I have the Z-Stick 10 Pro attached to a raspberryPi 5 SBC with a touchscreen display. I installed the Home Assistant operating system on it with the help of AI. What do I have now? A truly versatile smart home hub with a touch screen display, and a 100% free mobile app (HomeAssistant is free). But Pi required a hardware controller to detect Z-wave and Zigbee sensors. That’s why I bought the Z-Stick 10 Pro. I can’t confirm for you that the Z-Stick 10 Pro does detect z-wave and Zigbee signals YET because I’ve yet to unpair everything from my stale and useless Vivint/2gig panel and pair them to HomeAssistant through Z-Stick and another controller I still need to buy to detect 345mhz signals. As it turns out, I thought all my home’s sensors and devices were Z-wave when very few are and most are 345Mhz. bought it by mistake, believing my home’s existing sensors were zwave when only one is zwave, and the rest are 345mhz. If Aoetec reads these reviews, please consider including 345mhz signal detection in any future evolution of the Z-Stick 10 Pro. Z-Stick 10 Pro is already versatile but it can be MORE versatile. I would pay more money for a supremely versatile controller: z-wave, Zigbee, 345Mhz, Matter, Thread. I have a bunch of 345Mhz 2gig sensors installed by Vivint, a company that promised me all of our hardware would continue functioning and we would still get to use the app after completing our contract with them, if we discontinued their services afterwards. They just would not monitor, would not respond on the panel, wouldn’t call 911, etc. Lies. The first to shut down was their app. Don’t pay their bill, you can’t log into the app. Without the app, all of the hardware is useless! Despite their lack of monitoring, the panel continued getting firmware updates, and Vivint switched to a new thermostat. So, our thermostat no longer linked to the panel and no longer shut down the furnace when smoke is detected. Their hardware is obsolete, over-priced, and the company LIES. There was no value in the $70 a month we paid to Vivint. For less than what we paid to Vivint for 1 month of Vivint doing nothing in exchange for what we paid monthly, the Z-Stick 10 Pro is a great value in comparison. You don’t need to have a raspberry Pi to run Home Assistant with Z-Stick 10 Pro, either. You can install Home Assistant on a laptop or desktop computer too, and use Z-Stick 10 Pro to detect your zwave and Zigbee devices. As with anything in life, any product can be improved. Bought this when we recently moved into a new home that had both Zigbee and Zwave switches already installed throughout the house. Works great with my Home Assistant server which is running on a proxmox VM. I popped it into an open USB slot and passed it through to the VM and Home Assistant saw it right away.     • Must-Have for Home Assistant Users!
I picked up the Z-Stick 10 Pro to finally consolidate my Zigbee and Z-Wave networks, and so far, it has been excellent. If you're running a cloud-free smart home setup like Home Assistant, this dual-protocol stick is a fantastic value and well worth the investment. Setup and Linux Performance This is where the Z-Stick 10 Pro really shines. I plugged it into my Proxmox server, which is running a Linux-based Home Assistant VM, and it was instantly recognized. Setting up the two serial ports for my Z-Wave JS and Zigbee2MQTT containers was straightforward and everything has been rock-solid. No random disconnects or drop-outs, it just works, which is all you can ask for with an essential piece of infrastructure like this. A Note on Virtualization As expected with most USB pass-through devices, I did run into a few minor hiccups when I briefly tested it in a Windows VM environment (VMware, specifically) before committing to Proxmox. That's a common virtualization challenge, not a fault of the adapter itself, but for anyone planning a similar setup, I highly recommend running it on a stable Linux host environment for the least amount of fuss. Range and Network Stability The coverage and reliability have been impressive. I haven't been able to test the full "up to 1 mile" Z-Wave Long Range claim, but it easily reaches devices at the far end of my property without needing extra repeaters. Both the Zigbee and Z-Wave networks are humming along without any stability issues, keeping my smart home responsive and fast. I upgraded from the Z-Stick 7 to the Z-Stick 10 to get both Z-Wave and Zigbee on a single device, and it’s been a fantastic, rock-solid performer. The best part was the migration. I was worried about re-pairing all my devices, but Home Assistant's built-in tools made it painless. Using the export/import function in the Homeassistant Zwave JS UI, I saved my old network, swapped the sticks, and restored the backup to the new Z-Stick 10. The whole process took less than 15 minutes. Every single Z-Wave device reconnected instantly, which saved me hours of work. The functionality is great—it just works. Both the Z-Wave 800 and Zigbee 3.0 radios are strong and responsive. My network feels faster, and having both protocols on one controller has been a clean, efficient upgrade. A Note on Compatibility: My setup is Home Assistant Yellow with a Raspberry Pi 5, and this stick works perfectly. Works great with home assistant. I was looking for a a dongle to use with z wave and zigbee products. After finding out that there are a couple protocols to use with home assistant, I wasn't sure which one to commit to. Then, I wondered if there was a combo and found this product. Set up was simple as it was plug and play. I run home assistant in a Docker container using open media vault. I ran both zwave and zigbee2mqtt in separate containers and followed the aeotec website on how to find the USB device. Once I had the USB setup for each container, detecting devices was as easy as clicking pair. I did have to update the firmware for zigbee from aeotec website in order to get the zigbee2mqtt container to start. After that, everything else was easy. Been running for about 1-2 months now with no issues. The USB dongle remains and connects again with no issues on restarts/power outages. Quality of the dongle is pretty standard. It's just like any USB out there. Price was reasonable for a product with both protocols all in one. Definitely get the Z-Stick 10 Pro if you want a USB stick radio that can provide Zigbee 3.0 and Z-Wave 800 for your Home Assistant needs! Aeotec has helpful documentation on their website if you need help, they are detailed enough to walk you through most things that you would encounter. Aeotec does a great job of making is easy to get the info you need to work with their products. The price was pretty good considering you are getting two radios in one stick versus having to buy tow separate radios. Home Assistant has come a long way since I started using it on 2023. I am very disappointed and dissatisfied by this product. Not recommended Received a device with old firmware. While trying to upgrade it the button on the device which you supposed to press by a wire or something got broken. It is terribly made of it is that easy to break a plastic button inside that easily. Also the firmware upgrade guide was written for windows users only. If you are like me and you don’t have any windows computer then you are on your own. Horrible experience! ... show more

Great addition to my home assistant setup using the ZHA integration. I’m running HA via a virtual machine through vmware on one of my servers and it had no issues connecting to it. Mainly using with zigbee devices right now and the response speeds are so much quicker than any device I have that runs through a cloud first. It has great range. It’s setup in my basement and has no issues reaching devices all over the house and even outside. ... show more
