Alnico V humbucking pickups combined with a 5-position pickup selector and a passive push/pull Focus Switch provide uncommon versatility from a two-pickup guitar. • Love this guitar
Color: Swift Blue
I love playing this guitar. I researched guitars for 6 months before buying a new guitar because I wanted a humbucker sound, with some clarity and still a bit of high end. This fit the bill. The first time I picked it up it felt right. The only thing I had to get used to are the jumbo frets. I'm used to medium jumbo, but the jumbo are not taking as long to get used to as I thought. The finish is beautiful. It stays in tune well. I get the fuller hum bucker sound I like while still getting the clarity I want. ... show more

  • Resonant
Color: Flash Green
This Yamaha Revstar Standard is beautifully crafted. It’s reasonably light in weight. The paint job is beautiful in a Metallic Green with subtle black racing stripes. What struck me is it’s so resonant. The notes really seem to ring out. The neck is very smooth and comfortable. This is supposed to be their mid tier Revstar with the Element below it and the Professional level above it. I don’t know how the Professional can be better. I suppose made from better grade or species of wood? The craftsmanship on this is perfect and it plays so nicely. If the Professional level is in fact better, it can’t be over a $1400 better. That’s the price difference between the Standard and the Professional level. Several people online say the Element is the super deal of the three and maybe it is. I can’t say because I never tried one but I wanted the added features the Standard gave and I feel the difference in money from the Element to the Standard was well worth it. I’m just not seeing how the Professional could be THAT better. I’d like to try one to see but I own several very expensive guitars and this feels right there with them. I wanted to get one of these awhile ago, I just couldn’t choose between the blue or the green. My only wish was that they offered P90s in the racing stripe and tuneomatic bridge. I may have went with that if I did just to get a p90 loaded guitar. ... show more

  • Great price for a great Guitar
Color: Black
I've heard for years from people I respect that this guitar is probably the best guitar you can get for under a $1000. I've had real Gibson Les Paul's and many different guitars over the years, I've been a real Fender guy for a while now but wanted a Gibson style guitar but not a Gibson. I decided to finally get the guitar and boy am I glad I did. For several years my American professional strat has been my go to but now I always want to grab this guitar. It feels and sounds great, highly recommend. ... show more

  • Fantastic build design and quality.
Color: Swift Blue
I watched a lot of videos and read a lot of reviews before purchasing the Revstar Standard. From what I know, there hasn't been a great deal of innovation on electric guitars since the 80s but I think Yamaha has kept a classic look and feel but added some new features and refined some old ones that combine to make a unique instrument that maintains classic tones. I own a Taylor Solid body, a Gretch hallow body, a Shecter S-1 and have owned several Fenders and a Gibson Les Paul. These days Gibson guitars are so expensive and although they have many great qualities I think you are paying a great deal for the name. Yes they are classic and have a great tone and they are beautiful to look at so I am still a fan. I was actually playing my brother in law's Gibson SG when I decided I wanted a new guitar. First I updated my Schecter S-1 with new Gibson SG pickups. Man did that ever help the sound for that guitar. However I still wasn't excited about it. I then looked at used and new, Gibsons and Epiphones. Either too expensive or too many corners cut (Epiphone). Then I started looking and the Yamaha Revstar and it was so well reviewed that it was easy to decide. A great guitar that has a fantastic tone and play-ability. Build Quality is flawless. I am very pleased with my choice and look forward to improving my skills on the slick neck and stainless-steel frets. ... show more

  • NOT FOR ME
Color: Flash Green
What we have here is a black back guitar. Black back means lets do it ass cheap as we can. A beautiful front and a nothing black back. The neck is wider than it has to be. Basically a wanna be Epiphone SG. First gripe. The bridge. Unlike an SG you can only raise or lower the bridge via the knurled wheels. Yamaha gives you no screwdriver slots and those knurled adjustments do not move when under tension...at all. Second gripe the pickups are unlovely for lack of a better word. They are shrill, they bite, they have no nuance. They squeal with the gain increase. Third gripe. The body is too big. This guitar will not fit in any hardshell case I have. The lower bout is too monstrous and that make this guitar much less ergonomic than an SG. Back to the drawing board Yamaha. .. ... show more

  • Amazing guitar.
Color: Flash Green
This is an absolutely amazing guitar. Not to many people use them yet but reviews on multiple websites all rave about it. It looks great, it stays in tune, and feels smooth.

  • Great sounding guitar at a great price.
Color: Vintage White
I am really impressed with the Yamaha Revstars. The second generation guitars take up a notch with the build quality. The hamburgers geared more towards jazzy type tones but make no mistake, you can make these puppies roar. It's such a playable guitar.

  • It is a very beautiful well made guitar
Color: Vintage White
Yamaha's product descriptions are accurate. I would recommend this guitar to anyone considering buying a guitar with humbuckers. This guitar is replacing for me a Gibson ES-135. I think that I enjoy playing this one more; the tones are great and the weight is so much better.
