Everything came in perfect condition with nothing chipped/damaged -the crochet hooks have wooden handles and are very lightweight -The spinner is great, I would suggest putting something between the part that tightens on the table and the table (makes small marks on the table) and it's not exactly quiet but it's a manageable noise amount :) -it also doesn't come with instructions for putting it together but if you need help there is the product video and if you look at the product images it's pretty easy to figure out -The stitch markers are adorable and heart shaped! I was most excited about these honestly though I would say I specifically was looking forward to getting pink stitchmarkers the most but my box had none so I was a bit sad :,) Overall, I would buy again :) ... show more

This thing growls worse than a pissed off crocodile, and sounds like a disgruntled old man talking about how taxes are too damn high. It gets the job done, but slips on every other rotation on the gear- like the teeth weren't fitted together. In conclusion: Is it useful? Yes. Is it easy to use? Mm. Yes and no.     • Sturdy but a tad bulky
I’m on the fence about this yarn winder. If you don’t have one already and/or you have a need to wind large yarn cakes, as long as you have a decent amount of space, this one will fill a need. Also, if you don’t have a lot of supplies in your yarncrafting stash yet or you tend to lose things, the extras included might be really useful to you. My craft setup already includes a smaller winder, so I got this one for extra-long skeins and bulkier yarns that the smaller winder struggles with. Pros: Compared to my smaller, mostly plastic ball winder, this is heavy duty, and it makes quite large yarn cakes. I’m not sure I actually own a ball or skein of yarn that wouldn’t fit on this thing. It also seems like it will wind a lot of yarn before it breaks, if it ever does. The extra supplies (a mishmash of crocheting and knitting supplies) are cute, if fairly cheaply made, and I’ll probably use them as backup supplies, since it’s convenient to have things in multiple places/project bags. Cons: The big metal gears are a bit noisier than the gears on my small winder, the whole thing takes up a fairly large chunk of space, and the part that tightens the clamp requires more clearance under the table than I need on my other winder, so I’m more limited on where I can use it and what items I can clamp it to. With its metal clamps and weight, I’m concerned about damaging furniture with this, so I’ll only use it on a work table unless I decide to add extra padding to it. (My other winder has a cushioned clamp so I can use it on almost anything.) No assembly instructions are included (they’re only on the Amazon listing), and even though it doesn’t have many pieces, without referencing my other winder I found this one counterintuitive to put together. It’s also bulky and a tad on the inconvenient side to disassemble, so I would most likely not take this with me when traveling, though I have taken my smaller one. To me, whether this winder is a good fit depends on your specific crafting needs. It seems like it leans toward overkill for anyone who doesn’t actually need to wind large cakes, bulky yarn, or lots of yarn, and it might not be the best choice for someone with very limited space or who likes to take their craft setup traveling. If you use big heavy yarns or huge long skeins, and you have ample crafting space and a dedicated work table, though, this seems like it was designed for you. ... show more

Crocheters and knitters know the joy of a nice center pull from a freshly wound cake of yarn. I think winders are a must-have if you have a yarn stash in your home - I was blown away after using my first one. This winder is my second. No assembly or operation instructions were included. This wasn't an issue for me, and there are only two pieces to connect to the main winder. But instructions may be helpful for a new person. This seems to sit just a little closer to the table than my first winder, but it doesn't impact performance. I wound a large skein of Red Heart Super Saver and it handled just fine. The first few cranks were a little sticky, but that worked itself out very quickly. I'd recommend cranking it a few times in both directions before putting any yarn on it. The volume during operation was very much the same as my other winder. This winder came with a bunch of "extras." If you're at the point in your life where you are buying a yarn winder, it's likely you have all of these things already: - Ruler with hook sizes - Snips - not the smoothest action, but they get the job down and the compact size is nice. - An unusual set of crochet hooks - small, almost palm sized with flat plastic handles made to look like wood grain. Would be great if you had a crochet emergency, but I wouldn't use them to make a full sized blanket. - A kawaii tin with two plastic tapestry needles, and almost overflowing with the cutest plastic stitch markers with a heart motif. It's been my experience that stitch markers can be either hard, brittle plastic that break after a few uses; or a more rubbery plastic that hold up much longer (you'll lose them before you break them.) I'd love to have a photo of this in action but I'm forbidden from taking a picture of the clutter in the sewing room where this lives now. Once I handed it over it hasn't been seen since but I'm told it's just lovely, the metal gears and crank don't creak and stick like the old one. No mention of the other tools that came with as they're certainly just going to be extras of ones she already has. ... show more
