Description

The Tradesman round channel vise is designed to handle the most demanding clamping applications. Unlike most vises that have a fixed center nut The tradesman round channel vise nut is anchored at the rear which provides straight line pull and even pressure resulting in greater durability. The round channel design also allows for a completely enclosed spindle and nut assembly keeping debris out and lubrication in for a lifetime of smooth operation. For ultimate versatility, the tradesman vise is equipped with main jaws, pipe jaws and a machined anvil work surface.

As I had read in the reviews, we found little grease on the mechanism out of the box and a little sand from the casting, but it looks like a very stout vise which is what I need. Better to buy one good one than break a cheapo right off the bat.

Make sure you work bench can support this animal. it's heavy and sealed for life and in have no doubt it will outlast me. at 500 bucks it's a bargain

With a few negative reviews I was worried. For the price a good buy; jaws are hardened and reasonably flat - well aligned and fit exactly together; no issues other than a bent tommy bar from shipping but a 2# sledge and a thick slab of steel under the bend fixed the problem.

Taiwan makes decent tools and this wilton tradesman vise is every bit the quality vise it was when it was made in the USA. Sorry Made in the USA "only" folks but it just is. I fully recommend this tradesman vise but would not recommend Wilton's lessor vises like their made in china mechanics pro vise line. The made in china mechanics pro line vises have several flaws which lead to failure, the locking bar for the swivel is weak as is the vise screw which is drilled and pinned to retain it to the front jaw, these are known failure points for Wilton's made in china vises. Now if the good quality Made in Taiwan Tradesman vise is out of your reach price wise, I suggest two options. First option if you must have a Wilton? Buy a used Tradesman, CO line or Machinist line vise. Second, the made in China HF Doyle in 4 inch and 6 inch are also very good vises regardless of country of origin the 4 inch will set you back 150, the 6 inch just north of 200.On a side not the Made in the USA Wilton CO/Combination vises will cost you three times what their Tradesman vise will per given jaw size, made of grey cast iron and more than double the weight. a Made in the USA Wilton 6 inch CO/Combination vise weighs 200 pounds, gives you about 3 inches more jaw opening capacity but that increased weight, jaw capacity will set you back 2700 not 900. ... show more
