  • Zippo: Quality never goes out of style.
Style: Armor Color: Armor High Polish Brass
So, I've had this Zippo Armored Brass lighter for about six or seven months now, and I carry it with me just about every day. From riding in my pocket and repeated handling the original high polished shiny brass finish has developed a fine tarnished patina which gives it a vintage appearance, and that is exactly how I like it. It really doesn't get used much, but I like having it in my pocket and packing it around and I do use it every Sunday night when I smoke my weekly cigar. Yeah, I know that true cigar aficionados would roll their eyes at the thought of lighting a fine cigar with anything other than a stick match, but I'm no cigar snob and the Zippo always gets the job done. Today I loaned it to the concrete worker guy that's helping me pour a parking pad and who is cutting me a helluva deal on the project. I guess you could call him a chain smoker, and the first thing this morning he asked me if I had a match. His eyes lit up when I handed him my Zippo and he began to reminisce about when he had a Zippo back when he was in the Army many years ago, and so on. He carried my lighter in his pocket for most of the day. He liked it. He's really treating me right on the cost of this concrete project, and seeing how much he liked my Zippo, and how often he used it to light up a smoke, I thought I'd get him one just like it. As an Amazon Prime buyer I reckon I'll have it for him when we dump the mud in the hole on Wednesday. ... show more

  • Different experience (responsibility) from disposable lighters. High-quality product.
Style: Armor Color: Armor Tumbled Brass
There's a slight learning curve to Zippo, if you've only ever used disposable lighters. The flame is larger (but strong against windy weather). You'll need to refill the fluid (I do weekly). You'll need to pull and trim the wick with needle-nose wire cutters (not very often). You'll need to take the whole thing apart to replace the wick and flint (once in a blue moon). Otherwise, it's well-crafted, classy-looking, fun-to-use, environmentally sound lighter, from a company with excellent customer service. ... show more

  • Why buy the High Polish Armor?
Style: Armor Color: Armor High Polish Brass
There is no reason to buy a high polish or armor high polish brass zippo. Why? Look at my pictures. The older high polished was purchased in mid Dec. 2018 The newer in late April 2019. Wear happens. You can see the difference. Then there is the feel. The Armor is more solid and heavier, but loose in construction compared to the standard. If you're looking for a brass Zippo, save $3 on the unpolished model. ... show more

  • Best Classic Lighter
Style: Armor Color: Armor Brushed Brass
I was looking for a cheap lighter that was better quality than dollar store lighters, and just looked generally sleek, and I certainly found it. Unsurprisingly, it comes from zippo, but I was definitely surprised at how much I love this lighter. I'm a non-smoker, but occasionally find myself needing a fire starter or having to burn the end of a rope, and this lighter does the trick. Pros: -Fits well in your pocket -Brass version apparently has tighter seals, meaning less evaporation -Looks sleek, and builds a patina nicely -Totally satisfying to play with Cons: -Lighter fluid does tend to evaporate, but I'd say it's less of a problem with this zippo than other lighters -Purchasing lighter fluid can be expensive (but there's a flint/wick/fluid bundle for $8 on amazon which is fantastic) ... show more

  • Solid Brass or Bust
Style: Classic Color: Brushed Brass with Solid Brass
I have owned many different styles of Zippo over the past 30 years and it has been my experience that the Solid Brass Zippo is Zippo's most reliable lighter. I don't know why being solid brass makes a difference, but the solid brass lighter doesn't feel as cheap as others in the Zippo line. When you roll the wheel to light it, the solid brass Zippo has a more tactile feel to it. I've had problems with other non-brass Zippos being less than 100% when it comes to lighting every time. Why is there a difference, I don't know, but for me, there just has been. For me, it's Solid Brass Zippo or bust. Unless someone can show me a non-solid brass one that can perform as well, this is the only lighter I will buy. ... show more

  • MADE IN USA but came with scruffs - read Updates
Style: Classic Color: High Polish Brass With Solid Brass
UPDATE 3: Less than a month owned and used it only 4 times. Have not dropped it nor scrapped it. Kept in pocket in a pouch with my cigar cutter. Case has some severe blemishes. Refer to photos. UPDATE 2: Lowered another star down to 3. Look at two pictures that show the lighter open. On one the insert is pressed down and on another its popped up. Over time the insert pushes upward. I believe this is due to the "click" switch catching on to the brass cover when opening and closing. The mark and indentations can be seen on the last photo. It digs into the cover and this causes friction to slightly pull it out of the case. This results in a rough closing of the cover when it should be smooth. UPDATE: Lowered a star. There are indentations where the insert clicks as well as on the body. Refer to picture. For the price and the brand, the Zippo lighter is a good deal. I bought it with the Zippo Butane insert. I have no plans on using the included insert but I had no choice but to buy it with the case. It was easy to remove the soft flame insert. Simply upwards and it comes out. The case itself came with several scruffs on it. I was a bit surprised since it is MADE IN USA and would have thought that the packaging of the item would have been done with the utmost care. For this reason, I gave it a 3/5 stars for gifting. If you want a nice and presentable gift, you may want to steer clear from this lighter. If looks aren't a factor, this is a good gift. It's cheap and a well known brand. The lighter is bound to get scratches if jangled in the pocket with keyes so if your recipient doesn't care then that's no problem. Since this item was for myself, I still gave the lighter 5 Stars. MADE IN USA was a big reason for my purchase and even with the minor issues, I'd still rather pay American. ... show more
