I have used this yarn winder so much, and I've only had it for about 10 days. I've already really put it through the test! If you are thinking about this, just get it; you won't be sorry. As long as I keep the yarn between 2 fingers (not tightly, just a teeny bit of tension), it winds a nice cake that goes right into my yarn bowl. The winder is a good purchase for someone who loves cakes of yarn. My old one was plastic and the gears didn't last me long so I decided to go metal. I got this one thinking it would hold up for my massive amounts of yarn that I cake on a daily basis. I’ve used it twice and I’ve gotten a lot of shards of metal as well as the gears are starting to diminish and get stuck. Sometimes it would either get stuck or it would skip. I didn’t want to give up so I was able to change the gears by tightening the bolts, and it seem to have helped. However, the shards of metal coming off are still happening and it is a little bit of a hazard. The Winder cakes up yarn really well. And has no problem kicking up my large skins. If I could go back, I probably would have chosen a different one but I don't feel like returning as I need this constantly. ... show more

Mine came fully put together except for the bottom lead. It is sturdy,and mechanically sound. Made a 4oz cake with it right out of the box. Very pleased with this.

For me, it was hard to find a table it would fit, but I do enjoy it now that I found that right table.

This works pretty well, but didn't come with instructions for either assembly or use. It wasn't too hard to figure out, though. YouTube videos were helpful. The upright feeder arm jiggles loose while winding, so I have to tighten it down. I finally figured out that it's a little less of an issue if the skein or hank you're winding from is straight out in front of the winder. Unfortunately, that doesn't suit my setup, but if you have a larger table it should be fine. You do have to watch that the yarn stays on the spindle and winds evenly. At least part of that is getting the tension right. (Like so much else with crocheting and knitting) Given the low cost of this winder, I'm glad I got it. ... show more

I had a lot more yarn then I thought and really happy I got this. Fits a good amount in the roller. And when you get a groove, it goes really smooth. Make sure you put a piece of cardboard or something similar on top and under the table where you’re gonna put it. If not, you’ll end up with scratches (as I learned the hard way, lol). Will slightly slide but the buffer kinda helps with that cause there’s more for the clamp to ground. Other than that, amazing! ... show more
