i built a bed frame for this mattress inside a camper van and it is incredibly comfortable. instead of slats beneath the mattress, i used straps (old seatbelts), and it worked great. however, i was visiting a friend and thought i could use this mattress on their floor, but it was not nearly as comfortable. therefore, i would not recommend this mattress for use on a hard/flat surface. it's just not thick enough. it needs some spring or flexibility beneath it, especially if you're a side-sleeper like me. however, for the bed i built, i could not be happier. it's perfect. would purchase again. ymmv ... show more

I bought this to be able to easily lift and place in storage compared to the heavier 10". This will do for a floor pallet or on top of a metal frame. Not that soft, doesn't really give under body weight, so may need a gel topper for a softer feel.

    • This mattress contains fiberglass!

I bought this mattress because it was advertised as fiberglass free. I'm highly allergic to fiberglass. I purchased this mattress to use in a campervan conversion. I knew I would need to cut the mattress to fit the van bed, but since this mattress was advertised as fiberglass free, I was not concerned. But just to be extra cautious, I cut the mattress outside in case there were any floating particles. I put all the original mattress covers back on the mattress. I installed it in the van on the newly built bed to air out. I thought all was well until I went out to place sheets on it 2 days later. This involved lifting the mattress and tussling with it a bit to get the sheets on. I immediately started feeling itchiness and burning which became progressively worse. I showered and scrubbed my skin 3 times before going to bed that night, but still woke in the middle of the night with intense burning/itching. I showered for the fourth and final time, but still felt periodic stinging at work the next day. I'm now struggling to figure out how to get rid of not only this mattress, but the newly built bed - I'm sure the fiberglass has now permeated the wood. I don't understand how it can be legal to advertise a mattress as fiberglass free when it so obviously has fiberglass. I know the mattress was never meant to be unzipped or cut, but I only felt comfortable doing it because the mattress was advertised as fiberglass free. Also, even if the mattress wasn't cut, there is no way to ensure it would not get punctured or accidently ripped by a child (or adult) and release fiberglass. I'm a pediatric nurse, and I can only imagine the number of parents who purchase this mattress for their children and have no idea they are sleeping on a mattress that contains fiberglass. ... show more
