  • Outstanding Outdoor OTA Antenna for Hi-VHF and UHF
Style: 45 Mile Range Pattern Name: Antenna
After moving into a new house, we decided we'd cut the cord and not get cable TV. I purchased an indoor OTA antenna so we could still watch live TV in addition to streaming services. I received about 12 channels, with 3 of them having spotty reception. This was not acceptable, so I started researching outdoor OTA antennas. I used TVFool, AntennaWeb, and AntennaPoint to help me determine distance of the broadcast stations, direction, and frequency of the broadcasts. After determining that I needed reception for Hi-VHF and UHF, I decided that this antenna (HD7694P) would provide the best reception for the stations I wanted to receive. The antenna is lightweight and was very easy to mount with the included mounting hardware. I used an app called Digital TV Antennas on my Android smartphone to make sure I was pointing my antenna in the right direction. The antenna also includes a weather boot to protect the coax connector from the elements. I also ordered and installed this Pre-Amplifier, which was equally as easy to install Winegard LNA-200 Boost XT Digital HDTV Preamplifier. I now receive more than 25 crystal clear stations, with no reception issues. I highly recommend that you ground both your mount and your incoming coax. I attached a ground pipe clamp like this one Halex 36010 1/2-Inch To 1-Inch Solid Brass Grounding Clamp to ground my antenna/mount. I ran a 10 gauge solid ground cable from the ground pipe clamp to this ground block CableWholesale Single, 2.5GHz F-Pin (Coax) Grounding Block (200-278) which is also where I grounded my incoming coax. I then ran a 10 gauge solid ground cable from the other side of the ground block to my ground rod. Grounding is extremely important to not only protect against lightning strikes, but also to discharge static buildup and prevent damage to your TVs. The directions included were fairly basic, but it was very easy to setup and install nonetheless. We have many large mature trees in our neighborhood, and reception has not suffered a bit. I would highly recommend this product to anyone looking to purchase an outdoor OTA antenna. ... show more

  • Excellent reception, easy to install.
Style: 45 Mile Range Pattern Name: Antenna
I had been considering cutting the cord for several years. I consulted with antenna experts on a television discussion website that I wrote articles for. I wrote about technology and the film/TV market. The antenna guys lived and breather free over the air TV. What did I learn? Basically a larger antenna, placed as high as I could get it, aimed at the broadcast antennas works the best. Yes, there is a LOT of technical discussion and situations that can effect reception. Overall I knew I needed a VHT/UHF antenna mounted outside my house. There is no such thing as a "digital" or "HD" antenna. I had previously experimented with a small indoor antenna. It would pick up a couple of channels depending where I pointed it. If I turned it an inch or two I would lose those channels and pick up a different channel. Frustration! I tried another antenna in my attic. It worked slightly better but not much. For my location, about 50 miles north of Phila, I needed a good old fashioned antenna...the kind my grandparents used in the sixties. Getting to the point you want to know...did it work? Yes! I receive about 40 channels. I am able to get the major networks, two different PBS stations and sub-channels, retro TV stations, movie stations, etc, etc. A few channels are unreliable but nothing I need to have. I also pick up channels that are broadcast from the north, opposite from where the antenna is pointing. The HD channels are beautiful and stable. The digital surround sound is processed through my home theater. I am completely satisfied! Here is a tip. I had a satellite dish mounted to my house, up high. I removed the dish and mounted the antenna to the dish mounting pole. It works perfectly as a mount. If you don't have a similar mounting point, I would get the mounting kit. I used one of the existing satellite coax cables as my antenna feed since the coax was already wired into my house. You can use your cable TV cable coax the same way. What would I do next? I learned that you can use a second antenna, pointed in a different direction, to pull in more channels. The two antenna signals can be combined with an adapter (from Amazon) to a single coax cable. Consider this if you really want to get everything you can from the air. One final note. I have been told to avoid any kind of supplemental signal amplifier. The logic is the digital TV signal is either good or it is bad. You either get the channel or you don't. Amplifiers worked with old fashioned broadcast signals where you would get snow or ghosting. Check this out from an antenna manufacturer. "A mast or antenna-mounted amplifier (preamp) is used primarily to overcome the loss in the coaxial cable between the antenna and the TV set. In areas distant from TV transmitters, overcoming this loss is necessary since the signals are already weak. In areas close to TV transmitters, a preamplifier is usually not needed, and can actually cause problems as it may cause the signal levels to be too high." I would opt out of amplifiers and go for the larger antenna, mounted outside, as high as possible. May the signal be with you! ... show more
