  • This WiiM Sub Pro is great with my WiiM Amp Ultra
The media could not be loaded. I consider this subwoofer a 5 star product IF you plan to pair it with other WiiM products. On it's own paired with other brand (non-WiiM) Hi-Fi equipment the lack of physical buttons/knobs to make adjustments in my opinion earns it only 3 or 4 stars. My first impressions out of the box (see video) is that for such a small subwoofer, the WiiM Sub Pro is built extremely well, is heavy, and innovative in its design. I'm not a fan of the high-gloss finish due to it being a dust and fingerprint magnet but this is a personal preference and does not effect the sound quality coming from the WiiM Amp Ultra. Overall this subwoofer was easy to setup with my WiiM Amp Ultra thanks to the WiiM application and WiiM's RoomFit Auto-Calibration. It literally is plug and play with the Sub Pro. While I did have some initial setup issues, WiiM has since provided some firmware updates and app improvements that has addressed some minor calibration issues that I experienced. In my setup, I connected the Sub Pro wirelessly to my Amp Ultra without any issue. Most of the functionality and fine tuning is done though the app once you have paired the subwoofer with the WiiM product. The room I placed this subwoofer has vaulted ceilings, is medium to large size, and past subwoofers purchased failed to provide quality bass in this room. The Sub Pro is my third subwoofer I've tried in this room but the FIRST one I'm actually happy to have in the room. In part, I think the better quality sound coming from this subwoofer is due to WiiM's room correction software and in part due to the downward firing woofer instead of on the side. I really can't believe how good of a presence the bass is coming from only an 8" inch woofer paired with my Klipsch RP-600M speakers. Not only does the subwoofer mix well for music, but it also adds to the TV watching experience. On a side note, given the smaller physical footprint of the Sub Pro it also doesn't physically overwhelm the visuals in my living room. Probably the only knock I have is the Sub Pro is this is one of WiiM's most expensive products. Personally, I wouldn't want to compromise on the sound quality with a lesser subwoofer just to save a few dollars. In other words, I do think the Sub Pro does offer value for the money if you have the money for it. I am of the opinion if you already using or plan to use WiiM's amps and streamers, the WiiM Sub Pro should be highly considered. If you already own another subwoofer, I would stick with that unless for some reason you're not happy with you current subwoofer. ... show more

  • How much do you love the looks and/or WiiM ecosystem?
Let's start with the looks: the finish on this is what I've always referred to as piano black. It's very glossy and quite beautiful. It's also something that will show dust or fingerprints. But it's undeniably something that's very modern and looks like a bit of art. It's also built like an absolute tank. I put it on the scale and it measured like 46 pounds. This thing is large and heavy. It's built like something you expect to still be running in 50 years. Will it? There are no physical controls. Maybe that's a decision for looks? Or manufacturing? But there's also no physical remote to change settings. So you're completely reliant on the app. This is not ideal for a whole host of reasons. It's very disappointing that you're tied exclusively to an app. Speaking of the app, it's needs quite a few privacy exceptions to work. More than I'd really like. It was more of a pain to connect than I would have preferred. So I kind of get back to the central question of the title. If you absolutely love the modern, piano black looks. Or are deeply embedded into the WiiM ecosystem, these probably aren't the biggest deal breakers. If you're not, however, it poses some questions. Yes, it has lots of power. And the sound quality is more than acceptable. But there are also other options that can give you this at a significantly cheaper price. And aren't reliant completely on an app to do so. It makes the decision to recommend a lot less clear. ... show more

  • Wonderful.
I have the Wiim Amp Ultra and some ELAC DB62 speakers. My Elacs do a fine job of reproducing music in the bass region down to about 70Hz but I thought I'd like to see what a subwoofer might do for my system. On well recorded Classical and Pop music, it works well, just filling in here and there in the very low frequencies to really "round out" the music. On less carefully mastered music where the extra bass is baked into the recording, like the LoFi and Chillhop that I listen to when I'm working, it requires toning down anywhere from -3db to -6db. This is easy to do with the Wiim Home app but that brings up a crucial point. This Sub has no external controls - not even volume control. It must be controlled through Wiim's app. That's fine for me because I'm already using the app to control my Wiim Amp/Streamer but if the Sub is the only Wiim equipment you own, I could see this being a hassle. Setting it up is easy. Plug it in and, optionally, plug in a coax cable (supplied) or use BT or WiFi. Then run the Room Calibration and you're good to go. I had to place mine in a bookshelf below the Elacs, which is not the best place for it, but the Room Calibration really compensated well. (I also used acoustic foam around and behind it to reduce any harmonic resonances from the bookshelf.) It is large and heavy (check the specs) so, once placed, you'll want to leave it alone. However, as with all Wiim equipment, it is solidly built and attractive. Its exterior is made of shiny black plastic like much HiFi and computer gear, so if you have more freedom to better place it, it will look fine. ... show more
