  • A Budget Knife Set From An Excellent Company
First off I gave these a 5 star rating not because they are the best knives ever but because they are really nice knives for the category they are competing in which is budget knives. Ok, that being said I was surprised how relatively light these knives are which reduces fatigue while using but also requires the person to exert a bit more effort as the weight of the knife doesn’t do any or the work. The handles are very comfortable and are in the traditional German kitchen knife pattern. Where Wusthof saves production costs on these knives is in the blade. These are not forged blades and are only hardened to 56 Rockwell, meaning that they will be quicker to dull but also easier to sharpen, but they are a bit softer than Wusthof’s forged blades at 58. They are not full tang, call it full 1/2 tang I guess as it extends the full length of the handle but only 50% of the handle height. The blade metal and the tang type contribute to the lower weight I would think. The Chef’s knife has a bit more of a belly than I am used to with the taper up to the tip pretty assertive, this is neither good or bad but is better for those who like to use rocking motions when cutting rather than slicing motions. Out of the package the knives are reasonably sharp but a quick turn on my honing steel really helped. They would work out of the package of course, they were not dull by any means, but the edge can be improved easily with a steel. All in all for their intended purpose, a starter knife set for a reasonable price, these are a very nice set of knives that have a good warranty and come from a well regarded manufacturer. They are made in Solingen Germany (To be labeled “Made in Solingen,” a knife must be manufactured in Solingen and meet specific criteria relating to material quality, manufacturing processes, and overall finish. Wusthof has consistently upheld these standards, ensuring the enduring quality that customers expect.) which will be a selling point for many vs. some of the Asian knives that are available and you can be assured of getting a quality knife for the price. ... show more

  • Set of Three Quality Knives
This set of three Wusthof knives is very high quality, like all Wusthof products. I have used Wusthof knives for years. They are great for someone who spends a lot of time cutting vegetables. I am vegan, and I am always cutting one vegetable or another. This set of knives is perfect because it meets all my needs as I am sure it would for most home cooks. The set includes: an 8" Chef's Knife, a 7" Santoku, and a 3" Spear Point Paring Knife. With this set, I really don’t need anything else. These knives have high-carbon stainless-steel blades. The set comes with a limited lifetime warranty. The handles are comfortable to hold. The knives are easy to clean by hand. The blades are extremely sharp, and the knives are very durable. They will last for years and years. I recommend this set of knives very highly. Although the set is not inexpensive, it is an incredible deal considering that you get three Wusthof knives for the price. ... show more

  • Lightweight and sharp
At first I was concerned because these were much lighter weight than my existing knife set - the Chef's knife was about 180g whereas my existing one was about 280g. The handle definitely has a more plastic feel which is maybe why it's lightweight. The blade does seem to extend into the handle shaft. I tested the santoku on scallions and it cut them much better than my old set. The paring knife is a little small, but cut through my salad greens and veggies nicely. ... show more

  • Good trio
This set of three knives has a nice look, with grey handles instead of black like our others of this brand. While they don’t have a full tang, they do have nice heft and good weight. We use them often, and they stay sharp for a good while and cut cleanly. The set is a nice selection for small items, larger cuts, and meat. ... show more

  • Expensive yes, but well worth it.
Over many years, I've been the chief cook for our family and, as I've aged, I've actually made a point of keeping fewer utensils and pots and pans around the house, while moving toward much higher quality items. Quite simply, the make better foods and many of these choices also are kind to my hands and wrists. That's especially true of WÜSTHOF knives. My adult son introduced me to this brand and, because of the expense, I've been adding and replacing old knives a couple per year. Then, via the Vine program, I was sent this trio-set to review. And I've got to say: If you're interested in a WÜSTHOF starter set, this is ideal. These three knives span a lot of uses in the kitchen. I'm obviously biased but I cook daily and WÜSTHOF now is my "go to" choice when I reach for a knife. ... show more
