  • Its Beautiful
Style: Spruce Top Set: Acoustic-Electric
Its one gorgeous guitar . I'm truly in love. But seriously fellas who ever is packing this guitar needs some packing education. All the padding was on one side of the shipping box and guitar within that box was right against the shipping box. I was really lucky, it arrived in perfect shape. The guitar I give 5 stars and packing 1 star. ... show more

  • Entry Level Solid Top
Style: Solid Cedar Top Set: Acoustic
Great for those wanting to try a classical guitar that want to at least start with a solid top. Only negative was the strings it came with needed replacement within only a few hours of play. Easily solved for a longtime player but could turn off a novice who bought this as their first guitar. Just get some new strings! ... show more

  • "Forever Home", part deux...
Style: Solid Cedar Top Set: Acoustic
I was browsing Amazon, brain on idle, and drifted towards the guitar section. I'd been kicking around the idea of taking classical guitar instruction at a local community college, and figured my previous "rescue guitar" (Yamaha CGS103AII, see my review for details) probably wasn't going to be adequte for the task. Really wasn't intending to buy another instrument, and then...saw 2 returned CG122MCHs for sale in "good" condition. So, throwing caution (and money) to the wind, I ordered the cheaper of the two. Amazon responded before I could change my mind (no joke, it went from initial purchase to "Shipping Now" in about 7 hours, delivered in about 52 hours. Shoutout to the peeps at ONT6 BTW - we gotchu!) and I received a 5 foot tall box o'git Sunday morning, with no shipping damage apparent. Opened the box, aaaaand...dug through poured foam packing to find the instrument, wrapped in heavy duty polyethylene plastic with shipping tape holding it all together. Peeled the tape and plastic back to find...a pristine guitar, no physical damage noted. Gave 'er a strum, and...huh? Sounded a bit off, but gave 'er the benefit of the doubt. After getting a few more hours of sleep, got both of my classical guitars out for a head-to-head comparison. Re-strummed the CG122MCH, and noted it was way out of tune. Tuned it up, and since all the strings were out approximately equal amounts it was obvious it had been tuned at some point prior to arrival. Held tune just fine, and started running my usual checks. Intonation was dope (even the "G" string was within +-5 cents) and 2 things stood out: fretting was noticeably easier, and this thing is LOUD! Projects nicely, and tends to be a bit bass-heavy (cedar top, yo). Much greater sustain than the littler git, and not as bright. All in all, a worthy addition to the collection. Now, for the reason for 4 stars; the CG122MCH is advertised as having a "low action". Got my engineering ruler out, and measured the string height at the 12th fret. Low "E" was 4 mm off the top of the fret, and high "E" is 3.5 mm off the top of the fret. Folks, that's not a "low action", that's industry standard for a classical guitar, and is the same as the CGS103AII. Just a WAG on my part, but I suspect this instrument has light tension strings, making it easier to fret. Since I have zero idea what was done to the instrument prior to its arrival, I can't honestly blame Yamaha on this one. So...-1 star for standard string height, usual 5 for pretty much everything else. If it bugs me enough, I'll take it to a luthier for height adjustment, bone nut & saddle & a fresh set of normal tension strings. Another keeper! 🥰😁👍 ... show more

  • Great little guitar!
Style: Spruce Top Set: Acoustic-Electric
Very good little guitar! If you are looking into buying a small guitar for traveling or to your kids, look no further. It is a perfect kids guitar as it is easy to tune, sounds good and has smaller spaced frets. For 100 bucks it is good value as the craftmanship is amazing! Compared to toy guitars or other Chinese produced crap which is not playable, this guitar could be played by an adult, altough a bit unusual due to the small frets and higher tuning. As a bonus it is NOT made in China! ... show more

  • Nice guitar but action set way too high
Style: Solid Cedar Top Set: Acoustic
I have never bought a guitar that was playable out of the box and this one is no different. Action at the nut was 0.035 for all strings, unplayable. So I worked on it and now it is 0.010 high E and 0.017 low E and plays wonderfully. Also the nut was not seated correctly and there was a noticable gap between nut and fretboard. With the nut removed you see a brass nut down in a hole which tells me this guitar has a truss rod, now curiously all Yamaha specs say it does not have a truss rod, well I believe my own eyes, whether it was meant to be adjustable is a better question. I have purchased many new guitars over forty years and all had ridiculously high action at the nut and required luthier skills which I taught myself but always I was asking, does it have to be this way? What about the owner who cannot do these adjustments, will they really pay a luthier $100 to set it up for them, no way, and so they are doomed to try and play a guitar which cannot be played. ... show more

  • Cheap guitar, sounds ok
Style: Spruce Top Set: Acoustic
It works for me. I wanted a cheap guitar to monkey around with. Guitars have gotten cheaper over the years. This isn't as good as a guitar I bought for $80, but that was a different time, different dollars.

  • Amazing guitar for the price.
Style: Solid Cedar Top Set: Acoustic
Absolutely stunning sound for $250. I got the cedar top. Beautiful resonance. As for the downsides it has some cosmetic issues (e.g., printed-on rossette), some components are made with cheaper materials, and it doesn’t sound as nice as a concert quality instrument. But for a $250 manufactured guitar… I’m super happy. It really sounds quite nice. ... show more
