The installation is pretty straight forward. The instructions it comes with are very informative. The cover fits tight, and it's extremely heavy duty.     • Very Good Tri-fold Tonneau Cover
Size: 6' Pattern Name: Soft 3-Fold Configuration: 2016-2023
This was rather easy to install. It comes with some thick stick-on neoprene type seal gasket material that is supposed to be installed at the front bed bulkhead, but for my '23 Tacoma, I did not need it (I'd suggest trying first without). Other than that, easy peasy. Most of my time spent installing the cover was going back and forth adjusting how it sat on the top of the bed, which requires undoing the hold down clamps and repositioning them, etc. The assembly instructions are generic for different makes and models of trucks, so take them with a grain of salt. It may be best to research You Tube videos or videos in some of these reviews to get the idea how to install the cover. I've only had the cover on for about 6 weeks but here are my current the pros and cons of my experience with this tonneau cover: Pros: 1) Very easy to install and operate 2) Fairy water tight as originally installed. I've handwashed my truck several times since installing the cover (even pointed the water spray where the cover sets on the top of the bed) and only a slight amount of water gets into the bed, mainly where the tailgate meets the cover (I am talking less than a shot glass worth). I am sure with a little extra gasket material installed, clamp tightening and/or repositioning the cover, it would be reduced to drops, if not fully water proof. 3) Comes with safety clamps and straps that a fix to the factory rails, so if the front and rear clamps loosen up and let go at speed, the whole assembly shouldn't fly off the truck. Cons: 1) The machined slots in the aluminum crossbars for positioning the hold down clamps had a bunch of aluminum particles that got stuck on the underside of the cover. I had to use a vacuum with brush attachment to get the particles off and sweep out my bed, since I didn't notice until after I installed the cover. The shavings should have been removed during the manufacturing process. 2) The gasket that runs down the length of the cover is segmented at the folding pivot points. While unfolding the last panel to lay down and cover the bed, some of this gasket gets a bit caught up and folds underneath itself at the pivot point. I have to manually and gently lift up at the pivot points on each side and straighten out the gasket. Not a big deal, but something extra that is needed to do. 3) One of the rear hold down clamp somehow rotated in the slot 90 degrees and would not fold flat, which would cause issues if trying to fold the panels forward. I tried to persuade the clamp by pushing and pulling on it while trying to rotate it back into position, but in the end, I used the end of a wrench and pushed on the end of the clamp in the slot area while pulling/twisting on the other end and it rotated back into position. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase and would do it again. Great looking and good price too. ... show more

I read some of the negative reviews and had some reservations, but after analyzing the complaints, many seemed that they were user issues. The con(s): - The only real negative is there’s not much information on how tight to tighten the clamps in the instructions. They don’t give any relative information on how tight is over tight or too loose. - The clamps to secure the top to the rails point straight down when latched. I can see this interfering with stuff in the bed. Minor, but I don’t like that. I’d rather have the handles down to open. The positives: Very well packaged and protected Very well labeled Extra parts supplied (clamp pieces) Delivered, unpacked, installed and packing dumped in 51 minutes I just installed this cover. I have no idea how waterproof this is and only time will tell. For the price, it’s worth every penny, but I’ll update this review of I experience a failure of any kind. ... show more

    • 2012 Tacoma Short Bed - Tri-Fold Cover -- 20 Month Update
Size: 5' Pattern Name: Soft 3-Fold Configuration: 2005-2015
20 Month Update: Hot, cold, wind, rain, snow. High speed fwy and hwy driving and still looks like new. Cover remains taught, pliable and color has not faded. No cracks, tears, sagging or issues of any kind. Back latches, which seem flimsey, continue to work and have shown no sign of breaking. All good 6 MONTH UPDATE: Lots of rain this year. Cover still looks good (no fade) and remains as taut as a drum with no sign of wear or tear. Lots of rain this winter so a very small amount of water entered along leading edge when driving. Not enough to complain about. 1 MONTH UPDATE Just completed an 1600 mile trip averaging 80+MPH with very strong cross winds Everything good EXCEPT the two back latches. Blew loose on three occasions due to cross winds, had to stop and make road side adjustments. (I initially added hold down hooks to the front edge--see #3 below--glad I did). My initial concern for the latch design proved valid. Still the thing is less than $200. Finding the right tension for the hooks is a closely run thing...the hooks are plastic and snap if over tightened. The Cam Handles lack a "flat spot" to seat so vibration also contributed to them levering loose. Otherwise the cover took the wind beating in stride. No wind noise and the cover remains taught. Just lucky the thing didn't fly off and cause an accident. INITIAL REVIEW The product is less than $200 so my expectations are tempered accordingly. Vehicle: 2012 Tacoma, 4 Door, Short (5') Bed WITH inside side rail. I do not expect this to last years, but consider it fine for the price. I am about to embark on a long, high speed trip in various weather. I will edit this post accordingly upon return. Install: a) Fit is perfect. Easy to install. b) Had rail clip or the pull down issues which some have mentioned. Everything fit square. No drilling, cutting, etc. needed. b1) Note: Tacoma beds taper so use innermost slots for the front ties and center slots for the rear ties. c) There is a gap across the front. The foam strip provided is too thin to fill the space. If concerned purchase a thicker foam insulation strip (1-1/2") Things I don't like. 1) The plastic latches in the back are poorly conceived; plastic hooks with a flimsy plastic tension lever. Make sure to adjust gradually to avoid breakage. There is a reason an extra set of plastic hooks is provided 2) There are only 4 tie down spots. The two forward ones are pretty secure. The two back...well, see #1. 3) Nothing holds down the leading edge so I made two hooks which grab the frame channel and tie down to a couple of points I installed (to tie down my bike). The hooks secure the front edge, pulling the frame tight to the foam, sealing the front edge while providing some piece of mind. ... show more
