It's not real damascus, as the pictures suggest. It's average steel with a damascus pattern etched into it with acid etching. They're still good knives for the price. Hand wash and hand dry immediately, because they rust very easily.

I did not know carbon steel is not the cheaper stainless steel but a knife that needs care ! Hand wash and hand dry all ways. I did not research these knives correctly as they will rust !!!! I have used cheap stainless steel knives and spoiled by just leaving them in the sink , you cannot do that with these high carbon steel knives . These knives are much harder steel than good stainless knives , and the quality is very high indeed but better quality for a knife set this size are Damascus Steel and cost more than twice as much . The Rubberwood block is great and the shears come apart for cleaning and drying . The Serrated knife is the bread knife only , a dull knife is a dangerous knife so treat these knives well and they will last a lifetime and cleaning and drying will become easy and quick & become a habit . The complaints come from being spoiled with cheap stainless knives of the past , i admit i did not know they would rust so take care of these quality knives . If you can afford Damascus Steel knives get them but the price is ridiculous, i am resigned to washing and drying after use no problem . The crummy serrated stainless steak knives are not in this Yatoshi 13 Knife Block Set and these knives cut steak like butter . Several reviewers hate the fact they must wash & dry the knives you use , this is the price for hard quality carbon steel knives and it is worth it ! I am not sending these quality knives back because they will rust if not dried , i know the worth of sharp quality knives ! If you live a fast pace lifestyle and do not have time get the cheaper stainless steel knifes !

These knives are awesome. I gave them to my mother for Christmas and she absolutely loves them. We opened them immediately and washed them so we could use the steak knives for the steak we had for dinner. They cut the steak like butter with no effort, are easy to hold, and look great. Highly recommend these knives for your kitchen or as a gift!
