First of all, this device works well with my DJI Mavic Pro (older model). The Velcro band is long enough to go over the middle section of the drone. The device is responsive to the radio remote command from as far away as I can have it clearly in the line of sight. The transmitter uses an alkaline 9V battery, while the receiver unit has a built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery. On the downside, this device does obstruct airflow to the underbelly cooling fins on the drone, so it may not be a good idea to fly with this attached on a hot day, or for long distances. I did not experience any abnormal behavior, but I surely do not want to cause overheating of the control unit on the drone and cause a crash. Also, the added weight will force the motors to work harder, with no indication to you from the drone control that governs these motors. I can tell by the sound that the control unit compensates for the extra weight. As such, this will surely get the motors hotter, and at least inflict higher wear on them, at most induce a failure – again, this would result in a crash. There is no mention of the radio command using secure communication, this may be prone to radio interference and possibly malfunction. One big letdown are the instructions: the printed instructions have no mention of the controls on neither the transmitter nor the receiver / airborne device. Not a single word, not even how to turn on and off. Too bad for these instructions which are actually nicely printed, with color pictures and very easy to read. One of the pictures on the product page tells how to turn on and off the receiver, and how to adjust the “zero position” of the hook. Then you have to tinker a bit with the transmitter to find a slider button on the side that turns it on and off, and to learn that the two buttons, suggestively labelled “On” and “Off” are commanding the receiver hook to rotate 180 degrees in one direction and the opposite direction. One concern that I have with any rechargeable device is for the battery not to go dead: keeping a lithium-ion battery discharged shortens its lifespan, or may even kill it completely. The battery in this device seems to drain bellow usable level in about four weeks, with the device turned off. I don’t expect to use this so frequently as to charge it at least once per month. And there is no indication of the capacity left in the battery, or some signaling when it goes bellow a minimum threshold. This adds another task to my maintenance log, to check / charge this device monthly, or risk finding the battery dead when I want to use the device.

No instructions. Arrived dead. Tried to charge it but the receiver has ZERO indicators. No way of knowing if it is on or off or if the charge port is working. Instructions consist of one small folded piece of paper with 3 point text and minimal information. Avoid at all costs.

This gadget, which I am calling a grappling hook, but which the manufacturer calls an airdrop system is, indeed, much more suited for dropping than for grappling. I bought it in hopes of being able to grab and remove bird's nests from the roof of my two-story house, too high for me to get up onto. I have a DJI Mini 4K drone, one of the drones the device is supposed to be compatible with. It works more or less, but the DJI Mini 4K, which alone is extremely stable, becomes rather unstable with the grappling hook attached. It will sometimes climb, and sometimes descend, and sometimes move horizontally even when I am not touching the control sticks. I speculate that this is because the hook attaches to the drone with a strap around its middle which may throw it out of trim, and that the hook itself may confuse the drone's camera-based stabilization system. After several tries I had to give up trying to grab the nest with the hook. The best I could do was drop an old shoe on the nest in hopes that the birds will abandon the nest and go elsewhere. In fairness, they do call it an airdrop system and not a grappling hook. Still, lack of stability is an issue. The device basically works as advertised, but loses one star for making the drone unstable and therefore much harder to control. The grappling hook has a built-in rechargeable battery, but the remote uses a regular 9-volt battery. The remote also has confusing switches: The on-off switch has meaningless labels. (Up is On and Down is Off) and the controls for the hook say "ON" and "OFF" rather than "Open" and "Close" and this is also confusing. I've subtracted one star for the overall poor design of the remote. Overall I rate it acceptable. Three stars. It might work better with a bigger, more powerful drone.

Used to remotely trip a feral cat trap, which it works great with. The battery holds up well, lasting the day. We recharge every night. FYI, the trap is a kennel, with a small access. This remote holds up a wire panel that will cover the access when released.
