  • Excellent beginner vise
Style: 4-Inch Bench Vise
This vise has been an awesome addition to my woodworking bench. I have recently taken up the hobby of woodworking and I needed some sort of vise. This vise has turned out very well for most of my woodworking needs. It is bench mounted so it will be up in the air and no flush with the bench. For woodworking this isn't exactly optimal for all things but it gets me by for a lot of sawing and chiseling operations. This vise is also great for things like holding firearms for gunsmithing or holding other items for various hobbies. The 4 inch opening seems like more than enough for most things. The vise will also rotate which is useful for some things. Installation was very easy for me. I set the vise up where I wanted it on the work bench and used a pencil to mark the hole areas on the bench. I then drilled out the holes to match the diameter of the vise holes. I then installed the vise using 3 bolts, washers, and nuts I bought from home depot for a few dollars. It has stayed secured now for a few months no problem. I also bought these jaw covers in order to grip things like wood without deforming it as much: Lisle 48100 Vice Jaw Pad Just remember, these pads will effectively lower the opening to under 4 inches. Pros: *Sturdy *Well machined for the price *Easy to install Cons: *None Additional Considerations: As I mentioned this vise is made to be mounted to the top of your workbench. So its not exactly optimal for all woodworking needs. It does great for a lot of things though. And it is especially good for things like holding firearms parts or other hobby tasks. If you want a nice woodworking vice you will probably want to check out a vise that is installed underneath the workbench and is level with the workbench. This allows more clamping operations on things. It also allows a more secure hold of something like a shooting board. Overall: 5/5 stars (>=.5 rounds up, <.5 rounds down) => 5 stars If you have any further questions regarding the product in my review please leave a comment below and I will get back to you as soon as possible. ... show more

  • Good medium duty vise.
Style: 4-Inch Bench Vise
Mine came clean and undamaged. Needed a smaller vise for my shop. I looked at several others that were cheaper, but while this vise is still made in China, Wiltons lifetime warranty made this one a no-brainer.

  • Very nice for the price.
Style: 4-Inch Bench Vise
The vise is small but works just fine for light work. Quality is good for the price, the jaws line up well. Purchased a set of magnetic soft jaws to go with it. Would be nicer if it had four mounting feet instead of three.

  • it seems like it will work OK
Style: 4-Inch Bench Vise
Just received this in the mail today and already mounted it to my work bench. So far, it seems to do it's job alright. It irritates me that the spring behind the handle makes a clicking/springy noise whenever you go to tighten or loosen the vise. Also, when I attempt to loosen the vise, sometimes it will get stuck and not move for a second before popping back into place. For the money, it seems like it will work OK. I wish it was a little better quality, though. Edit 9/14/16 - I am adding an extra star to the vice. It has held up very well so far through the limited use I have put it through. The sticking problem seems to have either corrected itself a bit, or I was being extremely picky. Now that I've used it, I don't seem to notice any sticking. ... show more

  • Good size and quality for a small workbench
Style: 4-Inch Bench Vise
I put this on a workbench I have in my service van. It's a really good size for a secondary vise. It is of the quality I expect from a Wilton. I run a bigger vise in my main workshop but for a small bench you may need for an outbuilding or such this is good buy.

Basic general purpose vise for light duty work. So far no problems.

  • Awesome medium-duty bench vise!
Style: 4-Inch Bench Vise
I have been using this vise regularly for the past 6 months and feel that I can now give an accurate review. Immediately upon building my workbench, I realized that the first addition needed was a bench vise. Realizing that I'm not a professional mechanic or tradesman, I wanted a smaller footprint and as high quality as I could find without spending too much money. Originally I was all set to get Grizzly's basic 4" bench vise. It has a large anvil face and has quite a bit of mass to it (almost twice the weight of the Wilton). I was just about to purchase the Grizzly when I discovered that Wilton had a buget-minded offering. The more I read, the more I was sold. I would have preferred 180 degrees of swivel, but the 120 degrees was much better than the Grizzly's 90 degree swivel. After 6 months of use, I can honestly say that the 120 degree swivel has not once been limited the effectiveness of this vise. Also, I REALLY liked the fact that the Wilton has a lifetime warranty. It's nice to know that a company with such quality products made in the USA still back up their low level imported products. Upon arrival, I unpackaged it, wiped it down, and mounted it to the front left corner of my workbench with three 3/8" lag bolts, which fit through the mount holes perfectly. It has performed flawlessly for all of the light and medium-duty tasks I've asked of it so far. I have yet to use it for anything truly heavy duty yet, and while I realize that this vise is not made for such tasks, I'll give it a shot when the time comes. I'll report back later. ... show more

  • Does it function is what is most important
Style: 4-Inch Bench Vise
It functions as expected and if I remember right it comes with a paper template for drilling mounting holes. I mounted this one on a corner of a portable welding table; well at least I call it a welding table. I have one inside the shop, but I needed one for some outside work and this one fit the bill. It isn't as large as the one indoors but it is a vice and it swivels so it works for what I had in mind. I have hammered on it and subjected it to heat and so far no issues. I did apply more grease lube on the screw than it arrived with. It is generally kept indoors when not in use and so far no rusting issues. ... show more
