It has no "metal base" - it is now 6 plastic pieces which lock together. Also, apparently no "bonded leather." It appears to be a very, very thin layer of plastic naughahyde on a cloth backer. You can actually see the weave of the fabric through the plastic. Assembly went OK, but forget about Fig. 14 - it is 180o a**-backwards. Look at the drawing on the front of the instructions for the placement of the arms. The quilted part of both back and seat go together. They took a classic design and did a good job of reproducing it. While time will tell, at the moment the cushioning is very good-excellent and it gives great back support. Very comfortable, but a bit sticky since it, apparently, is NOT bonded leather. My old bonded leather chair has served for a decade and a half; I have full confidence in it's bonded leather with a canvas backing, which over time has gradually worn away is certain high traffic areas. It has always been comfortable, never sticky. I am afraid that with the present chair even a sharp fingernail will rip that plastic. So be warned and careful. Chair is comfortable, but sticky, since you do not get "bonded leather." WRT "tilting," yes you can get it to "tilt" but not the way you imagine - you can adjust the range that it will swivel due to a spring adjustment on the bottom. Not quite what I had in mind. What a shame that they didn't do it in real bonded leather!

The assembly of the chair is very simple for me, as long as you can find its accessories from the inside of the chair backrest, which of course I know from the instructions. Then I noticed that the supplier had hung cards on the zipper of the backrest that indicated where the accessories were, but I ignored them. I am a medium sized person, 6 feet tall and 250 pounds. Note: I've only had it for two weeks, so I don't know how it will perform, but the chair feels good to me and can easily handle my weight.

If you're a giant and like waiting forever for delivery. YOU BETTER HOPE YOU WANT THIS TOO BECAUSE THEY WILL CHARGE YOU $70 TO RETURN THIS. I get that, but that should be a seller and an Amazon process... seller is not the person who drops this off at your door (Amazon is). Therefor, whoever delivers should be held accountable for damaged or lost products. Good chair, but again be sure.

It looks really heavy when it arrives in the box, so be prepared. Assembly is very easy, just make sure you watch the video. So far it's been great! Not as much lumbar support as I'd like, but I sit pretty straight when I'm working at my desk, so maybe I'm just sitting too far forward! Very happy with the chair!
