Started to rain, so I had to stop working the project. Converting our patio cover to an island hut. The product is extremely durable, flexible with nice grass coloring. This is made of some type of plastic but it looks very real. I got it for indoor use, and I expect it will last some time. It looks like it would hold up well to outdoor use also, but after its lifespan it's a lot of plastic in the landfill, and all those little strands could fall of and get into bodies of water and such. However, that's how it's described so I can't knock it for being plastic. I think it will be AWESOME for indoor use and easier to dust/clean than natural fibers. ... show more

The xlx Turf Synthetic Thatch Grass Roof is a great accent for my tiki lounge! It did have a pretty intense odor when it first arrived so it spent a few days airing out in the garage before install. And it lost a few, but not many, strands at first shake. In either case, I'd recommend opening the packaging outdoors. As far as appearance, the faux grass strands are relatively dense, and coverage is good. There is a slight sheen to the strands and they do not have any variation color or texture. So, while the thatch section is not the most realistic grass roof, it's certainly kitsch and fits the tiki-lounge brief. All that said, under bar/lounge lighting or in the evening most will hardly notice and will probably be loving your swank tiki aesthetic! ... show more

Dimensions listed are accurate. I ordered to determine feasibility of this product on an outdoor tiki hut roof where I will need to cover 400 square feet. The natural thatch up there now had just worn out. The appeal of this product was a longer life expectancy, flame retardant property, and the black backing which seemed to help with some amount of waterproofing - sort of a product and underlayment in one. Once hands on with it, I determined I wouldn’t want to use it. I did not like how the grass strands were shiny and quite artificial looking, although maybe they would dull in time out in the elements. The deal breaker for me was how light each strand is - they would blow out of position rather easily, exposing the black mat they are attached to. The strands lack weight and overall strand density would just not work. As you can see in photos I included, the grass strands are really meant to lay in just one direction. When holding the mat “upside down” (i.e. what a little wind might do) there is a lot of black mat exposed. The strands were well attached. There was very little shedding of strands or underlayment. I think this product is best suited for indoor use (or somewhere not in the wind) and where possible exposure of the black mat under it won’t ruin the look you are going for. My rating of 4 stars and not 5 is due to my opinion of online photos seeming to represent the grass as being substantially more dense than it really is. Otherwise, I still think this is above average in quality compared to others I have considered. ... show more
