I wanted something that would keep the razor blade safely contained in my baking drawer, and this does the trick nicely while making it easy to access the blade when you need it to slash your bread loaf. It'd be a nice stocking stuffer type gift if anyone you know is a bread baker.

Like other razor lames, it scores the dough quickly and cleanly. The blade retracts, so you don't need to remove it when not in use. The magnet on the back makes it convenient to store on your fridge or other appliance. The drawback for me is the double sided razor blade, on this or any other lame. It is too easy to injure yourself and quite frankly, blood is not one of the items I want as a finished coating on my breads. If you like the double sided razor lames, then you may be happy with this one. But, it's not for me.

My niece, who is a baker, recommended this kind of a lame that you can grip closely. While I get the concept, having to hold it pushed up (out) while also trying to have a steady hand takes work. The razors also wear very quickly and that tiny spring is so hard to get back in place when swapping blades. For the price, this is worth it.
