I really wasn't sure the plastic blast gates would be any good. I started with the crappy black plastic ones and replaced them with metal. The metal ones didn't fall apart like the black ones but they leaked bad and were noisy. Based on the good reviews I decided to try the Powertec orange blast gates and after a few weeks I'm happy to report they work great and it appears they will last a long time. The best part is they seal good. No air leaks, no whistling sounds, whether they are open or closed. They work like they should. I have them on a drum sander, belt sander, jointer/planer, and bandsaw. So I have fine dust and chips and neither seem to cause any clogging issues. I plan to replace all my other 4" blast gates with these. Highly recommend. ... show more

    • When you need a small, light secondary gate

This might be my favorite 2.5" gate for where I can't use or don't want a gate that connects to a wall. In certain places I want to have multiple gates without a lot of weight. For example, in the dust collection on the router table I have dust collection below the table, and in a fence, and in a movable hose. I want to be able to turn off the items I'm not using individually beyond the main dust gate for the whole table. Nearly any other gate, even plastic ones, will be awkward in the fence and hose. This gate is so light it it doesn't significantly pull on the hose and the flap doesn't get in the way when on the hose or fence. Any other gate that's even close in size is going to clog badly in comparison, while this gate has a design which is tough to clog. Any good 2.5" anti-clog gates are going to gave the flap come out both sides and take up a ton of space. I don't think it's for everything. I don't use them as primary gates, just as sub-gates attached to the main gate for a tool/area. My setup is more complicated, and if I had to I would trust them more than many other standard 2.5" gates. ... show more

So these are great, but the plastic needs roughed up so the clamped hose will stay on. They do self clear, and close Everytime with no failure after a year.
