I'm a home DIY guy. I'm 65. My whole life I suffered with little $80 vises. I said to myself if you don't get the a perfect vise now when will you. Well the time is now. I plunked down the $700 and waited for perfection to arrive. It's the best vise I ever owned but its not perfect. There are small defects that are irritating but none interfere with its suability, The thing is when you splurge for a $700 vise you expect perfection and this vise isn't perfect. That's why I give it 3 stars rather than 5. The jaws don't meet perfectly. They are about half a millimeter off. When opened beyond 7" or so I I feel resistance as the cantilever on the threads exerts force. There are some strange metal working remnants on the shaft. I blame these small defects on the crappy Chinese manufacturing. None the less I would buy it again and I do sleep a little easier knowing Chinese military equipment is most likely built to the same standards. ... show more

the 8" usa has thicker handle,so far thats all i can knock it for,if it can hold up to 1/2 the abuse as the 8in us modle (I GOT THE 10in)ill b happy

The end cap that keeps debris out was dented in and the handle to tighten and loosen the vise was bent,it’s still useable but disappointing after spending the amount of money on it to find out that if Wilton would spend 20$ building a wooden crate this vise would not be in this shape after shipping companies have thrown it around,I now have 2 Wilton vises and they are both good quality,it would just be nice if they didn’t cheap out at the very end ... show more

    • Heirloom quality that can take a literal beating.
Seems expensive until you see it in person, this is a massive vise that your great-grandchildren will fight over inheriting. Excellent clamping power, jaw width and depth that can hold anything I'd want in a vise, including other vises!

Heavy vice, but made in China! Beware not all Wiltons are made in the USA. disappointed with manufacturing location. Vice is heavy is seems to work ok. It is a massive vice for the price, so probably explains the origin.
