I’ve tried all the inserts and this is the best one for a zippo. This really should just be how they make them. The default zippo kinda sucks. The butane inserts are good but finicky. This one works well. If your flame is too high you can exchange it with Zippo or use a security flathead to adjust it at the insert. Look it up. Other than that it’s the best. ... show more

    • Totally Cool & Solves the Drying Out Problem

I've used Zippos for years, and became adjusted to the fuel drying out pretty soon. The other big problem is carrying a liquid fuel lighter in your shirt or pants pocket. The fuel can leak out a little, getting on your clothes or making your skin itch. I looked at this insert versus the other with the piezo electric ignition. I've learned that over years, the piezo type of lighters break. You can push the "button," but it won't make a spark. This one uses a standard wheel and flint. Nothing to break! When the flint wears out, just replace it. Some people complain that the lighter doesn't go very long with the butane. Why would it? Even the liquid fuel lighters only go about a week before you either burn all the fuel or they dry out. This looks like it holds a fair amount of butane, and it's easy to fill. Be sure to always use something to empty out any remaining gas -- I use a cooking wooden skewer blunt end. If there's residual gas when you try to fill a butane lighter, that gas pushes back against the new fuel and prevents it from filling the container completely. The only thing I would wish for would be some sort of transparent or translucent viewing window or tube. It would be nice to know how much fuel is remaining. But all butane lighters will have a lower, smaller flame as they run out of gas, so it's not an insurmountable problem. This has a fine flame, no leaking, and I can carry it in my shirt pocket. Excellent! (And it slipped into a standard size Zippo with no problem at all.) ... show more

Whole thing feels amazingly high quality, fits perfectly in all the different eras of zippo shells i used it in. Feels natural and smooth just like the standard insert. Just wish it had a flame control valve for when you initially fill it, since the flame tends to be a bit high for a couple uses till everything equals out pressure wise. (it's normal in a non adjustable, but it's nice to be able to adjust gas pressure for flame especially upon full capacity/initial first usings). 0 Complaints with the product overall besides that minor little thing but that itself is no real issue, it's just a getting used to it sorta thing it's all. Still a 10/10 despite my 4/5 stars. No more leaky expensive lighter fluid but the same feel i can't complain ... show more

I bought these because I only spoke cannabis and I need a butane lighter that I do not have to dispose of. I discovered these and these are fine. They do what I need just right which is basically just too light mypipe and a joint. I recently replaced the flint . The lighter was difficult to roll to create a spark and replacing the Flint fixed it entirely. I am very happy that I do nothave to buy disposable lighters anymore. ... show more

Like most cigar smokers, I suppose, I use a torch lighter most of the time out of sheer convenience and wind-resistance (and where I live, in South Texas, wind is an almost ever-present feature). However, it’s very easy to scorch a cigar with such a hot flame, imparting a change to the taste. For that reason, I find a soft flame lighter to be preferable. Problem is, standard lighter fluid can also impart a bad taste. This little insert is the best of both worlds. It lights a cigar evenly and quickly, without charring, and with no taste of lighter fluid. I like the heft of a metal Zippo and it just feels and looks classy. However, like any soft flame, it’s useless in even a slight breeze. Because of that, I’ll light up indoors and then head out to the porch (since smoking is verboten in the house, per domestic management) or just bring it out on a calm day. I’ve only been using it for a few weeks,, so tough to assess long-term reliability, but I use good butane so I’m hopeful it’ll hold up. I’ll revise my rating accordingly if necessary. So far, it’s great. Update 4/26/25: Still works great. A top-off with butane lasts a good while, and my example doesn’t have a crazy-tall flame like some reviewers report. Bonus: unlike torch lighters, you can take this through TSA checkpoints at the airport the same as a standard Zippo. I’m very happy with it. ... show more
