While there is a mk2 version of this lens, I actually prefer this one as it is lighter and easier to carry when I don't want to bring my whole camera bag. As a prime lens, you have to use your legs to zoom in and out, but it focuses quickly and the wider aperture range allows for more artistic shots. The lens hoods that I currently have are not compatible with this lens, but the glass is recessed enough that I don't think that one would be necessary. The small form factor also helps to prevent accidental scratches and dings. Don't lose the lens cover and you should be fine. Edit: I purchased a used one of these, but it seized up after about 6 weeks and it turned out that the previous owner dropped it and tried to fix some of the internal mechanisms. Replacing it wasn't a big deal, but know that the lightweight construction makes this lens much less forgiving than the comparable Cannon model. ... show more

This little "nifty fifty" is great! The pictures have very good bokeh, especially when you couple it with a Viltrox Speedbooster. While the lense is a 1.8 on a normal adapter; when using the speedbooster it gives you 1.2! If feels VERY cheap, but I think it is a great starter 50mm. Last, the auto focus is good, but it is a little slower than I would like, and it is a bit noisy. ... show more

I am no expert photographer, matter of fact I’ve only taken a dozen of photos with any camera other than my phone! I watched videos and read tons of articles on photographing people when I eventually came to the conclusion that the 50mm was pretty much a staple lens for this. I was hesitant because there are so many others that are a lot more pricey however this one is great! The pictures are of my son and I feel like they turned out amazing for a newbie like myself! This is an excellent option for the newbie and for the hobbyists. Its a great nifty fifty prime for the price. The foreground focus is clean, while the background gives a nice faded bokeh. Its perfect for headshots and bust shots. I haven't used it for street or even architecture, yet. There's a noticeable difference in the quality of the build compared to a OEM Canon lens. Yet, it's about the same size, and same functionality. I've had many different Canon and Nikon lenses throughout my time, yet this one is half the price with a better-than-average result. I’m really surprised at this little guy. For the coast it’s a gear beginner lens for me. When using on display focusing it is quite slow and clumsy but using the eyepiece it focuses just as good as my canon kit lens. I love the fact it has auto focus and manual focus options and that it is a prime lens (no zoom for newbies like me). If you want a cheap good lens to start out and add to your collection while you are beginning and might drop or scratch a lens before you become a pro then get this lens it’s amazing. ... show more

I’m a professional musician turned streamer over the last year and just upgraded from canon M50’s to canon RP’s. I used this lense on a Meike EF to RF adaptor. (I def recommend the Meike over the Viltrox adaptor). Overall - this lens produces nice images for the price but it is SO cheaply made and the auto focus noise is unbearable. If you’re 100% manual focus it’s hard to find too many faults with the lens other than a yellowish overall tone (compared to canon lenses) and the super cheap build quality. For $200 the canon EF or RF version is worth the extra $ for me. Fun experiment but grateful to AMZ 30 day free return and glad to have native Canon RF glass on the RP now. ... show more
