This is exactly what I was (you are) looking for. Seems to be a solid cargo basket, except for the space between the metal extension and the front and back sections. I wouldn’t put any weight directly in the gap. The directions are very simple to follow, but I did use my own Allen tool since this came with a cheap Allen that stripped on the first bolt. Mind the 150 pound weight capacity of this cheaper version. If your car has factory installed roof mounts be aware that it probably isn’t far enough apart to give you the most perfect support. But it fit onto my RAV4 adventure almost perfectly. It looks great and Instead of buying one with a logo on it, I’ll be buying a sticker to put on the front that fits my style. I’ve attached some pictures for you to feel a little more comfortable about it. The most negative feedback I could give, is that it makes a ton of wind noise if you plan on keeping it on your daily driver. NOTE: For the wind deflector, make sure that you put the clips on the right side, and in the right direction. There are three for the bottom which are a larger diameter, and three for the top which are a smaller diameter. The directions don’t specify this and if you start screwing in you’ll have to take it all apart to fix it. To that point, make sure that the side of the clips with the holes are on the backside to hold the nut in place while you tighten the wind deflector down. See photos. ... show more

IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE CROSS BARS, DO NOT BUY THIS KIT 😡 I bought this kit because it said that it could attach without the cross bars. That was a lie. So now I have a useless basket until the cross bars show up. Which I needed the basket tomorrow. And now it’s a week waiting longer than I math’d for. ***EDITED TO ADD*** I’ve been using the roof rack for several weeks now. It’s very much worth buying crossbars to use it. Super sturdy and worth the purchase. Just wish they had been honest about the need for cross bars ... show more

We are SO happy we decided to purchase this roof rack. FYI: it does require crossbars, which I didn’t know when we purchased it. But! It’s so much larger than we had anticipated, and made our move out of state with the last dregs of our things so much easier. We fit a large 2’x4’ box, two standard coolers, and some other smaller boxes and bags up there, along with a 42” flat-folded dog crate. We did use a net over the top to secure everything, and a ratchet strap to keep the crate in place. It worked like a charm. The roof rack is ultra sturdy and easy to put together. My two complaints are that, while assembling the rack itself, we did have issues with one of the snap-on side plates not lining up re: holes for the screws. Several of the screw holes on the plates were slightly off, but not so badly that you couldn’t make the screws sink properly with some finagling. But the last plate I tried to put on, we could only get the bottom screw in, because the top hole was so off, there was no way to fit the screw properly. Secondly, affixing the clamps that keep the rack on the crossbars was insanely difficult, trying to manage the tiny washer and the clamp while screwing on the knobs. We got it on eventually, with a lot of swearing and rearranging of the ladder we were using to get up there. However, I will say, this puppy performed really well on our 9hr drive to our new place. It kept everything secure, didn’t bend from the weight, and was really wonderful to have. We will absolutely be enjoying this for trips for years to come! Five stars for quality and versatility, -1 stars for the difficulty of installation and screw hole issues. But! We would absolutely buy this again. ... show more

Bought this roof rack to mount the spare tire for my Jeep XJ. I was disappointed to find out I have to buy 2 more stock Jeep cross members before I can mount the roof rack to give me a total of 4 cross members, because they tell you not to space your cross-members more than 15 Inches apart, so for 64" I need at least 4 cross-members ! Disappointed to see how FLIMSY the metal is on the roof rack ! I'm sure I'm going to have to put a piece of ply wood under the spare tire to keep from breaking this flimsy thing ! ... show more

Don’t buy this roof rack!! I made sure to pay attention to product reviews before purchasing, and I’m not sure why more people aren’t talking about the HUGE defect with the roof rack. I spent 3 hours trying to put this together, adjusting it different ways, and eventually gave up. The screws do not fit in the holes and the side panels are too small.     • Two person assembly, but VERY sturdy.

We got this basket because with 4 kids, including 16 month old twins in monstrous car seats, we had very little cargo space left in our minivan. It was not particularly difficult to put together, but did take more than two hands. The directions while not particularly wordy, are sufficient to get the job done. It does take at least two people to get the fully assembled rack up on top of the car without tearing everything up. We have a minivan, so we did use the extension pieces. Attaching the basket to the cross bars wasn't difficult, but did require some measuring and planning. NOTE that you WILL need crossbars of some sort for your vehicle - this item is NOT supposed to sit directly on the roof of your car! I would suggest getting a bungee cargo net, or a rooftop bag to go in the basket. Overall, the basket has worked well for us and enabled us to do take enough luggage to go on a longer trip than we would have been able to otherwise. We are pleased with this purchase. ... show more
