  • They need better quality control but its an excellent grill
Style: ZPG-7002E
This was delivered in early December but just put together last weekend. There are 2 sets of instuctunes, one large page and then the book. The large page is worthless doesn't give real details so don't bother. The booklet is much better but the diagrams could be a bit bigger. It wasn't too hard to but together, it took about an hour. There are minor issues with the QA control, like some parts were bent or dented but no damage was noticeable on the shipping box. So that tells me they were defects from the manufacturer. One semi major issue ws the lid wouldn't close properly because the side was bent in... Tried to straighten it but it was still noticeable different from the non damaged side. I bought some grill gaskets to seal everything off so that should work. Cooking was a breeze although the initial startup process is time consuming. Once ready to cook, the grill does what its suppose to. So far I cooked 2 1lb steaks and chicken kabobs. Both came out amazing and it took little effort. I would buy again if I had to and would recommend it to anyone who loves to grill. The first 2 cooks the grill was losing heat because of the bent side but will update the review after using it with the gaskets installed. Great smoker and easy for anyone to use. ... show more

  • Great smoker, for a great price.
Style: ZPG-7002E
To the point: I've had this Z grill smoker for about a year now. So far it has worked great! No complaints or disappointments. Highly recommend. You MUST follow the smoking instructions, and be PATIENT with the temp, and you will have a great smoker. Details: I did some research about Z Grills before I bought mine and I found out that Treager and Z Grill are made by the same people who decided to open separate companies. They use the same basic design and features. It's kind of like a GMC compared to a Chevy 🤷. I assembled it by myself. It would have been easier with two people (recommend in the manual). Took me about 30 minutes. The instructions are pretty straight forward. They also have a video on YouTube to help you out. Once you put it all together, you have to burn the oils out before you smoke anything in it. This is very important! It gives you instructions on how to do this. There is also a video on YouTube of a guy who does this step by step. I would recommend burning the oils at least a day or two before using it to cook. When you are finally ready to smoke, there is a "pre smoke" setting you need to use before setting your temperature. Takes about 10 minutes or less to go through the smoke process. Make sure you leave the lid OPEN or else the smoker can catch fire. Once that is over you can set your desired temp and close the lid. Be patient! It will take a while for the smoker to hit the temp you want. And it won't always stay at the perfect temp. It will go over or be under a few degrees. Don't panic. Let it do its thing. I seen some comments saying that it doesn't hold it's temp. Most smokers will not hold temp perfectly during the whole process. Give it time and be patient. Keep in mind that the weather can mess with your temp as well. I've had mine for a year now and I haven't had any problems. If you follow the instructions carefully, it should work great. You can also use this as a grill. Turn the dial to the "high" setting, let it get up to temp and when it's ready you can use it just like a grill. I noticed the manual says they recommend to only use Z Grill brand pellets, cause they work the best with this grill. I decided to get some treager pellets and they work just fine with it. Over all it's a great smoker for a great price compared to it's competition. I would highly recommend buying one. ... show more

  • The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly
Style: ZPG-700D4E
Overall very satisified with the performance of the smoker. Did my research like everyone else here reading reviews and watching. videos. I have been using it for the last 6 months just about every weekend to smoke ribs, chicken, pork, steak, pretty much everything but brisket (I can't wait 12 hours to eat it!) The temperature is well regulated and has helped to really up my smoking game. Shipping was fast as you would expect from Amazon. So breaking down my assessment of the product: The Good: Great value, solid temp regulation/performance, large smoking area with 2 racks (size matters when you have a big get together and have a stuff to prepare) The Bad: Assembly can be challenging with the instructions they give so watching You Tube videos on the assembly helps. The Ugly: Bottom storage area doors for my smoker didn't fit well as one door was a little high so you couldn't close the right side door as it would not fit into the "doorway". I had to do some precision rubber mallet work to get the right side door to bend just enough so it would fit into the "doorway" and close. Still looks a little janky but it works. See pics for the before and after. :) Final thoughts: For ease of cleanup get- stainless racks (easy to wipe down but don't forget to season them first), Traeger aluminum drip pan sheets (more durable than using foil- which can rip apart when you try to remove it and makes a mess), and aluminum drip bucket liners. Enjoy and happy smoking! ... show more
