  • Strong, Tall, and Easy to Handle
OK. I'm thoroughly impressed. IMPORTANT: The Chinese knock-offs are not nearly as well made. This ladder is ANSI rated, while the others cite that they are EN131 (European Union) rated. The important point here is that a ladder that is EN131 rated is tested at exactly the rated weight, while a ladder that is ANSI rated must be tested at 4-times its rated weight. In other words, a ladder that is EN131 rated for 250 pounds was tested at no more than that weight. An ANSI rated ladder, like this one, that is rated at 250 pounds, was tested at 1,000 pounds. BIG Difference. Also, do not be fooled by claims that a ladder is both ANSI and EN131 rated. That is NOT POSSIBLE. They are mutually exclusive rating systems. Now, to get on with my review. I inspect motorhomes and RVs and have to climb on top of some very tall coaches. Even if the coach has a ladder, I use my own ladder, because some of those attached ladders can be of marginal reliability. I used to use a folding extendable Werner ladder Werner MT-26 300-Pound Duty Rating Telescoping Multi-Ladder, 26-Foot that would reach 13 feet, in its folded configuration. But it was ungainly to handle, took up a lot of space in my truck, and took a lot of time and trouble to put up and take down. Don't get me wrong. That Werner ladder a great ladder. But it's just not meant for being mobile. Enter the Xtend & Climb 785P. This thing is 15.5 feet in length, fully extended. That's a lot different that 15.5 feet in "reach". Many ladder manufacturers try to make their ladders seem taller than they actually are. When most manufacturers say that their ladder is 15.5 feet, you will notice the word "reach" included in the statement. So what that really means is that the ladder is 12.5 feet in length and that an average size person could "reach" 15.5 feet. That is not the case with the Xtend & Climb. 15.5 feet means actual length, so your reach should be about 18.5 feet. In short, this ladder is the longest ladder of its type. It's almost as heavy as my other ladder. But it's in a much smaller and more manageable size. That means that I can more easily lift it into the back of my truck and it takes up far less space. I weigh close to 200 pounds. But when this ladder is extended to its full length, I feel perfectly safe, even at a significant incline. There is no bounce or bend to it, as you reach the middle of your climb, as happens with lesser ladders. It's as solid as any ladder you could ask for. You can feel the difference between ladders that have been tested at 250 pounds and this one, that has been tested to 1,000 pounds. It's all the difference in the world. But the best part is how easy it is to put up and take down. If I didn't have to stop and attach some sliced pool noodles to the ladder, to protect the paint job on the coach, It would take less than 20 seconds. In fact, it takes longer to press the pool noodles into place than it takes to raise the ladder. Conclusion: Don't go the cheap route. This Xtend & Climb ladder is only a little more expensive than the knock-offs, but well worth the difference in price. ... show more

  • Great, sturdy ladder
We have a 12 1/2 foot high 5th wheel toy hauler travel trailer that doesn't have an attached ladder (because the back door has to fold down). This ladder is easy to use and is compact to carry in the trailer. It is a little heavier that I though it would be. If I had to buy another, I would probably buy the 12 foot version which would be lighter. I never need to fully extend the ladder to get on the roof or work on the side of the trailer. It is extremely sturdy. I haven't had any of the problems others have had with getting the latches to release and let each rung slide down. So long as you keep it level and stand it up straight, push both buttons at the same time, each section drops easily. You do have to be careful with the placement of your hands so you don't get pinched. But that is a user error not a problem with the ladder. ... show more

  • Used daily for 1 month - So far-so good.
Happy so far! Purchased for use in Home Inspection Business. This ladders has been used daily for about a month now for both roof access and interior attic access multiple times per day, hence the need for the professional version of this ladder. It does take a bit to get used to especially for interior attic access because of the height /range this ladder extends to. I've got a fairly consistent system of setting up the ladder for outside (roof access), and inside (attic access): Outside: I extend the top 3 rungs, then pull up 2 rungs at a time and make adjustments as needed from there. Inside: I leave the top 2 rungs collapsed and extend the 3rd rung, then every 2 rungs after that making adjustments as needed. For me, this allows a more even extension when the full height is not needed, and eliminating the big sections of ladder rungs grouped together requiring larger steps. However a word of caution here: The ladder is designed so that when it is fully extended and you collapse each rung/section from the top, that rung/section stops short to avoid pinching /smashing your fingers/hands. Since I extend two at a time, when collapsing this safety feature does not engage. Same goes if the ladder was fully extended, and there's not an easy way to start collapsing from the top. In this case, I start collapsing in the middle, and work my way up. The first section collapsed engages the safety feature, but each section/rung after that does not so you really have have to be aware of this as to not smash/pinch your fingers/hands. I also find that the last buttons/latches are harder to push simply because of the weight of the rest of the ladder resting on those buttons. Usually one will slide easier than the other and with that last button, I simply put my hand on the bottom side of the bottom rung and pull with my thumb rather than trying to push with my thumb from the outside. Much better on my back than an articulating ladder, fits pretty much anywhere, easier to get into the places that a ladder is needed for, easier attic access (you can walk right up into the attic if needed), so all-in-all, I am happy with this ladder. The only issue I've had is that the carry handle padding has already torn (see picture attached). For a professional product, I think there has to be a sturdier way to make this. For this and the safety quirks with lowering/collapsing the ladder I deducted one star. I'm considering a second purchase of the home model just for using inside attic access, but I'm a bit leery on the longevity of using on a daily basis. FWIW: My ladder does not show any red dots when collapsed like the image currently shown. Only green dots when extended and locked. The sections/rungs that are not used do not show either red or green. ... show more
