Product is not quite as heavy duty as what I saw in our local store but is a great value for what I paid. The assembly was pretty simple using your own rubber mallet. I'd have no issue placing about 200lbs on each shelf (tops) but I would attach the shelf to a wall so it couldn't be pulled down. I like the open steal rod shelving. Others I looked at had particle board which is heavy and would swell if it got wet. You can always put your own piece of wood on the metal shelf if needed. ... show more

The Workpro 5 tier metal shelving unit arrived in perfect condition and was easy to assemble by this senior citizen. It's sturdy and I like the 24 inch depth. However, I opted for the wire shelves with the expectation that I could get a shelf liner/particle board to put on top of the wire top shelf so it could be used as a work surface. (I wanted to be able to put my miter saw on it, but needed the wire shelf under the board to help distribute the weight so the board would not warp.) The photos of the product did not show the details - specifically the 2 extra 24 inch cross wires in the center and top of the shelf. Anything with a flat bottom (such as a board, a shelf liner, or a box) can not sit flat on the shelf because of the raised center portion. When split into 2 units, the difference in the shelf heights is 3/16 inch - just enough to make items wobble if they span that area. Also, when split into 2 units, there are no post feet for the second unit. These shelves will be great for storage of light weight items, but I had expected more. ... show more

I will admit while I was assembling these shelves I was a bit apprehensive that they would be wobbly and weak, but once it was put together I am quite pleased. They are sturdy and yet light weight enough for a little woman to assemble and scoot around the garage.
