I’ve been putting off buying one for ages, but when I started dyeing yarn for a project I decided to just get one. I’m glad I got the larger one because even though it says 15 ounces, the yarn still started winding under the plastic piece. The yarn was 10 oz, but a bulky blanket yarn so it was not super unexpected. It was super simple to assemble with really only one piece to attach. Seems really durable so far and is quieter than I expected. I love that now I can wind up all my yarn so it’s neater and easier to use when I’m using it!

This yarn winder replaced a flimsier one I was struggling with. This one has proved to be much sturdier and stays in put without shifting around on the table. I didn't have trouble assembling, but this is not the first winder I have assembled. The winder is nice and sturdy, made almost entirely of metal. The clamp allows for attaching to thicker tables. I love that the clamp and base are all metal. The stationary arm is stabilized on a wide metal slat and this is a huge upgrade from my previous model. This keeps the stationary arm from wobbling. I suggest using a paper towl or silicone jar-opener between the clamp and table to prevent scratching. This winder also allows for larger cakes. I have been able to greatly consolidate a bunch of smaller skeins into more compact larger skeins. This is especially good for creating large scrap skeins for crocheting scrapghans from a single skein. I was able to wind very quickly without getting tangled once, which is a huge upgrade. This is the first winder I have had with the dual yarn guides and really does make winding more balanced and stable. It has worked well for me using sz 3 weight up to bulky. Overall, a great heavy-duty yarn winder and a good value for the current price of $49.

The media could not be loaded. The first thing you notice is that this yarn winder is made of very high quality materials. Many of the components are made of metal, and the parts that are made of plastic, such as the winding gears, are thick and sturdy. This is a product that seems like it will last a long time and should endure substantial use. As compared to other similar products, this one certainly seems worth the $40 price tag (the price when we ordered it). It is designed to be clamped to a table top, and the clamp is more than adequate for the job. Neither side of the clamp has any padding, so we use some folded up paper towels to keep it from damaging the countertop. The winding rod is adjustable; it can be lengthened or shortened. We had to shorten it a little bit from the initial setup in order to keep it from colliding with the wire hook at the bottom of its arc. But that was easy to do. It involved simply loosening two nuts, adjusting the length of the rod, and then tightening the nuts again. This machine was simple to set up, and, as seen in the attached photos and video, it works great. My only concern would be that it may not work as for a thicker yarn. The slot into which yarn is inserted at the top of the winding drum in order to begin winding is not very wide, so especially hefty yarn may not be able to be squeezed into it.
