I've had this a couple weeks, love it. Already ordered the extension kit because I have some things I want to do that need that, but I wanted to make sure it would work for me first. Assembly was easy -- probably spent about an hour because I was going slow and making sure I understood each step. Everything was included. My only issue is that the laser module cable may be interfering with homing which makes repeat positioning have some error, but this appears to be a known issue and there are solutions. I figure I'll handle that when I take it apart and add the extensions. Using it has been fun. I have no trouble cutting 5mm plywood (I should try thicker, just haven't yet). I've tried both Lightburn and the default software for machine control -- everything is really straight forward in both, and if you've already done CAM for CNC machines, using a laser will be both intuitive and much easier. ... show more

The Xtool laser has performed really well. Take the time to learn the software and keep track of the materials and settings and you can cit or engrave whatever you can imagine. Fun tool to have in the shop.

    • Easy to Setup and Learn, Lots of Features

I was thoroughly impressed with this machine. Setup was rather simple; the instructions were clear and easy to follow. The software that comes with the engraver is far more robust than I expected. For something that is free, it carries pretty much all the features I'd need coming out of the gate. It was super intuitive to learn how to input a design, adjust it for engraving, and fire off a product. Really the hardest part was simply trial and error of figuring out what power/speed setting to use for particular products on certain materials. I had a slight issue with the safety feature (the limit switch), but the customer service was quick and on point. They responded fast and took care of it. I used a CNC machine prior to this, which took a great deal of setup and a sharper learning curve (love that machine still). But, wow... the laser engraver is ridiculously easy to setup and just get going. I now use it far more than my CNC because of the speed and ease of use. I've also managed to figure out how to cut things on CNC and then use the laser engraver to fill in areas that are better executed with such a device. I highly recommend this machine for any either starting to learn laser engraving or even those that have been in the field for a while. ... show more

    • You never know when it will actually work!

I have had the engraver for just over two months. Here is what I have found. 1. You never quite know if it will actually work each time. This is the most temperamental machine I have had. One time….it engraves fine…..next project, maybe not at all which is followed by endless searches on the internet to find others with similar issues. Pop the SD card, turn the machine off and on and maybe you get lucky and it works. 2. The lens and cone cover needs constantly cleaned or it won’t work at all. Mine has had projects where it did not even make it through a relatively simple project without having to be cleaned. 3. Software: not good at all compared to other products. For the price you pay you would expect better software. 4. From my experience way overpriced for what I have received. The engraver I purchased for half the money was far easier to use and produced better results. 5. Service: I tried contacting customer service for questions and received a general response which was absolutely no help. Maybe I received a lemon…maybe not but my experience has been terrible. I have never left a negative review before but for the money spent this machine should work and be dependable. ... show more

Be sure you are Savy enough to learn operating system “Creative Space or LightBurn”. There is too operating instructions hard to find. You tube is full of information, but, you have to spend hours. Help desk is in China, 8 hrs time zone away. This is not an unpack, put together, and start production machine. I would consider another, but I’ll conquer this one and make it work. Update Jan 2024 Help desk did a nice job help me. They followed through and decided to send a replacement module. The system is working fine now. Setup was almost exactly like the original D1 10 Watt. I was excited about the limit switches and the flame detection. But after ruining my first projects by an over protective system, I turnoff the switches and lowered the sensitivity of the flame detector. I use lightburn exclusively and was able to cut out my Christmas projects twice the speed of my 10 watt. Very happy with my purchase. ... show more
