My boyfriend and I have a lot of things in common. Our resting body temperatures, however, are not one of those things. He turns into a sweaty furnace in his sleep. It would drive me crazy because he insisted on keeping the covers on him and would turn the air conditioning down to a ridiculously low temperature. Our electric bill was out of hand and with the approaching summer months, something needed to change. I began looking into bedding suggestions for the sweaty sleeper. At the time, we had a gel-type mattress protector that I hadn't previously given any thought to. However, upon doing some research, I started to learn that not all mattress pads are created the same. I quickly saw a pattern emerging with bamboo bedding and it's benefits. After doing a bunch of research on the matter, I bought this mattress pad. It has now been three months and here is what I've found: - Beginning the first night, my boyfriend stopped sweating in his sleep. It was as if a switch had just been flipped. That next morning, he noted to me how great a night sleep he had. This mattress pad is very soft, comfortable and very breathable. - Since then, I've been able to turn the thermostat eight degrees higher than before without him even noticing. - OUR ELECTRIC BILL IS LOWER! That benefit speaks for itself. Something to add: When looking at the reviews for this pad, I noted that a lot of people had two particular complaints: 1. It wrinkles up and folds under the sheets. As you can see in the picture, the mattress pad on the bed does seem to have some extra fabric and waves. This picture was taken after removing the sheets to put them in the wash. I have never noticed this extra fabric or folds while sleeping, as I just pull the cover taught when I put the sheets back on. This does not seem to be an issue. 2. Not liquid-proof. I don't remember seeing anywhere that this product claimed to be immune to spills or liquids. Even so, it does offer mattress protection. I've cleaned the mattress pad a few times now and have never noticed any stains or marks on the mattress beneath it. There was a time when my boyfriend spilled coffee right onto the sheets without realizing and hours later, when removing the sheets and pad, the mattress was unscathed. It might not be great for bed wetting, but it works for our needs just fine. At this price point, the quality really can't be beat. I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone looking to have a more comfortable night sleep.

Good quality mattress cover that breathes well, does not pull off, and is machine washable. Nice thickness. Adds a little softness to the mattress top. Warm in the winter, cool in the summer. We have had ours for four or five years and will replace it with the same thing if it ever wears out. Recommended.

For year's I've been sweltering while sleeping in the summer. I was hot and nothing I could do would let me get comfortable. I thought it was the pillow top mattress on my bed holding heat, then it dawned on me, it might be my waterproof mattress pad. We have had that thing since my daughter was a toddler, and maybe that was what was holding in the heat. If it won't let water pass, it probably isn't letting air pass through and circulate either. On a hunch, I purchased this mattress pad and switched out that old waterproof pad. I'm very glad I did. The pad is cool, comfortable, and doesn't heat up on the middle of the night. I've been sleeping so much more comfortably, and I would have considered paying twice the price for a pad this nice. You should know, even though this says "cooling", it doesn't stay cool all the time. The surface where you are laying does warm up a little, but not uncomfortably warm. If I need a cool spot, I just move a little and you're cool again. I would purchase this again, and have already recommended it to a co-worker.

I recently purchased an Avocado mattress, which I heard was slightly on the firm side. Since I prefer a softer sleep, I was a little worried. It ended up being mostly fine. It is slightly more on the firmer side than I like, but not enough where it creates an uncomfortable sleeping situation. I also like that the Avocado is mostly temperture neutral, since I live in a hot/humid climate. Originally I had purchased a mattress topper. BIG mistake. For those who don't know the difference: A mattress TOPPER is usually a thick (1-3 inches) cushion that straps to the top of your bed. It's like a mini-mattress. A mattress PAD is usually a thinner, an extra layer of fabric that stretches over your mattress like a fitted sheet and can slightly change the hardness/softness. A mattress PROTECTOR is closer to a pad, although usually its main purpose is to prevent liquid spills from ruining the mattress or critters from getting in. The mattress topper was too thick and lumpy, and made it so I couldn't feel the mattress at all. It was also ridiculously hot. So after realizing I made a big mistake, I opted for a pad instead: the Zen. So don't expect a topper when you order the Zen bamboo mattress pad. It's like a fitted sheet with a slightly softer extra layer. It's nice and soft to the touch, and fit over my thick Avocado mattress just fine. I put it over a mattress protector. It's worked out just like I needed it to. I don't know if it has "cooling technology" like it claims, but it at least maintains the neutral temperature of my mattress and does not heat it up. It's soft, but isn't going to change the game like a topper might. It's a slightly, SLIGHTLY extra layer of softness. It does the job, although I do wish it was just a tiiiiny bit thicker. I'd recommend this for someone who is in a stiuation like mine: your mattress is SLIGHTLY too firm, and you just want to give it a slight extra layer of softness. For someone looking for a dramatic change, you might want to opt for a thicker pad or even a topper. For someone who sleeps very very hot, you might want to save up for one of those fancy pads that runs cool water through it.
