It would have been nice if the console shipped with instructions. Update: Seller quickly sent a pdf of the instructions and now I can navigate through the system without frustration. Overall, there are an abundance of games to choose from and the system performs very well.

    • stay far away. If sd card goes bad nothing works!
If your lights flicker or anything electrical, it will shut the system down and then the sd card acts like nothings on it. They need to build the program onto internal memory that doesn't do this!! Needs a backup at all times!

Like many of the retro home consoles you'll find in this category, the X9 runs on the EmuElec/RetroArch platform. According to the "All Games" menu on the main screen, there are total of 29,896 titles included with all the various systems emulated. That's a pretty hefty selection to start with. Even better, it seems there aren't many repeat/duplicate games when I conduct a search on any given title. The Kinhank Super X Pro has nearly 117,000 titles included, but there's a massive number of duplicates figured into that number. This system appears to have a very impressive array of games and platforms available. I was especially impressed by the inclusion of the Sega Saturn. Although it only has nine games available, it was still the first time I've seen that console emulated on any plug-in retro gaming rig. There's also a 3DO emulator which is a rare find. Here's a partial list of the consoles/platforms available, with the number of included titles in parentheses: Arcade classics/MAME (1781) Atari 2600 (693) Atari 800 (4710) Atari 5200 (73) Atari 7800 (121) Atari Lynx (103) Capcom CPS 1&2 (79) Commodore 64 (5327) MSX2 (82) Nintendo NES (3360) Nintendo Gameboy (75) Nintendo Gameboy Color (535) Nintendo Gameboy Advance (2121) Nintendo DS (298) 3DO (13) Sega Master System (265) Sega Game Gear (378) Sega Mega Drive (966) Sega Saturn (9) Sony Playstation (58) Sony PSP (152) Keep in mind that the Atari 800 and Commodore 64 comprise over 10,000 titles alone. Many of those games may be difficult or even impossible play to with a simple gamepad. Both of those systems were actually home computers from the early 1980s, and they required a special keyboard to run properly. That notwithstanding, this console provides an insane number of retro video games to enjoy. To my surprise, both the Saturn and Naomi emulations were rendered quite smoothly. I also had great success with the Nintendo 64 emulator, which can be jittery and sluggish on other similar retro game machines. Unfortunately, the PSP section was hit-and-miss. I was able to play Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories without any lag, but several other titles on the PSP suffered from resource issues. The controllers are basic stock joypads. They work okay. One thing I found interesting about the X9 is it's LED-colored fan port. There's actually a fan cooling the chip housing on this console, and it is accented with LED lights that change color. Visually, it is pretty to look at it. I did find the fan to be a bit on the noisy side, however. It's not a big deal, but you will want to power this thing down when you're not playing it. The fan runs constantly -- even when the system is at idle. I'm giving this system five stars. It has a nice interface, an abundant selection of games, and most importantly, the games seem to play very well with only a few exceptions.
