We recently purchased a Dream Cloud Premier Hybrid Mattress two weeks ago to replace the mattress we had had on our king size bed for the last 10 years. This new hybrid mattress we bought from the Dream Cloud web site is great, but at a height of 14 inches, it was 5 inches thicker than what we had. After it arrived we decided to keep and use the current double box spring we had been using, which were 9" thick, and metal bed frame with headboard that we already had. But we found with that 5 inches of increased height with our new hybrid mattredd that the top of the bed was now much higher then we liked. We love our new mattress, but with having our mattress 5 inches higher it was a little more effort to get on the bed and our feet didn't touch the floor when we sat on the edge of the bed. We were new to the hybrid mattress requirement of not needing a regular box spring, so we decided to see if we could go lower. I read all the reviews for platform bed frames designed for a hybrid mattress. Many of these reviews, the ones made out of wood, complained about their platform bed frame not holding up, with their wood slats cracking, breaking, and making noise, legs breaking off, etc. We surely didn't want any of that plus we wanted to keep out headboard at the same time. Those reviews helped us decide on trying this metal box spring by Zinus. We selected the 4" thick choice for our king size bed cause we wanted the bed top lower. Let me tell you, we are 100% satisfied with the way it is constructed, the ease of putting it together, and the way our new 14" hybrid mattress fits on it. Everything fit like a glove. It doesnt make a sound if we get up or toss and turn, and the mattress stays in place. Here are a few pictures we took as we put it together from start to finish. Before we put the new 4" metal box spring together, we removed those two 9" box springs we had to make room for the new metal one. It took us about 30-40 minutes to put the metal pieces together but it all went smooth. Everything fit nice and easy. The small rachet wrench that is included was a big help in tighting everything. And it only 16 screw bolts were required to fasten everything. Once finished, this new box spring fit right inside the original metal bed frame we had. The fabric cover went on next and fit over the top like a fitted bed sheet. Next we placed our new 14" mattress on top of everything and were very excited with our it fit the bed now. We actually had more mattress support when we laid on the bed. My husband and I were also now able to sit completely on each side of the bed with our feet on the floor. Having the top surface of the bed 5 inches lower on a metal frame strong enough also to support everything has made all the difference. We couldn't be more satisfied. If you have a king size hybrid mattress and want it lower to get on easier with plenty of support underneath this is the metal smart box spring to get. UPDATE: 7 days later. Both of use are enjoying our new mattress very much, thanks to the 4" metal box frame. No moverment what so ever, solid as a rock. The lower height we now have has made all the difference. One thing I wanted to add if you order the king size box, is the box is heavy. My husband had to use a 2-wheel dolly to move it from the front door, through the house and into the rear bedroom. But once the box is open, all the pieces are marked and easy to connect. 2nd UPDATE: Box spring frame is still doing good. Has been a month since we received this, and we'll still 100% satisfied with our purchase. The upper mattress does not move at all, and makes no noise getting on, moving about on it, or getting off of it. We like it enough that we're going to purchase a similar box spring like this for a twin bed that we have in another room sometime this year. ... show more

Ordered the 4" (full size) and 7.5" (queen) versions for use with Novaform mattresses. The boxes are long and heavy. Opened them on floor near entry and carried pieces to bedrooms. For the queen, most zip ties used in the packaging were broken but no damage to parts was discerned. Neither box exterior exhibited damage. There were two reasons for buying these despite cheaper alternatives: 1) closely spaced slats (~3") providing greater support for a foam mattress, and 2) longitudinal elements are one piece (which explains why the boxes are so long). Most other foundations appeared to require joining shorter pieces with brackets and screws. Weaker and potential failure points, but needed if the manufacturer wants to use shorter boxes (?). Assembly was easy and pictorial instructions are clear (one miss is the slats have a notch that should face downwards and that is not visible in the instructions). The ratchet tool is a BIG plus; kudos to the manufacturer for this usability improvement. Normal rules apply: install all screws finger tight, THEN alternatey tighten them working around the assembly. Others have complained they no longer use the complete zip on cover (now more of a fitted sheet thing) but that is a plus (air circulation and one less thing for my dog to chew on under the bed; others must spend a lot of time laying on the floor looking up under their bed?). There is a set of non-slip patches included for use on the bed frame but did not use them. Not clear how they would work given fabric of cover is between frame and foundation. Have not detected any noise/squeaks. I want to mention in one of the posted videos the assembly was done incorrectly (Honest Box Spring Review by Bryson and Julianne). They install Item D UNDER the top bar of center support Item C. They must have severely bent Item D in order to do so. Apparently no one vets these videos. ... show more

    • Easy to assemble

I bought the 4" box spring because I want a lower bed. The box spring was easy to put together, just remember to match up the numbers. I put one of the ends in upside down thinking it didn't matter, but it made the middle bar slope up where it wasn't supposed to. Easy enough to undo and fix. Thank goodness for the ratchet included with the hardware because there's no way I would've been able to tighten everything up with the Allen wrench. I tightened everything as much as I could with the Allen wrench, then went back over everything with the ratchet, and it made a big difference. The cross bars went in nice and snug. I gave them a couple of taps with a hammer to get them in because I tightened up the frame before putting in the cross bars. I will update this review if I have any issues with the box spring in the future. For reference, I'm 300 pounds so was looking for a sturdy box spring. ... show more

Furniture store sent big box springs that made the mattress sit way too high for the set. Ordered slim box spring, immediately broke. This is the exact product we needed. +1 star for sending this cool mini ratchet and not just an Alan key.
