  • Just got today (8 month update added)
Edit: 8 months later. Husband and I are both side sleeps with a little back thrown in. Mattress is still doing very well. We rotate it every month . we recently had a water pipe bust right under it and I was worried about possible mold due to other comments but it didn't. It sleeps better when it's warmer (harder when its cold) we added a 4 inch mattress topper and its helped a bit. My back feels better than it did with the old mattress. For 200 bucks its absolutely worth it. Even with my 250lb 6"7 husband and after 8 months of sleeping on it every night there's no indentation which is really cool. If I can't afford a 1000$ mattress after this wears out then i'll definitely get another just like this. Also we added a piece of plywood between the box spring (from older bed) and the Zinus mattress. I think it helps keep it flat (they have bases for that though but we are cutting corners here atm) Run through: Mattress brand: Zinus memory foam green tea. Size: Queen 10 inch. Main mattress I sleep on nightly? Yes. How many people: 2 Peoples size: 4"11 @140+ lbs & 6"7 @250+lbs Top complaints on negative reviews and my comparisons... - Top complaint ..didn't fully expand to size: My review... I've only had it a couple hours so far and it's 9.5 out of 10 inches at its highest and 8 inches out of 10 inches at its lowest. - Bad smell/ chemical smell , bad mildew smell. I smelled it immediately and didn't get a single whiff of anything good or bad. So no smell at all. - Black mold on mattress : Nothing yet but I'll be getting a protector for it asap. (I'll update my reviews in a month+ and year+) Just received the Zinus green tea 10 inch queen mattress today. I got the 10 inch because we can't afford the 12 though with a 6"7 250lbs husband I needed the 12 inch but I can get a topper later . I have to say I was very very nervous about getting this mattress. Money is a huge issue atm but I HAD to do something. Our older mattress is awful. After 2 months of saving and reading multiple reviews from multiple sites ( sleeplikethedead.com sold me on this particular mattress actually) I went for it even though some of the reviews on Amazon had me worried with the bad smells and mildew and mold and not rising past 7 inches so on and so on. Within 20 min of opening it had expanded to 9 inches in most the areas. It sounded starved for air lol sucking it in. Now 2 hours later it's 9.5 inches at its highest and 8 inches at its lowest. Also, we laid ours on top of our box spring with plywood underneath the new mattress as many have suggested to do. There's no smell at all (unless I got the Rona again! Ha!) I laid on it for a good 20 min to test and my hips and ribs (that usually hurt by that point on my other mattress) didn't hurt at all..school just started here and with covid 19 I'm stressed as hell so bad mattress + stress of that I'm a bit tired..I almost fell asleep and that's rare for me. It takes me a long time to get comfortable and fall asleep...It really is very comfortable.( I'm 4"11 and 140+ lbs) So . so far so good. I'll update my thoughts and my 6"7 husband's thoughts as well a couple times during the next month or so and again after a year or so. I know mattress buying isn't cheap and reviews well they suck anymore..hard to know what to believe and so few even mention what they bought and what size ppl are sleeping on it. **Update at a month**.. Every year My back aches when the weather changes. This year was no exception but it's been far far less painful than it was these past few years with old mattress . We will rotate it this week and I'm still deciding if I want a plush topper. At first I KNEW I did but now that it's broke in I can't decide. It feels fine though still a little hard for my taste . I'll probably get topper. Just for my side sleeping style . shoulders and hips do better with a layer of fluff. I'm so happy I chose this mattress and that we didn't get a bad one which happens apparently. Still no smell what so ever and no mold and I'd notice. I'm very sensitive to smells. ... show more

  • Very pleased with initial quality, thorough review
**See bottom for 1 year update Initial quality review (I will post another follow up after using the mattress for 6 months or so) - We began looking for a new queen sized mattress after our 2.5 year old coil spring pillow top mattress began to sag despite turning the mattress every two weeks. The pillow top was a budget mattress, probably around $500 at the local furniture store, box spring included. I have gone the coil spring route in the past, spending over $1200 on my first pillow top mattress. Every single time, the coil spring mattresses seemed to sag after no more than 3 years, often times showing signs of sagging within the first year. Unless there is a substantial sag (usually around 3" IIRC), their warranties don't cover replacement. So, you're stuck with a bed that sucks you into a hole even though it's well within the manufacturer's warranty sag-allowance. (Sleeping 2 adults, around 180-200 lbs each) I had purchased one of the original TempurPedic mattresses years ago and liked it very much except I got WAY too hot sleeping in it. That bed was "lost in the fire" (divorce). I saw an ad for the Cocoon mattress in a box made by Sealy for I think around $500. I was super interested and decided to read many, many reviews and research all of the comparable mattresses on Amazon. I can't stress enough how many reviews we read before deciding on the Zinus, so needless to say we made our decision to purchase this unit largely upon that research. Unboxing - the mattress arrived on time, on a very cold and snowy day, probably about 20F. I was a bit concerned about ordering during winter fearing it may somehow impact the decompression of the mattress. The box had a few dings in it that revealed the bag inside, but there was no damage to the product as it is packed in a very sturdy vinyl-type exterior bag. I immediately dragged the heavy box down the hall and into a room I had heated to around 75F to acclimate the mattress to room temperature while I read the printed instructions. I think that may have been overthinking the whole logistics of the decompression, as the manual suggested it should be unwrapped as soon as possible after receiving it. Per the instructions, I removed both the vinyl bag and unrolled the mattress zipper facing down and cut the bag off. The mattress began to expand, and within a couple of hours appeared to be nearly fully decompressed, with the exception of maybe a couple of corners. There was very little odor, and it is almost not worth mentioning unless you've never used a foam topper or mattress before. Not bad at all, and was gone within a few hours. I waited until the next night, put the mattress on our existing box spring (I did add 2 1/8in 4x8 backer board to the top of the box spring because the cross members were pretty far apart) and had a great night's sleep. These mattresses are firm, as many "memory foam" mattresses are designed to be. They contour to your body but provide really solid support. If you're expecting to get a floaty cloudlike feeling from a memory foam mattress, you're really better off with a coil spring with a memory foam topper. In either case, fluffy mattresses tend to sag after a short while and they're just not my thing. After a week of sleeping on the mattress, we are very happy with it. It is firm but comfy, doesn't transfer motion and seems to be well made. It does run a little warmer than a coil spring, but I'm always hot and this mattress doesn't cause me to sweat. The printed materials that came with the mattress are of good quality, and written in real english. For a Chinese made mattress at around $250, this was more than a bargain. Don't hesitate to buy this mattress. I will update again in 6 months or so. **1 year update - This mattress still looks and feels brand new. Every time we rotate the mattress when we change the sheets I can't believe how perfectly flat it is. Best mattress I've owned. ... show more

  • Value is unbeatable!
I ordered this mattress in a box with very low expectations. We just moved my 2 year old to his “big boy bed” which happens to be a queen bed in our guest room. It needed a new mattress. Since he’s 2 and pees on stuff I didn’t want to spend a lot on a mattress. Also he’s used to sleeping on the slabs of rock they now sell for crib mattresses—that’s all he’s ever known. So I figured I had nothing to lose giving this mattress a shot. It came in a big box, unrolled just fine, fluffed to full size on its own quickly, off-gassed for a day (honestly smell wasn’t bad), and then it was good to go. My son sleeps great on this mattress. I am also here to review it because lets be honest, I probably spend about 40% of my night sleeping on this thing. You know, I fall asleep putting him to bed, he wakes up thirsty, nightmares...etc etc. I am well acquainted with this mattress. And I’m embarrassed to admit it, but I like this mattress just as much (maybe more...maybe...) than the big spenda brand name king size “hybrid” mattress on my own bed. I can’t even believe a $200 mattress Is in the same league as an $1800 one, but I digress. This is a FIRM mattress but it is a comfortable firm. Your body kinda molds into it. I am not a person who even likes firm mattresses but this one is somehow very soft and cradling while also being firm and supportive. No back pain when I sleep on this. The only negative I have seen so far is that it runs slightly hot. That’s just a downside of memory foam. It’s July, so that factor is probably at its worst. I’m sure it won’t be an issue in winter. Overall I think this mattress is a steal for the price. It’s perfect for a child or teen, guest room, dorm room...etc. ... show more

  • Great! Love it! Hot though, and YMMV on the comfort level
I waited one full year to review this mattress so I could give a reasonable and realistic review. I purchased the Zinus memory foam 10 inch green tea mattress March 26, 2016. Pros: -Softness and "squish" is perfect for me. I was very worried it would be rock hard like another amazon mattress I got and HATE and had to buy a stupid expensive mattress topper for it to even use it, but I was worried unnecessarily. It's quite soft and perfectly comfortable but not so soft your back is miserable in the morning. It's just right! -I love that you nestle in and it warms up very quickly to be just the right temperature in the winter!. -In one year of nightly use, by one-two people it's exactly the same as it was. The edges are firm and don't make you fall off if you're sitting on it, there is no dip or depression on either side of the bed. -I originally bought this for a small child but after a slight slip and unfortunate landing on the stairs in July of 2016, resulting in an obnoxious and persistent shoulder injury, I've been using it. It doesn't put pressure on my torn rotator cuff but it's very supportive, and I can sleep with no discomfort! Cons: -Of my family of four, I'm the only one that loves it. My 7 year old thinks it's "meh" on comfort, and complains loudly about how hot it is. My 16 year old likes but doesn't love it. My husband detests it and can't hardly even lay on it to read the 7 year old a story. Perhaps mattress comfort is as individual as people are. Who knew? -This thing gets hellishly hot instantly in the summertime. I honestly don't think I can get my 7 year old through another summer on it. I'm not really sure what the solution is though. I'm totally open for suggestions on this. I'm less than eager to buy a $200 cool mattress topper for a $200 mattress, though, so...there you go... For reference I'm 5'4" and 115-120 pounds, but my 250 pound mother and her 250 pound partner slept on it together for 10 days and they loved it too, so I'm not sure you need to be slender or larger for comfort on this one. Overall, I'm delighted with this cheap and functional mattress and it exceeded my expectations. I never observed any odor at all, from day one to now. ... show more

  • Amazing comfort, quick delivery easiest buying option!
My new mattress in a box has arrived! I chose to have it packed in the small box which is actually about 3 " long and about 1" across. It's packed in so tight that it's hilarious and heavy! But once we opened the plastic and let it inflate, it was all of the size of a regular mattress. The firmness is a bit too hard for my hips and shoulders and spine, so I put a soft mattress topper on top and I am sleeping like a baby...not the fussy, crying baby! The sound asleep don't move until morning, wake up with a big smile baby! The edges are firm so it doesn't squish down when you sit on the side of the bed. Remember when you get your, DO NOT USE A KNIFE to open the plastic so you don't cut through to the mattress. The way that it's wrapped is double plastic so it comes off easily as you roll out the mattress. I suggest putting it on your base or box spring BEFORE you take off the plastic so that you don't have to move the mattress itself and it will already be in the place you want it when it fluffs up. One thing I love is that it's very stable. My cat can jump on the bed and it doesn't even shake or move the bed at all. I highly recommend getting this mattress, for the comfort, the way that Amazon can deliver it to you so quickly and for the Amazon return if it doesn't work for you. I checked furniture stores to make a comparison first, and most local-ish stores could not get me a mattress delivered within 2 weeks! I had changed out my old king sized bed for a smaller easier to manage full size and needed this right away. Amazon and their employees are amazing, I had it within a couple days. Thank you. ... show more

  • Comfortable, supporting, not too hot or cold
After 30 years, I replaced my very old-school waterbed. Still worked great, had no problems with it after all these years. It was heated so it was pleasantly warm on cold winter nights and it totally conformed to my body. My problem was that my body changed over those 30 years and now it needs different support than I did as young college student. Darn that aging! LOL. The last few months, I'd wake up in the morning, sometimes during the night, with different aches and pains. I had to accept that it was time for a new bed. After plenty of research, and the 20,000 review on Amazon, I decided that this Zinus was the one to try. It arrived quickly, I followed the directions to carefully cut open the plastic wrapping, got it situated on the bed frame, and let it expand untouched for a day longer then the directions called for (I probably have to, but "just in case"). Overall, I'd day it's medium-firm. The top layer is just soft enough to sink into and be comfortable, with the middle and bottom layers providing plenty of support so it doesn't feel like sinking. Edge support is good and I never feel like I'm going to roll off. I have plenty of body support , in all the right places, that I sleep very well and soundly, and no longer wake up to any aches or pains. The bed is a little warm right where I am, but not more so than any other bed, like those in a hotel. It's not any cooler when I first get in, either. Temperature-wise, it was fine in the warm summer nights, and still comfortable as the nighttime temps reach into the low 50s. In the end, this was the right choice for me - great overall body support, good temperature, good edge support while sleeping and when getting out of bed. UPDATE: A year later I also bought the king sized mattress, which I'd only rate 4 stars. While it's still fairly comfortable, it didn't puff up to the full 10 inches like the queen size mattress did. There's a middle strip which seems to be 10 inches thick, but both sides are not so it feels like sleeping on an incline at first, until the foam adjusts to my body. I still sleep well every night, it's still warm enough / cool enough, but it wasn't perfect like the previous mattress. This time is was just OK, and acceptable enough that I didn't return it. ... show more

  • 3 years later and fiberglass is everywhere.
UPDATE: So I bought this bed about may 2017. Everything was fine but the past year I've noticed my skin getting irritated/itchy far more often and a lot of what I thought were allergy problems. I've always taken good care of my skin and for the longest time I thought maybe it was the water quality where I live. Well, tonight I just happened to notice an insane amount of thin shining slivers all over my wall and my mattress. I actually thought maybe a bunch of baby spiders were running rampant so I Googled it and found out about Zinus and their fiberglass issue. I NEVER ONCE REMOVED THE MATTRESS COVER AND I'M USING A ZINUS BRAND BED STAND. My clothes are covered in fiberglass shards and so is my room. The mattress cover that you aren't supposed to remove is apparently so thin that after owning this mattress for only 3 years it has poured through and caused a massive mess for me to deal with. The fiberglass has managed to get into a bunch of my clothes causing my skin to break out. For the past year I've been so stressed trying different laundry detergents, shampoos, lotions, bug sprays because for a while I thought I might be getting bit... But no... It was all this stupid mattress and the fiberglass piercing through the mattress cover and through my bed sheets. I am talking like the ENTIRE SURFACE OF THE MATTRESS COVER has been pierced by the fiberglass. I'm 30 years old I just use my bed to sleep on. I'm not using it as a trampoline. I am seriously so upset that I spent so long stressing out over what's going on with my body just to find out it was the mattress being horrible quality and spreading fiberglass everywhere. A lot of reviews comment about how they took their mattress cover off to wash it or something. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH THAT AFTER ENOUGH TIME IT WON'T MATTER IF YOUVE TAKEN IT OFF OR NOT. The fiberglass WILL break through and cause you a living hell. I am going to be trying to use the warranty I have in the next few days but after reading warranty horror stories I'm not all that convinced it will do anything. DO NOT BUY THIS MATTRESS. It was very affordable and before realizing what was going on I always said it was the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on. Well not anymore. Just another thing to stress out about. What a nightmare. Avoid it. 2017: This was so cheap and good I love my bed I want to marry it Looking at my dumb silly initial review makes me cringe. What a sham. I wish I knew what I was in for. ... show more

  • Love it
I've been sleeping on a full for the last 3 yrs and wanted to go back to a queen, but I have a spiral staircase at my apt so a bed in a box seemed the best choice. I also didn't want to spend a lot in case I have to get it over the balcony when I move in 6 months and was concerned about damaging it in the process. This bed was affordable, delivered quickly, easy to get upstairs (with 2 people) and lofted almost immediately. There was no odor and we slept on it that night after just 4 hours of opening it up. I had to leave the next day for 8 days and when I got home it had lofted completely. Next to my 20 yr old Serta that was amazing for all that time, this is the 2nd most comfortable bed I've owned. When you sit on it, it doesn't feel very soft but when you lay down, it feels great. I prefer a softer bed and this works perfectly for me, sort of a middle ground feel. Admittedly it does get warm, especially when the temps rise and I have woken up in a sweat a couple of times but now that the temps are dropping it's perfect temperature. I'll deal with the hotter temps again next year with a cooling mattress cover if I need to (and if it survives going over the balcony to take it downstairs). I've been sleeping better and no body aches whatsoever. I love it and would buy it again. ... show more
