I use Wusthof Classic knives for cooking every day, and they stay scary-sharp with just regular honing. Still, I was nervous about purchasing the Ikon steak knife set because the price is a splurge for me. However, after using them, I’m finding they’re every bit as fine as I hoped. The contoured handles feel smooth and comfortable, and look slender and elegant. The knives perform as expected, effortlessly cutting papery-thin slices of cooked meat. The black presentation box is lightweight wood, with magnetic closure. It doesn’t feel sturdy, but I think it looks good, and it will do for my purpose (to store the knives in a drawer)—I’m satisfied with the added cost to have it. The knives were packaged outside the presentation box, with cardboard sheaths on the blades, in individual plastic bags, and rolled together in paper. We purchased a smaller set of chefs and utility knives plus this set to be placed in an in drawer block we already had to keep clutter on the counters minimal. These came out of the box OFFFENSIVELY sharp and I like the overall fit and finish quite well. Wouldn't recommend using them on glass or ceramic cutting boards or surfaces but that holds true of all cutlery no matter what the quality, it dulls them faster and with these being so sharp out of the box the edges are very fine.
