  • Very capable add-on system for cars without nav/camera systems
Style: 9 Inch Wireless Carplay with 2.5K +1080P
The media could not be loaded. This is a review of my new in-car Apple Carplay and Android Auto Dash Cam/Backup Cam system. It’s listed on Amazon as: HOTPEAK 9 Inch Portable Wireless Car Stereo with Apple Carplay & Android Auto,2.5K Dash Cam & 1080p Backup Camera,Car Audio Receivers with GPS Navigation,Bluetooth,Mirror Link for All Vehicles. This unit is intended to be an add-on system for older vehicles which do not have, or don’t have decent, navigation and parking camera systems, to add those capabilities. It comes with a couple of different mounting systems to allow it to be fitted to just about any car, with one bracket that adheres to the dashboard with a 3M-type adhesive pad, and another one that will attach to the windshield (or any non-porous flat surface.) The screen unit 5-1/2” x 9”, (10” measured diagonally, though the actual lit portion of the screen is 9” inside the bezel). This means you have a fairly compact, yet easily viewable unit that will work in any car where you can safely mount it. Installation is pretty simple, for what turns out to be a pretty sophisticated device. Of course, you will have some decisions to make as to how things fit best in your car, but the installation is pretty flexible due to the long cords and well-designed brackets provided. There is a thick instruction booklet in several languages, and there’s a QR code in the provided instructions (and on the display screen protective sticker) to access videos on YouTube for installing it. This code takes you to a long list of videos which will take you through the process. They cover several different similar models of dashcams. Though none of them match this model exactly, they’ll get you there. First you need to find a suitable place to mount the screen unit. This will depend completely on your car, but with the nice sturdy adjustable brackets provided, you shouldn’t have trouble finding a good location. Then you plug the provided power adapter into the 12v DC power port (cigarette lighter-style). That plugs into the left side of the display. The front dashcam camera is permanently mounted to the front side of the display, but it is adjustable up or down about an inch so you can get a good field of view for the camera. The included rear view camera is pre-wired to a long cable harness that connects from the camera to another small jack on the left side of the unit. (Installation of this rear camera is optional, and the rest of the system will work without it being installed if you choose not to do it, or to do it later.) It also has a cable that you can connect to the back up light circuit so the rear camera will come on automatically when you shift into Reverse. Otherwise, you can select that view manually from the display unit. The rear camera harness has a disconnect to make it easy to pull the wire through small holes to keep it out of the way. The rear camera itself is mounted on a small adjustable bracket to allow aiming the device. The display on the unit gives you backup guidance bars with red/yellow/green markings to help you judge distance when backing up. These bars can be calibrated during setup to match the view from your car and your preference. Once the rear camera is mounted and the plug connected to the display, you can turn on the unit and start the setup process, where you connect it via Bluetooth to your phone. It says it works with both iPhone (iOS) and Android, but I only tried it with Android, where it worked just fine. Once paired with the phone, the display gives you a menu of choices as to what mode you want. It will start Android Auto (or Apple CarPlay), and use any of the compatible apps on your phone, including navigation, podcast players, and other apps that run in those master programs. In my case, once installed, and when Android Auto is selected from the main menu, this system works exactly like the hard-wired system that came in my newer Hyundai. The display is light-sensitive, so you can set the brightness you want, and it automatically goes to night mode when appropriate. If you want to use audio from your phone, the system can transmit the audio to the car via the FM radio. You select the desired frequency via setup on the display. The unit also contains a speaker of its own, and there is an AUX cable provided to connect another audio source to play. You can manually start recording for the dashcam functions with a button that shows on the right side of the display. You can record video and take photos through the cams with the menu buttons on the display screen in the DVR mode. Recordings and photos are stored on a MicroSD card (which comes with the unit) and is in a slot on the left side of the display. The card can be removed, and recordings transferred to any computer with a MicroSD card reader. There is an automatic collision sensor (G-sensor) that automatically locks the last recording made to keep you from inadvertently deleting the recording of a crash. You can also manage the recordings via the DVR function on the main menu. This allows you to play back videos on the display screen. These functions are described in the instruction booklet. If you have an older car without either navigation or camera functionality, this system would be a great addition to your car. Or if you have a system where either of these functions is inoperative, the same will be true for you. It’s a pretty straightforward installation, using it is also simple, and it seems to work very well. It should be doable by anyone with a modicum of mechanical skills, and could certainly be installed by a professional if you need to have that done. My wife’s 13 year old car has a built-in nav system which we both hate, and which is very expensive and cumbersome to update, and this will be taking the place of that. (An update for her old system costs several times the price of this entire system.) Android Auto provides a good way to use Google Maps and I may actually get her to start using it! For those with Apple phones, the Apple CarPlay functions should closely duplicate the ones I’ve described for Google users. Pros: Straightforward installation Includes all hardware needed Reasonable price High-resolution cameras (1024x600) Choice in mounting brackets Choice of languages Cons: Wired rear camera (vs. wireless) Could be difficult to find mounting location in some cars No automatic power off if cigarette lighter power is not switched by ignition Requires iOS or Android phone to work (Google phone ver. 8 or newer, others ver. 11 or newer) FM sound transfer can be problematic in some areas (frequencies are crowded) No provided hard-wire power harness (Lighter plug can be modified if needed, but FM transmit function will be lost) ... show more

  • Best Carplay adapter ever, built-in front camera, microSD card recording, backup camera, easy to use
Style: 9 Inch Wireless Carplay with 4K +1080P
The media could not be loaded. This is a 9" wireless car stereo adapter with Apple Carplay & Android. It has many features that usually require a separate setup, like the 4K dash cam. In addition, there is a backup camera with 1080p resolution that can be connected to the back of the car. It took me about 40 minutes to run the cable from the dash to the back hatch. The package has mounting hardware for the camera and a tool to remove the liner in the car to push the wire underneath the different parts. The CarPlay adapter allows full control of all the features of my iPhone, ike calling, navigation and control of my playlist. Works great without having to pull out my phone. A nice feature of the backup camera is that the display has adjustable guide lines. Even though my camera was not mounted in the middle of the car, I was able to use a stick on the ground to perfectly adjust the digital guidelines with my car's dimensions. The Carplay adapter works by Bluetooth with your iPhone or Android phone and can transmit the audio signal to your car either with an included AUX cable or via FM radio sender that is built-in. Just pick a radio channel that is not used and you can listen to your music list via your car radio. Great feature. The dash cam and backup cam video signal is automatically being recorded to the microSD card that was included in the package. Very happy with the product. ... show more

  • Great video resolution. Works as expected
Style: 9 Inch Wireless Carplay with 4K +1080P
The product has 4k front dash cam resolution. It can be used for both Carplay and Airplay. The default audio output is through the dash cam’s speaker. To get audio through car stereo system, you need to connect your phone through Bluetooth to your car. With Airplay, you can only get audio through the dash cam’s speaker. It would be better if we can get audio from car speaker instead ... show more

  • Very nice upgrade
Style: 9 Inch Wireless Carplay with 2.5K +1080P
I had a different version of this device (which I reviewed a while ago) but I really wanted the front camera feature of this device. It records in a loop, overwriting the oldest videos, but should it detect something like a collision, it will lock the video from being overwritten. It also has nigh-vision to record in the dark. In addition, I like that this device has a much simpler setup hardware when you don't want to use the windshield attachment. You can just attach it to the dashboard with a 3M adhesive template. It has a ton of new features/settings which I've not had a chance to try out yet. But I do like that the on/off switch is now at the top of the device rather than on the side. Overall I am very pleased with having upgraded to this device as it is a complete solution to making an old car like mine keep up with all the modern technology features. It works for both iPhone and Android. Speaking of older cars, when it comes to audio, you may not have an AUX connection and the FM setup may not be the best solution (the signal sometimes is lost or there is interference noise). In my case, and I'm surprised it hasn't been suggested in the manual or in the amazon posting, I used a cassette adaptor (around $5) which plugs directly into the AUX output of the device. The sound is great! ... show more

  • Impressive upgrade... Excellent screen, camera and integration E.g. Android Auto
Style: 9 Inch Wireless Carplay with 4K +1080P
Massive upgrade to my van. Android Auto on the large touch screen is really nice. Switches to reverse mode automatically and the guide lines are customizable just to your liking. I had a reverse camera in my cargo van before, however this screen is a massive upgrade. So crisp and clear on the reverse camera. Easy to configure to your liking. Great with or without carplay/android auto and easy to switch between. Lots of audio options aswell and how you prefer to bridge to car audio etc. Bluetooth, audio cable et The Android Auto integration is via Bluetooth, which switches to wifi automatically. ... show more
