I have an old Zippo from the 50's that I love, but...the fluid dries out in a few days and I'm not filling it up twice a week. I've wanted a good butane insert with soft flame for lighting tobacco pipes for years, but every one I've tried is straight garbage. Thunderbird, Z-flame, I've tried them all. They'll work for a couple of weeks, then the spark just won't catch any more. I was elated when Zippo finally made a butane insert that fit the classic shell- but they were jet flame, ok, fine...and they *also* quit working after a short time (both the single and double flame, tried both). Well, they finally made a soft flame butane insert that strikes with traditional flints. I've had it about a week and so far so good, I'll revisit my review in a couple of months and update if it's still working or not. So far, 5 starts and a healthy dose of optimism... ... show more

Had this for about a year now, part of my EDC setup. I don't use it every day (I don't smoke), but I use it a couple of times a week for shrink tubing, lighting candles, and other things. I also believe that everyone needs to carry a way to make fire with them whenever they leave the house, because you never know what is going to happen. It has held up well. Hasn't leaked the butane out yet, stays full. Easy to fill, and as long as it is in the Zippo shell, I can't imagine anything happening to it. ... show more

Zippo owners know if the typical inserts will evaporate the fluid after a week or so. These butane inserts will hold their fluid for a very long time. As a non-smoker I typically only need a lighter once in a while for everyday tasks. Since filling it up once I’ve already gone a few months without needing a refill. Operation is a little different than a normal insert as it does not stay lit after striking. You have to hold the button down similar to a BiC. Tired of paying $2-3 a whack for disposable lighters whose only reliable qualities are to disappear and fail at the worst time, I spent $7 on a brass Zippo case on eBay and a few bucks on butane. The yellow flame insert fits perfectly, and while I only started using it yesterday, it feels solid and uses the same flint ignition as a classic Zippo. And I get to use a Zippo. If you are considering this, you won’t be disappointed. If saving a few dollars is a factor for you, you might want to shop around online to compare prices. ... show more

So far it's working great. If you have problems with the flint wheel you can adjust it and put a new flint in. The only downside is you can't adjust the flame but mine seems to be perfect size. It actually seems to hold fluid for a while too.

This lighter insert is great it works fantastic. The only issue is that you cannot lower or raise the flame. It's pre set and it's about 2.5 to 3 inches long Which is a bit much for a lighter flame? I mean I used to love big flames when I was a kid but anymore it would be a 5 star if it could actually adjust the flame height. ... show more

This insert turns your zippo into basically a bic but better. It's refillable and fully recyclable, unlike a bic. Last I check, bics werent selling custom made lighter like zippo. Rock a Zippo
