The wiring diagram in the manual is for a different winch setup and therefore confusing. Also, the installation kit is incomplete. However, the winch works great so far. Here is what you need to know: 1) The red and black solenoid wires go to the battery; the blue and yellow wires go to the winch. This part is self explanatory as the solenoid and winch are clearly marked, but the instruction manual gets it wrong. 2) Make sure to connect the short red wire from the switch to the ignition switch. It’s written in the manual but you really have to search for it and the wiring diagram confusing matters. Finally, the switch doesn’t have the necessary length of wire needed (at least it didn't for my application). 3) Remote control: hold both the in and out buttons on the remote for 5 seconds until you see the red light, otherwise you might assume the remote doesn’t work. See the stamped directions on the back of the remote. These last two issues led me to believe the winch or solenoid might be faulty and could have been easily avoided with a better instruction manual. Amazon makes reporting issues to the seller very easy. Seller responded to all questions promptly and eventually helped me get the switch installed correctly. I figured out the remote by pure luck of seeing the stamped instructions on the back. Overall, I like the winch but it doesn’t come installation ready. I found it difficult to locally find 6 gauge wire, terminal ends and butt connectors to extend the short blue and yellow wires. Finally, the manual talks about the requirement for a circuit breaker but according to the seller this winch doesn't require one, but also warned not to exceed the duty cycle of 5% (45 seconds of continuous operation at max capacity requires 14 min/ 15 sec. rest time--also not specified in the manual). Would I buy again? Yes, now that I know how to install it. But to get 5 stars it would need to have a much better installation manual with correct wiring diagram and wireless remote instructions, include longer blue and yellow wires, and a longer red wire for the switch. If using on an ATV, it might work without these, but that wasn't my application.

Im impressed with this little winch. I got the version with steel cable. I put it on a car hauler and it pulled my heavy X5 up the ramps and onto the trailer with no undue strain. The kit seems to be made of decent quality materials. I haven’t tried the wireless remote. I understand some people have issues with it but there’s a specific process to get it to work. The only issue I had was it has a small positive wire that must be connected to power in order for the winch to work. This wire is really short. I don’t feel like it deserves -1 star, but the manufacture could make this 3-5 ft long. Follow up: I bought 25’ of #2 wire and power pole connectors to make the installation portable. The winch has been through several west Texass mud storms (alternating brief showers and high winds) and still operates perfectly

Winch operates slowly, but seems to work fine. Biggest complaints are the size of the controller (huge) and all wires were far too short. I had to extent the switch red wire 24" and the switch to controller wires 18". Which means the normal 30 min install took 6 hours and additional parts. All the ATVs, tractors, and heavy equipment I own with winches I have never had this issue. Shop around.
