Description

USA Today Bestseller! An Amazon's Best Romances of August! One of the New York Public Library's Best Books of 2023! She has a to-do list a mile long and falling for her coworker isn't on it—yet somehow he’s become her top priority in this romantic comedy from the national bestselling author of Love in the Time of Serial Killers. Lauren Fox is the bookkeeper for Cold World, a tourist destination that's always a winter wonderland despite being located in humid Orlando, Florida. Sure, it’s ranked way below any of the trademarked amusement parks and maybe foot traffic could be better. But it’s a fun place to work, even if “fun” isn’t exactly Lauren’s middle name. Her coworker Asa Williamson, on the other hand, is all about finding ways to enliven his days at Cold World—whether that means organizing the Secret Santa or teasing Lauren. When the owner asks Lauren and Asa to propose something (anything, really) to raise more revenue, their rivalry heats up as they compete to come up with the best idea. But the situation is more dire than they thought, and it might take these polar opposites working together to save the day. If Asa thought Lauren didn't know how to enjoy herself, he's surprised by how much he enjoys spending time together. And if Lauren thought Asa wasn't serious about anything, she's surprised by how seriously he seems to take her. As Lauren and Asa work to save their beloved wintery spot, they realize the real attraction might be the heat generating between them. Read more

  • Opposites Attract
This was everything I wanted it to be, and definitely builds on the style and tone of Alicia’s first novel. With Love From Cold World is the sweet story of two people who feel alone in a crowded room finding the person who makes them feel seen. Both Asa and Lauren are hiding their hurt behind walls - Asa is the flippant life of the party and Lauren is the all-business worker bee. It starts with them sniping at each other until a night trapped in Cold World reminds them to see each other as people, and they start to fall hard and fast. While there’s a lot of miscommunication, they are unaware of it. Both come from backgrounds that never taught them healthy communication and they are both so protective and defensive of their own well-being that it’s hard to let the walls down and give anyone the chance to hurt them. The banter is witty and funny, between both the leads and the secondary characters, Cold World itself has sweet nostalgia vibes, and the confrontations with each lead’s antagonist will make you feel a sense of justice and completion. There are no threads left hanging at the end, and it makes you feel really positive about their longevity in the future. Asa is bisexual and it is openly talked about, and Lauren is quick to correct anyone who denies his identity because he’s with a woman. He has a traumatic coming out story but there is a hopeful end note to that plot line. Asa is worth swooning over - every time he couldn’t hold in how he felt or what he wanted from Lauren was pure romance. With Love From Cold World is sweet and full of heart, with two characters who grow together and learn they can trust someone else with their most vulnerable parts. ... show more

  • Workplace-grumpy /sunshine romance
Not so patiently waited for this one, and it did not disappoint. Workplace romance at a Florida attraction called Cold World. Asa is the resident Christmas and all things Cold World expert. He has been working there since he was 18 and kicked out of his parents' house. Lauren is the introverted bookkeeper and a bit newer to Cold World. Grumpy sunshine meets, and they do not get along well, Asa likes to push Lauren's buttons and can not figure out why she doesn't like him or for the life of him why she is interested in the owners snooty self absorbed son Daniel. Lots of secondary fun characters. Good moments of lightheartedness, a few spicy moments, and lots of sweet moments to bring these two together. Big fan of AT writing style ... show more

  • Great for bisexual representation and workplace romance
This is a sweet novel that absolutely hits the spot if you're looking for an enemies-to-lovers trope. This book is also unique in that one of the protagonists is bisexual. The novel gets along in the same comfortable formulaic way, but what really annoyed me was how once they are in their relationship, all of their other life problems are magically solved into a Happy Ending. The banter and conversation of the secondary characters also felt exhausting, and after a point, I just wanted the characters not to sound like each other after a while. ... show more

  • Amazing chemistry, heartwarming story
Soo sweet, amazing chemistry that had me 🥵 The first kiss scene had me GASPING. Alicia Thompson pulled off enemies to lovers so well, and her writing style is addicting. Depth to the story, excellent scenery descriptions that make you feel like you can see, hear, smell the world of the story. Lovable characters all around. 👏 👏 👏 ... show more

  • Great read!
The best part of this novel is how much Alicia Thompson’s intelligence and wit comes through. I love this fun and quirky romance and the setting is so well done and immediately immerses you into the story. I flew through the book, staying up late to finish and can’t wait to see what Alicia writes next! ... show more

  • TAKE ME TO COLD WORLD
words cannot express just how much i loved this book—it took me by surprise. obviously i enjoyed this author’s love in the time of serial killers but this book stole my heart and didn’t give it back. i loved asa and lauren so much. seeing how their trauma shaped their perspectives and seeing them help each other go through made my heart full, you know? even though i didn’t have the same childhood experiences with them but they resonated with a lot. i’m so happy they found each other. may they live happily ever after! ... show more

  • Working at the coolest place on earth isn’t very cool when romance is involved…
Working at the coolest place on earth isn’t very cool when romance is involved… With Love, from Cold World by Alicia Thompson is a workplace romantic comedy in the vein of Waiting or clerks if they were romantic comedies… Cold World isn’t quite a theme park or a tourist trap…but it is a destination for those who like ice themed excursions when in the great Orlando area… Lauren never really thought much about her job, but a possibly romance has her rethinking some things…as she navigates the troubles of family gatherings, promotion competiion, annoying employee traditions, and the fact she’s working for a struggling entertainment spot…to get closer to the hot guy she’s suddenly developed an attraction to… While I didn’t like this as much as love in the time of serial killers, it was still pretty good (essentially replacing a lot of true crime references with snow and Christmas references) while also having a lot more characters in the form of coworkers and management. One downside is that other than the big Snow Globe installation and mention of an arts market style street fair, I didn’t get a big sense of what else you could do at Cold World…but that’s not actually too important since you are reading a book like this for the cheesy romance and comedic situations… ... show more
