  • Decent as is, could be improved with new firmare.
Size: X70 Style: Fluorescent Yellow
Right out the gate, I can tell you this is the Powkiddy X70. Why they don't call it this, or mention it anywhere in the listing, or in the box itself is curious. The device is super light, but doesn't feel flimsy or cheap. It also came with a screen protector pre-installed, which is a nice touch, however if the second included screen protector is any indicator, it's only to prevent scratches and will not hold up to any blunt force at all. So be careful with the screen. Speaking of, the screen itself has terrible viewing angles, but if you look at it straight on it looks good enough. Sound seems good on all the games I tested, but do note that mine came with the volume on max and it's LOUD. So turn the volume down from the main menu before going into any games. All the systems/games I tried worked well enough for a device in this price range, which is nice. What not nice is that the aspect ratio is locked at 16:9 with no way to change it. For PlayStation games, this isn't too big of a deal, most of them look fine like this. But for most of the systems included, I'm not a fan of the look. It would be easy to fix and it would actually make the games run better, so it's odd that there's not at least an option for it. I feel like a firmware update, or even a custom firmware at some point in the future could improve a lot of small things about this device, but as is it still makes a fun little system to play retro games on. Three stars seems too low, and four seems too high, all things (mainly price) considered, but I'll give it a low four as it stands right here and now. Hopefully it can be improved in the future. ... show more

  • 5k 8-bit games, decent console, bad instructions
Size: X70 Style: Green Blue
This gaming console contains over 5,000 old 8-bit/16-bit arcade games so you do get quantity. As for the hardware, the plastic casing feels of a decent quality. The screen is a good size with good backlighting. The controls are responsive. The unit as a whole is not very heavy, so easy to hold for long periods while playing. I wouldn’t trust it not to break from a serious drop or misuse. The software is what it is — old arcade games from the ‘80s and ‘90s. Some of the games are better than others and you’re pretty much on your own to figure out the gameplay. Couldn’t expect them to include instruction manuals for over 5,000 games, though! I did find one file that was corrupted — Home Run World Series — so there may be more. I did try a handful and all of the others worked fine. The instructions leave a lot to be desired. It seemed like they wanted me to do something with a protective screen cover. I was supposed to take off the protective screen that it shipped with and replace it with one that was in the package, but the new one was too small and didn’t adhere. At least that’s what I think they wanted me to do. Basically plan on figuring it all out on your own because the translations don’t always make sense. I did not test the memory expansion. Overall, seems like a decent product if you’re nostalgic for those old games and don’t mind spending $80 for the handheld experience. ... show more

  • Decent gaming handheld with some issues
Size: X70 Style: Fluorescent Yellow
On the plus side: This is a pretty handy package with a screen, control pad, and emulator all in one. It's definitely intended to be similar in form factor to a switch, but the controllers don't come loose from the main unit. Great to see a bunch of old games I haven't been able to play for a long time. It supports external mini-USB controllers (not included) and connecting to a TV with a cable (not included). A sleeve and a spare screen protector are included. The games are mostly emulated arcade games and old game systems. It's got thousands of games, but there are also quite a few duplicates or regional variations for games. Battery life is sufficient, and it charges relatively quickly via USB-C. The screen is not that bright but is suitable for indoor use. Some complaints: 1. I haven't found a way to adjust games to not fill out the whole screen. Because the aspect ratio of the screen is so wide, it ends up stretching things out horizontally which can look pretty bad depending on the original aspect ratio of the game you are playing. Some are outright comical. 2. The screen isn't a touch screen, which means doing game searches requires some pretty time-consuming, controller-based text entry which isn't much fun. Definitely favorite the games you play the most. 3. The controls for the menu system aren't very intuitive, but after messing around with it for a bit you can figure them out. ... show more

  • Cute idea
Size: X70 Style: Green Blue
So i got this on a complete whim for a little nostalgia. Yes the title said 5800 games, but you can't really wrap your head around that until you are scrolling through hundreds and hundreds of games titles. The main screen lists ALL of the games, organized by the type of console/arcade the game exists in. There is a search function, but it doesn't work right, it's not finding a lot of games based on the search string entered. You can also lookup the games by the arcade or console type, though there are no labels in the search, so for me, not being familiar with the controllers for each system it was useless. There are also some spelling errors in the display, but they do not detract. I spent way too much time in this thing already, and so will you if you played arcades or consoles in the 80s and 90s. ... show more

  • Annoying to operate, but works once you get it going
Size: X70 Style: Fluorescent Yellow
The system itself is very nice. The unit doesn't feel too cheap and is relatively pleasant to hold in my hands. The games catalog is EXTENSIVE. Its actually overwhelming (in a good way). The problem is the UI to GET to the games...its trash. In fact, its infuriating at times. Search is questionable, and the menu system is clunky AT BEST. My biggest annoyance though, which is unforgivable, is that I can’t change the VOLUME without suspending the game I'm playing and dropping out into the crap menu system. What a joke. Come back to this once they iron out all the weird bugs in the base system. ... show more

  • Overall it’s fun for my 8 and 10 year old.
Size: X70 Style: Green Blue
The quality of this game console itself is good, and it also comes with a screen protector. The only problem is that there are way too many games, many of the games are very boring. You need to organize and download them yourself.
