I bought this mattress after staying in an AirBNB that had the same one. In the rental, it was super comfortable and just the right mix of firm and soft with a thin waterproof mattress cover on top, but when I got it at home and used the same mattress topper the bed is much firmer. I "broke it in" as best I could by walking on it and have slept on it for over a month, but the firmness stays just as it did when I got it. I'm going to keep it because its too much of a pain to return, but I'll need to add a mattress pad to give relief to my hips when I sleep on my side. Positives: the movement of your sleeping partner isn't felt at all, there was no odd smell, it expanded to the size I expected, I was able to get it up the stairs and unrolled by myself with some creative moves (I'm 50, female and have average level of strength). ... show more

I got sick and tired of buying dog beds, struggling to wash them, having to replace them all the time. I finally just got an actual mattress. Covered this in a fully enclosed mattress protector. A labrador, golden retriever, and two spaniel mixes fit on it perfectly with plenty of space. All I have to do is change the sheets and I never have to deal with another stupid dog bed again. This whole set up was about the cost of one dog bed half its size and those dog beds for $150 only last a few months before getting holes or the foam smells like dog. As far as firmness goes it seems to be on the softer side of medium on each side, almost a soft, then the middle is more like a medium.
