  • A Good Bed Makes a Good Difference
Size: King Style: 12 Inch Pattern Name: Quilted Comfort
I don’t typically write reviews for things I like, or don’t like. If I take the time to write down my opinion it’s generally to complain about truly being disappointed or on rare occasions, like this one, truly amazed. Having my expectations exceeded is a rarity, one in which I’m willing to put my time and words to paper - or screen. This, this is one of those exceptional experiences- and I can’t believe it’s over a mattress of all things. Buying a mattress shouldn’t be hard, but it is. It’s made harder by today’s advertising and BS. We no longer know what the best way is to buy the thing we’ve bought our whole life. Are we being ripped off? The answer is of course yes; but how do we solve that? The answer in this case is Zinus. Perhaps embarrassingly, I put more research into my latest mattress purchase than I did my last car. Maybe because it’s such a personal purchase and one you live with for such a long period of time. What you sleep on, and how you sleep, matters. A decade ago I bought my last mattress. It was a good mattress. It was very expensive. It served me well… for a few years. I extended it’s life far past it’s usefulness by adding memory foam and padding and then again by telling myself it was sufficient, for years. After at least a year of restless nights which I attributed to other causes I finally admitted to myself I needed a new bed. What a pain, literally. This began my research into what to buy and from where. If you’re looking at a Zinus then you’ve undoubtedly looked at the other major players in this category. They’ve sprung up all in the last couple of years because of one major reason - mattress sales are a scam. Unfortunately, so are online mattress sales for the most part. After a lot of research which you can do in your own time using Google, nearly all these ‘online mattress companies’ are actually made in the same factory using nearly identical material. They all add in their own exclusive features but they are mostly the same. The major difference being the name on the box it’s shipped in. Zinus is considerably cheaper than the rest. It is nearly identical to the rest. It’s cheaper because they lower their markup. It really is that simple. The big players in this game pretend to offer a great deal but then markup their mattress by 300% or more. Ask yourself why they can afford to let you sleep on it for 3 months, then pay someone to come to your house and take it to the landfill if you don’t want to keep it. They would literally rather pay someone to throw it away than to take it back. That’s how inexpensive it is for them to make them. The markup is so much that their product becomes disposable. This doesn’t mean they are bad mattresses. In fact, all those name brand online retailers sell great mattresses, nearly identical to the Zinus. They are just incredibly overpriced. Now my review - my mattress rant is over. I hope some find it useful. I bought the ‘Zinus Memory Foam 12 Inch / Premium / Ultra Plush / Cloud-like Mattress, King’. With it I also bought the platform bed from Zinus - also because of the incredible price and which I’ll also review. (spoiler, it’s fantastic) The mattress comes compressed in a box of course. That’s how it works. Unlike some other manufacturers it fully uncompresses and is ready for sleep on day 1. There is no chemical smell because it’s not treated with the same nasty chemicals that some other manufacturers put on theirs. I’ve read a lot of ‘explanations’ from the other makers as to why they fill theirs with chemicals, none of which are convincing. My guess, is so that they can sit in warehouses for years and not get moldy. This is without a doubt the most comfortable mattress I’ve ever slept on. If it’s comfortable to you will of course depend on what your definition of comfort is. Zinus makes several different mattresses in varying degrees of firmness. I just happened to luck out buying the right one for me the first time, I think. This one is firm, but giving. It’s the kind of mattress where I can roll around on one side and it doesn’t effect my partner on the other side. You don’t feel movement unless it’s right up against you. At the same time it gives slightly, making it very conforming to your body. One of the most important things to me as a person who is generally hot all the time is that it stay cool, and this does. I didn’t realize it until I got this mattress but I believe one of my issues for such a long time, was being hot. I get no heat from this mattress at all. As an example of just how comfortable this mattress is, having not slept in it yet, I also purchased a very expensive and beautiful down mattress topper along with very beautiful, thick, luxurious sheet set. Ultimately I ended up sending all that back because honestly sleeping on the mattress itself with no other bedding under me save a thin fitted sheet is unbelievably comfortable. You’ll want as little as possible between you and the mattress. I’m not sure what I can say that would be more complimentary than that. I’ve had the mattress for a few months now and it really has been life changing. Not in a ‘save the world’ kind of way - but it has saved my sleep. I sleep well, and for the first time in years. A good bed makes a good difference. I’ve been a tad evangelical about this review only because it’s made such a positive improvement in my life- and for far less money than the alternatives. A few tips: Put your mattress on a VERY firm surface. This isn’t your old traditional mattress, you do not want it on a bed springs. If you can’t buy a platform bed now, put it on the floor. Do not add a bed topper even though your experience with your old mattress may incline you otherwise. Sleep as close to the mattress as you can. No topper, thin sheets. If you don’t believe you can buy a great mattress for hundreds less, buy the more expensive ones first (I did). There is no risk in comparison. Those other brands let you send it back within 90 days at no cost. Buy it, send it back, then buy the Zinus and compare. You can also easily send this back. I’d be absolutely shocked if anyone says they went with the more expensive brand after a comparison. I’m glad you spent the time to read this review. Now, do your research, compare, and buy this mattress. ... show more

  • Very nice, but it has gotten much softer over time. Now 2 years later it is wonderful. If we ever need a new one, this will be it
Size: King Style: 12 Inch Pattern Name: Quilted Comfort
I received my Zinus Memory Foam 12 Inch Premium Ultra Plush Cloud-like Mattress, King on May 26th. Opened it immediately on the living room floor. It started to rise right away, and within a few hours was up to 10 inches high. I layed down on it and it was super, very comfy. Very plush. The next day I struggled to get it into the bedroom, was a mistake to open it up on the floor. Besides that I had to take out the $3000.00 Tempur-pedic lumpy mattress which was very heavy too. After getting it on the bed platform, I continued to let it rise throughout the day and evening. By bedtime it was up to almost 11 inches high. But as it got higher it definitely got firmer. I bought the Premium Ultra Plush Cloud-like for the reason that I did want a soft mattress. Was very firm. Have been using it for 3 weeks and it has gotten somewhat better. Hopefully within 6 months or so it will be great as it wears in some. I have had 2 Select Comfort mattress’, first was very nice, but the bed needed to be pumped up every now n then, and the pump wore out after a few years. I replaced it with another Select Comfort bed with memory foam built into it. We never got comfortable. After a few struggling years we bought a Dormier memory foam mattress for over 2 grand. Was very comfortable for 3 or 4 years and then started to get lumpy. Company had gone out of business, so we couldn’t get any use of the 25 year warranty. Bought a Tempur-Pedic for 3 grand and after 6 years it had gotten so lumpy we couldn’t sleep on it. Again a 25 year warranty, and that was useless. They wanted pictures of the mattress showing areas that were sunken, well the only way that they showed was when you were laying on it, so they would not honor that warranty. That's when I started to search online for a memory foam mattress, since I had over the years spent over 10,000 dollars and still had no comfort. We decided to buy this for only 360 bucks. Even though it is stiff, it is still comfortable, after 5 or so minutes with it warming to your body, it lets you sink a little into it and we do have a very nice restful sleep. I would recommend it as long as you’d like a firm mattress, and it does warm up very nice, we like that as we have the AC on during the long summer months set at 72. I will do a follow-up review in about 6 months. Well now after sleeping on it for over 4 months, it has gotten a lot softer. Was liking it, but now love it. I would recommend it as long as you can give it a long try to get it soft. Hopefully it doesn't get too soft. ... show more

  • Better than a pillow top
Size: Full Style: 12 Inch Pattern Name: Quilted Comfort
Update: I already own this mattress but love it so much I bought one for the ‘guest’ room at my parents... mainly because I stay with my parents when I’m in town for work and sleep in my childhood bedroom where my parents put their older queen sized mattress that would literally leave my back in the worst pain, was sinking in the middle and just uncomfortable. Maybe I’m more concerned with myself and my comfort, regardless, I bought the 10” queen version of this mattress for Christmas (for my parents but more for me when I’m here) to replace the current... which is where I’m laying and typing this updated review. I’m going to sleep so good tonight. Also, I’m not that selfish... I bought my parents nice things aside from this mattress lol ——————— I bought the 12” full — I don’t know what it’s like to sleep on a cloud but if I could imagine sleeping on its heavenly goodness, this bed is it. It is SO comfortable and I actually sleep solid through the night and I don’t even feel my dogs walking on it as they like to move around during the night and it used to wake me. That top layer is just squishy goodness but underneath lies all the support. Prior to this bed I had a pillow top Serta perfect sleeper, it was a great bed and served its purpose but this bed is better because you don’t have to deal with coil springs. Some people have mentioned an odor... which I did not encounter the first day but after about 2 days I did notice it, however, I figured out what it’s from. The mattress itself is foam and needs time to air out and rise like a loaf of bread because it is delivered compressed. I had my mattress on the floor which doesn’t allow for maximum air flow or the air to flow through/escape as needed... so when I lay on the bed, essentially my body weight is forcing the air back down through the mattress and trapping it not allowing for things to air out or escape anywhere. My advice would be to order base/platform when you order the mattress or before so you can roll your mattress out on it and allow the air to escape as needed to really air out. Unfortunately I ordered mine after (Zinus 18inch smart frame) but UPS delivered it to the wrong address, so I missed out and have been waiting a week for the whole turn around process of getting another. It’ll all work out. This bed is worth it, like I said... make sure it’s on an elevated base to allow ample airflow. I’m hoping the smell will go away once I get it on the platform. ... show more

  • Comfortable Mattress at a Great Price
Size: King Style: 12 Inch Pattern Name: Quilted Comfort
******************* UPDATE 6/20/2020: It's been a little over 2 years with this mattress. I still love it. (The dogs do too!!) It did take a few weeks after I bought it to get used to the memory foam. There was an adjustment period where I thought I had made a mistake buying it. Since then, I have recommended it to a few friends and am going to buy another one for the spare bedroom. Overall, I'm glad I didn't spend 2-3 times the price on a mattress from the mattress store. ******************** UPDATE 6/23/19: I've had this mattress for over a year now and I'm upgrading my review to 4 stars from 3 stars. It took me a while to get used to memory foam. Now that I am used to it, I LOVE IT!! My back no longer hurts. This mattress gives great support and is plush. I use it with my adjustable base. Between the mattress and the bed, I can sleep on my back and I wake up rested. It is still not the full 12 inches but, being small, I can live with it. Memory foam is hot. I do get night sweats and hot flashes and I live in Arizona. I ended up getting the Leggett & Platt Sleep Chill + Crystal Gel Mattress Protector with Cooling Fibers. That has helped a lot. Overall, I am pleased with this mattress. When I need a mattress for my spare bedroom, I will probably get another one of these. ******************** I needed to replace my Sealy Posturpedic pillowtop after 11 years. I was waking up aching all over. The mattress I was considering was $1800, with the adjustable base it would've been almost 5k. I did not want to spend that kind of money. I read the reviews online and decided to give this one a shot. I figured with 5000 reviews and a 4 star rating it was worth a shot. I bought this mattress in a king size on amazon along with The Classic Brands Adjustable bed. I've had the mattress and bed set up for over a month. They are better than my previous mattress and box spring. I'm not waking up in total pain. This is my first memory foam mattress. I'm getting used to that. I find the mattress comfortable when sleeping on my side or stomach. It's not as plush or comfortable when I sleep on my back but the adjustable base helps with that. Part of the reason could be that I weigh less than 120 pounds. Again, adjusting the base helps. If I had to sleep on a regular base or box spring, it would be uncomfortable on my back. Stomach and side sleeping would still be ok. I have found with memory foam there is outgassing, which is normal. This mattress has a slight odor but after a few days, it was gone. I had fans and an air purifier running so that may have helped. I bought a memory foam pillow which, after a month still had an odor and gave me a migraine. With this mattress, odor and a migraine was not an issue. The reason I'm deducting stars is because the mattress only reached 10 inches instead of the 12 inches and it's uneven on the corners and edges. It is the most comfortable in the middle and not on the edges. I can live with that since it's only me and the dogs. If the mattress was going to be used by a couple instead of a single person, that may be an issue. We'll see how long this will last. It is not as comfortable as the Serra iComfort I was considering but it was only $400 compared to $1800. Since I am unemployed and watching my budget, I can live with it. In the future, I'll upgrade to a little better memory foam mattress. If I get a year or 2 out of it, I'll be ok with that. ... show more

  • Trust the reviews! Astounding mattress!
Size: Queen Style: 12 Inch Pattern Name: Quilted Comfort
I just received this after months of deliberating. I will updated in a few months for progress. But for now.... these are my thoughts. You don't know willpower until... you force yourself up off the cloud, no the warm hug that soothes your whole body, that is your brand new memory foam mattress (Oh Yes I am talking about this puppy, the Zinus Memory foam 12 inch mattress) at the end of the day after.... - lugging that behemoth (all 80ish pounds of it) across the house, up the stairs, back across the 2nd floor, out of the box and then into place by yourself the night before. But also the same day you've been babywearing while chasing the other two toddlers, - after three days of the best sort of exhaustion from playing outside all day with the toddlers - and at least a year too of long sleeping on a crater that once was a top of the line interspring mattress. All to be productive before avoiding humanity for the next two days. Because you intend to sleep like the dead. All joking aside, this is absolutely the best purchase from Amazon ever! I was so worried I had spent 260 on a dud. But, it inflated immediately, and was fully fluffed by the next mornin. I fillowed the recomendations a x continued to let it rise the next day for a full 24hrs. It does not stink at all, I am very sensitive to smells and fragrances. I also sleep on my stomach. When I jumped on to test it in those first 24 hours, I inhaled deeply and there was the faintest whiff of a sort of sweetness. But barely. For those of you who care about unhealthy chemicals emmissions, this brand passes the ChemiPur test/certification! That was a big deciding factor for me. It also came an entire day early which means I get an entire weekend of restorative sleep before heading back into my demanding job on Monday. I never stop moving, lifting, chasing or climbing throughout my day and barely have time to sit. (Nanny to four under 3) So, if you have an active and physically demanding job this is the mattress for you. Seriously, as soon as you lay down your entire body relaxes immediately! Didn't really think that was possible. It is incredibly soft and luxurious!! But it is so supportive and firm. You sink in like your being hugged just enough that your entire body sighes, but you are completely supported the entire time. In every position. Like being cradled by your bed. It's amazing. I am honestly wondering if I'll sleep right through my alarm. ;-) I have my mattress on a solid metal and slated wood frame. But I plan to upgrade to the Zinus Diamond pattern bed frame cause it's stylish and I want it to complete the look in my room. It's really not as heavy or hard to maneuver as you might have been lead to believe. I'm a small human, a whole 5 feet *and* one whole inch tall. I'm also a woman, who is active but I'm not hitting any weights for leg day. Still, I was able to get it up a full flight of stairs and crisscross my house with it alone to get it set up. ... show more

  • Very hard, not at all cloud like, disappointed /:
Size: Queen Style: 12 Inch Pattern Name: Quilted Comfort
UPDATED REVIEW I HATE this mattress. I don’t know if I just got a lemon but I’ll never be ordering another one to find out. I’ve tried it for over 6 weeks hoping it just needed to break in and it is still a slab. I think it’s even gotten harder since my first few nights sleeping on it. I would compare it to wet sand, sure it conforms a little from your body weight, buts it’s still very hard and uncomfortable. I wouldn’t even call this firm, it’s just straight up hard. My entire body hurts from trying to give this thing the benefit of the doubt, and I’m only 22!!! If you like extra firm mattresses or if you are heavier than the average person, this mattress might just be okay enough for you. As for someone that likes true PLUSH mattresses and likes to sink into them instead of laying on top of them, this isn’t for you. I’m so mad this thing was listed as extra plush. My carpet is more comfortable. Thank god for amazon’s excellent customer service. OLD REVIEW I had such high hopes for this mattress. I even had a full blown review written in my notes that I’ve been updating as the days go by, it started out super hyping this thing up but now not so much. The bottom line is, to me at least, I’ve had it for 8 days, have been trying to sleep on it for 5 nights, and this mattress just absolutely sucks. It is not plush at all like the specs say, and it’s certainly not cloud like as in the description. This thing isn’t just firm, it’s rock hard. It is easily the hardest mattress I’ve ever tried to sleep on. Both my boyfriend and I toss and turn all night from sore shoulders and backs. For reference, we’re both 5’5-5’6 and 140-150 lbs. When I first started laying on it after letting it air out for about 48 hours, the mattress did seem to conform to my body and actually was almost comfortable. Without a protector or sheets, the mattress still seems comfortable, however due to sanitary and warranty reasons, you shouldn’t sleep on your bare mattress. With the protector and sheet on, this mattress is just so hard and I can’t understand why this causes the difference. I considered it may be from the waterproof backing of the mattress cover, but the same thing happens with just a sheet. I’m really hoping this is just due to an adjustment period and maybe after a couple weeks it will soften up, however I really do not know. The answered questions section leads me to think this is just the way it will be. I can’t imagine this absolute slab of a mattress being soft, even though I’ve had really high hopes for it. I will come back and update this review if it softens up, as that would take it from a 2 star mattress to a 4-5 easily. If it doesn’t, then I really will be out the $290 and extra nights of lost sleep as I’m really not sleeping well and have pain from this. I wish returning was easier as I’d do that. I will give credit where credit is due though: this mattress seems really great quality honestly, if you like firm then maybe you would like this. Or maybe it just takes a little more time or maybe you should run laps on it. I really don’t know. Second, unboxing was really easy, I’m a small female and I accomplished it by myself. Third, smell? I read lots of reviews about how it smelled, and honestly, I’m even someone who is sensitive to scents and I could hardly smell this mattress without smashing my face into it. And even then, it just smells like a new product. Fourth, the pillow top like layer and the mattress cover are soft to the touch, the cover especially seems like good quality. Last, it really only took 2-3 hours for my mattress to puff up to the full 12 inches. So there are great things about this mattress, it is just way too firm and not at all plush like the description. Like I mentioned, I’ll come back and update if my feelings change. Cross your fingers for me that this slab softens up. ... show more

  • Great mattress for low price!
Size: Queen Style: 12 Inch Pattern Name: Quilted Comfort
This is the first mattress I have ever bought for my first apartment. The mattress box super clean and intact when delivered, and the delivery guy even rolled it directly into my apartment bedroom for me! My boyfriend helped me unbox it, it would have been a little hard to do alone because it was quite heavy. The 12 inch queen size mattress came folded over "hamburger style" then rolled up into the box and sealed in plastic. The mattress itself was very clean and luxurious looking. I had the mattress delivered the first day I had access into my apartment and did not lay on it until 72 hours later. The mattress immediately expanded 6 inches to a little over 8 inches while unboxing and unfolding. 3 days later, it was 10 inches tall on the sides. After sleeping on it for a month, it has expanded to 11 inches on the side and I believe it is the full 12 inches in the center. This is the comfiest mattress I have ever slept on in my life. Great sleep! I sleep alone most nights in the center of the bed, but when my boyfriend visited each side of the bed was great and he agreed it is super comfortable. I prefer mattresses on the firmer side, and this mattress delivers. I was worried it would sink in a lot but it does not! I think people who like softer mattresses would also be satisfied with this. The air conditioning unit in my apartment is in the living room, so it tends to be hot in my bedroom. This mattress did not cool me down for sleeping in my hot bedroom, but it certainly did not make it worse, which was also a concern of mine because I tend to be hot while sleeping. Not anymore! I am also usually a crazy sleeper, messing up my covers and pillows while I sleep. But on this mattress I sleep like a rock. I don't wake up with any pain, soreness, or stiffness. It is hard to get up in the morning because I want to keep laying in bed! I love this mattress and am loving this brand. I got a Zinus 14 inch bed frame and it goes great with it. I also am using a waterproof mattress pad I got from Kohls just to protect my brand new mattress investment. The standard queen mattress pad and queen size sheets fit on the mattress very well and don't slip around. I am very happy with this purchase! For being fresg out of college, starting a new job, moving to a new apartment, this budget mattress is a great choice. I don't normally write reviews but I need to honestly reinforce that this mattress is a purchase worth spending money on! ... show more

  • Mixed feelings about this mattress
Size: King Style: 12 Inch Pattern Name: Quilted Comfort
Let me start by saying that I have chronic pain issues with my back and hips. I realized a couple of years ago that the 4-5 year old spring mattress I was sleeping on was causing me a lot of grief. And so I began a quest for a "better" (as in, better for me) mattress. I've tried multiple mattresses--three different memory foam mattresses (including this one), one hybrid, and two different expensive, popular spring mattresses. Some of them I couldn't get past more than a couple of nights, some a few weeks. Some I lasted a few months, but ultimately ended up miserable. We had bought this exact Zinus mattress in queen size for our RV a year or so ago, and after sleeping on it for almost three weeks this past summer while we traveled, and realizing it was the most comfortable sleep I'd had in a long time, I decided to order it in king size for the bed at home. I ordered the 12", same as we have in our RV. The one in our RV poofed up fairly quickly to about 10 1/2 or 11" (not the full 12) but it was comfortable. This past October (2021), the first king I bought, after following all the directions for it, never poofed beyond about 9" and the corners were even thinner than that. I contacted customer service and was sent a new one. The second one was much better, but still never got much more than 10". But I decided to roll with that, since even the corners had poofed on this one, so it was even at least. For the first few weeks, I was shocked to realize after all the other mattresses I'd tried, this one (at 1/2 or even 1/3 of the price of some of the others I'd tried) was the most comfortable. I slept well. It was firm initially, but sank in just the right amount after lying on it for a few minutes, and rebounded nicely when I would roll over in the night. Unfortunately, now, after 3 months...it's becoming problematic. As it has worn in, it doesn't rebound quickly at all. So I wake up numerous times throughout the night and have to physically lift myself out of the pit I'm lying in (which is miserable when you have chronic pain), in order to turn to my back or to my other side. Also, there are permanent low spots that don't rebound ever now, and it's only three months old. I'm an average-sized woman. There should not already be permanent sunken spots in a three-month-old mattress. Maybe it's the fact that it never did poof up to the full 12". Maybe it's a lemon (which would make two lemons in a row). I just know this hasn't held up well at all. So my advice is that if you want a reasonably comfortable mattress for your RV or a guest room or somewhere that's not used regularly, this could be it. But for long-term use, with my particular type of back and neck pain, it's really hurting me now. I'm particularly disappointed because for those first few weeks, I really thought this was the "one." Sadly, that wasn't the case. ... show more
