My senior dog (16+ years) loves this. We put it on the floor with a blanket on it and she loves it. The heating pad seems to do best with a blanket loosely on top of it because it traps the heat. We keep it on “low” all day and she loves it. I try to remember to turn it off overnight when she’s in a different room, but I’ve forgotten many times and it’s been fine. This is a great value, especially for a large dog. The low setting makes this mat feel like a spot in the sun! It is not "hot" but a comforting warm spot for your dog to enjoy. We ordered two and have tested them out during the day for hours with supervision to make sure there was no safety issue. I suggest everyone do the same for any product you plan to leave on for hours. My dog does not necessarily appreciate the slick surface, but that is easily resolved by putting one of her thin doggie blankets on it. ... show more

I actually bought 2 of these and so far my dogs and I are very happy with them both. We have one of these just laying on the floor in our dining room and have it set on low. Our 2 little dogs love to curl up on this heating pad and fall to sleep on it. We also have a larger dog that I’m building a insulated dog house for him to be able to use outside whenever we won’t be home he’s going to stay outside in his kennel. Since I never knew how bad the weather will be? I went all out to make this a doghouse that will stay extremely warm or cool regardless what the temperature outside is and it also has a home style doggie door to get in and out of the doghouse that will close up completely to keep out any wind blowing that shouldn’t get in the doghouse at all. Besides this heating pad it will also have another heater put up at the roof level to help warm up air that will have a small air vent to let in fresh air. So my dog will have a warm pad to lay on and a nice warm breeze blowing down on him when it’s cold outside. Heating pad and heater will be on a thermal switch that will turn off the devices when the temperature warms up and being completely insulated it should remain fairly cool inside when it’s hot outside too! Dog sheds a lot, so I probably have to remove this heating pad in the summer and clean it and put it away till it gets closer to winter again! ... show more

So the bed itself is a great for a large kennel. And when it works, the heating level is great. But “when” is the key word. The switch is crap. Hit or miss if the switch makes contact to actually turn the bed on. Plus you can literally see the sparks through the plastic when it arcs when you turn it on. A simple (and cheap) RC snubber would have been a smart design move. ... show more

They say not to have plugged in for more than 24hrs, and not use "high" for longer than 10 min. So, i turned it off every 24hrs for 30 min, but i used high a lot when the pipes were first born. They love their warm mat!
