Very good diffuser. Highly recommend! Must buy if you own a shop vac.
WOW, this diffuser is great! No more blowing of air every where anymore. It fits my New Dewalt shop vac very nicely and tight. I didn’t have to use the extra added piece so it doesn’t stick out far at all. It looks nice and does reduce the noise a bit. The shop vac motor works the exact same peak performance with it on or off. This thing is made very well especially for the price that I paid. Highly recommend!! Must buy!!

I bought this based on a review I read that it might quiet down my shop vac, and also filter a little more dust. The filtration is about as expected, not as much noise muffling as I was hoping for.

Works great for the wind, not sure about sound
I mean, maybe it's a little quieter? But the main thing is that the wind doesn't blow 100 mph out the back anymore. Just on a standard Ridgid HD shop vac, works great.

Doesn't muffle sound but diffuses perfectly..
This vendor and others who sell similar products should reconsider their advertising. This and similar products are not mufflers, they are diffusers. They will not 'turn down the volume' so to speak, at least not noticeably. If you want a nearly silent shop vac, you'll have to place it in an enclosure designed for the purpose of noise reduction. As a diffuser, this works very well. My shop vacs exhaust went from a directed gale strength blast to a harmless emission without noticeably sacrificing power. Without a diffuser, the exhaust from my vac is powerful enough to create a mess if unintentionally aimed at an area with sawdust, dust and debris. The filter can be easily removed for cleaning. My only gripe is that with the adapter attached, it protrudes further than I'd like but not enough so to cause problems. Good product and works well for *diffusing* the exhaust.

Not impressed. I guess it does what it's supposed to, making this a difficult rating, but I've been using a much more economical (and greener) alternative for years that works just as good: a sock. A few years ago I put one of my son's cotton socks on the end of my wet/dry vac air exhaust and it worked just as good as this does as far as I can tell. It's a small sock (he was 5), and I rolled the end of it a bit so it would fit without sliding off. I'd imagine one could use any sized sock and a zip tie to secure it on the end of their vacuum and it would work just the same. My cheap solution worked well, but I thought this (as a product intended specifically for this purpose) might work better, so I took the plunge before starting a new home renovation project. I was wrong. After switching multiple times between the two to compare, I actually think the sock might work better. I haven't noticed any decrease in suction over the years with the sock on vs. off. I did notice a slight reduction in sound, even compared to the sock, but not enough to make it worth the purchase by any means. The sound of the vacuum motor far exceeds the sound of air going through the output, regardless of covering it. I am going to see if I can return this, but am worried the shipping costs for return might not be worth it. I'm even more sad that I bought it because it doesn't have the cool factor of my son's sock. He liked that I used one of his socks for it, and I grew to like the funkiness of it as well.

It makes a difference
What a difference. I wish I’d known about this little device 20 years ago. It really makes a huge impact not having jet exhaust blowing stuff all over the place. It reduces noise, dust and just makes the job less difficult. It fits perfectly on my 20 gallon rigid vac and seems well built. I now use this in conjunction with a quality shop vac bag, hepa filter and filter cover. Protect your lungs.
