- COMBINATION VISE: The Yost Vises 455 5.5-inch utility combination pipe and bench vise is made from a 30,000 PSI cast grey iron with a steel U-channel bar. Equipped with a large anvil work surface, it also has replaceable hardened steel serrated top jaws and a large capacity permanent serrated pipe jaw.

- SWIVEL BASE: 360-degree rotatable swivel base with 2 lockdowns.
- HOW TO USE: Make sure the vise is securely mounted to the workbench and the swivel base lock is secure. Open vise by turning the vise handle counterclockwise. Place item between the serrated jaws. Close the vise by turning the handle clockwise until the item is snug in the serrated jaws, and continue to tighten until you can no longer move it. Don't over-tighten as this may damage the item and/or the vise. When finished working on the item, turn screw handle counterclockwise to release the item.

The shaft is covered and protected from corrosion when mounted outside. The jaws are quality and show no corrosion being on the back of a service truck uncovered. There is really no play or wiggle to the vise when open and lines up to hold your work easily. Haven’t had any concerns or doubts while using, holds pipe decently but I usually use the yost chain vise for pipe. Would definitely recommend.

I use this for basic woodworking and simple smithing tasks, and for those purposes it's great. It seats well, with four anchor points. The swivel feature is quite handy if you mount the vise somewhere that doesn't offer 360° access. The flat surface is a fantastic feature and I wish every vise had one; it seems small but ends up being just large enough for almost any casual need. The jaws grab tightly, securely, and evenly. The powder coat is durable enough to take a few missed swings. For making bookshelves, garden trellises, and such, or for mounting up metal pieces to torque up to 120ft-lbs or so, this is a very good purchase and a fantastic value.

I love this vise. I got the 5.5" one as an upgrade from my previous one which was often too small, or would slip on my workbench. My previous one was the kind that tightens itself on the the workbench but doesn't bolt in. The Yost 455 is the perfect size for my projects and allows me to bolt it down so it's easy to use. Let me share the bolts, washers, and locking nuts you will want to use for mounting this. There is some conflicting information in the Q&A and reviews. If you have a workbench where you can drill through the top, I can say definitively that the best way to mount it is use the base as a template and mark where the holes are in the base. Then use a 1/2" drill bit to drill holes through the tabletop. I used the following hardware which should work for anyone. You'll just need to adjust the bolt length for the width of your tabletop. Bolts: 1/2 in.-13 x 2-1/2 in. Hex Bolt (2.5" was the right length for my tabletop, you made need shorter or longer) Washers: 1/2 in flat washers with a 1 in outer diameter (OD) (1/2" inner diameter) Locking nuts: 1/2 in.-13 Nylon Lock Nut All the mounting hardware set me back about $11 at the local orange colored hardware store. It would have been nice if the hardware was included, but the vise itself is a great value regardless.

I had started looking at the 445, which claims it's made in the USA. I wanted to go one size up, but didn't realize that meant I was getting a Chinese vise. I haven't even used it yet, so I'm not going to review bomb this thing. I missed the little note about the origin in the details on this page, so I have to take some responsibility. I am just disappointed because this company advertises all over that their products are made in the US and the other model I looked at was (supposedly). This one has mostly better reviews than that one too, but it definitely feels cheaply made. I'll test it out, but my hopes are low.
