Description

The WE130 is our most versatile sharpener. It offers you the ability to clamp the widest variety of knife grinds, gives you the widest range of angles and the ability to adjust the angles independently. These features create a sharpening system with a highly controlled level of precision for the serious knife enthusiast. The WE130 Precision Sharpener includes our patented Generation 3 Cam-Lock Vise. This vise is ideal for accommodating a wide variety of knife grinds, including fully flat and hollow ground blades. The Split Jaw Design of the vise allows the jaws to flex so they can firmly grasp distally tapered blades, like many everyday-carry pocket knives and kitchen knives. It offers an expansive range of sharpening angles, allowing you to sharpen a wide assortment of blades, from 13 to 35 degrees per side. Blades with wider angles such as cleavers, bushcraft knives, and blades with chisel grinds, are all possible on this sharpener, as well as blades with low angles, like many Japanese knives and many knives made from modern super steels. The WE130 also provides independent angle adjustment, allowing you to sharpen asymmetrical grinds. For avid sharpeners, collectors and knife enthusiasts, the desire to retain the original design or a custom bevel on your knife is paramount to your passion for knives. This sharpener offers coarse angle adjustments in 1 degree increments and micro adjustments of .05 degrees, giving you the flexibility to match the original bevels of your knives without the need to modify the knife’s original grind or unnecessarily remove excess material. The included 10” Guide Rods will allow you to handle knives up to 15 inches in length and the vise has a maximum clamping capacity of 3/16” with an optional attachment (sold separately) for clamping knives with thicknesses up to 1/4". The WE130 Sharpener can be easily mounted to a home workstation or it can be mounted to any of the bases we offer, with the provided hardware.

  • WE Pro Pack 3. Does great.
I was nervous with buying the Pro Pack 3 because of the price, and some of the reviews which were older and of different models. I wanted the Gen 3 vice and some of the other options so I bit the bullet and ordered the Pro Pack 3. Glad I did. There is only one 'bad' that reflects any of the reviews I read: the thumb screws on the micro angle adjustments can become loose letting the ball joints work the screw out. Well, once I noticed that happening, I used a bit more tension on them and payed attention. No issue after that. Break it in! It talks about that in the manual and they are right. It took sharpening about 7 knives before I got the hang of it and the stones mellowed out. And use a light touch, again, follow the guidance in the manual. I have been obsessive about sharpening my knives for years. Cardboard wheels, belt solutions and even went back to free hand for my EDC knives with the super steels. This device took all the frustrations of sharpening away and made it relaxing again. That's it for the product review, now some thoughts/tips I have gathered through the years, and how the Wicked Edge made things easier. You can sharpen a knife to cut paper edges like butter or you can sharpen one to cut all the stuff you run into throughout the day. It may NOT be the same edge you put on both. One of my kitchen knives for slicing gets about a 13 degree angle and honed super smooth. With the WE I was able to keep the angle perfect to the end and for the first time, not only can it cut paper like butter, I can cut an S curve through it. Most of my EDC knives are super steels like S90V or 20SV. My tip for those? Toothy... These are work horses and need a durable cutting edge. I put a 17 degree primary bevel on, worked up through the diamond lapping film to get a smooth finish but don't stop there. I crank the angle out to 20 degrees and used the 1500 grit diamond stones very gently and upward stroked perpendicular to the blade. I use high magnification to review my work and you only need a few gentle strokes. Then back to 18 degrees to lightly finish off with the leather strops. Will it perform the paper edge cut trick? You bet. Not as good as my kitchen knife but this edge will cut through some nasty old rope like a serrated edge, and then will go back to cutting paper. ... show more

  • The screws (?) used to set the angle of the edge bevel come loose while you are sharpening!
Size: WE130
I was a bit disappointed with this product because one of the most important things you need to stay constant while sharpening does not work. That is, the screws used to set your major sharpening angle (edge bevel) and the screws used to lock in your micro adjustments (four screws in all, two on each side), all loosen as you are sharpening. I would be sitting there sharpening away when i noticed one or more of the screws had become loose even though I had tightened them very tight. Of course, the loosened screws mean your angle is no longer the one you set when you started to sharpen, and if you did not notice it soon enough your edge bevel is sure to be off. The screws backing out has happened with every knife I have sharpened. It occurs so often that I stop every thirty or so strokes of the abrasive to check every screw to make sure they are still tight. To me, that is like having to stop every three or four miles to check and see if the lugs that hold your wheels onto your car are still tight! I believe this to be a design flaw that should have been addressed a long time ago. I checked the wicked edge website's knowledge base & forum and found instances of this problem being discussed years ago. Some of the members of the forum offer a couple of work-arounds, but there seems to be no permanent solution put forth by wicked edged usa. I feel like if I had known this before I purchased the WE 130, I might have purchased a different sharpener. I don't believe it should be up to the buyer to find a solution to a manufacturer's design flaw. I further believe a buyer should know about this flaw before purchasing this very expensive knife sharpener, therefore this review. The sharpener does puts a wicked edge on the knives, if you don't mind the hassle of constantly checking to see if the parts that determine what angle your blade is being sharpened at have come loose. One further caveat. If your blade is double-edged it is extremely difficult to clamp it into the vise. As you tighten the vise jaws, the pressure on the "V" shape of the lower half of the blade tends to force the blade up and out of the vise, much like if you squish an apple seed between your fingers and it flies out from between your finger and thumb. Trying to use doubled sided tape, chamois, or just plain painter's tape to give the vise something to grab onto, does not seem to work for me, and the work-arounds some people on the forum give are hit - or - miss at best. Just a couple of things a prospective buyer might want to know before laying out a large sum for this knife sharpener. ... show more

  • Best available on the market today
Size: WE130
This is simply the best sharpener made. It is extremely precise, even micro adjustable. This allows you to get an absolute perfect bevel and that same precise angle everytime. They give you all the info on how to use it and also a chart to note your settings for each knife you own. My only complaint is that you need to order the 800/1000 and higher grit stones and strops separately if you want to get those mirror bevels on your blades. ... show more

  • The 800/1000 diamond grit is needed with the kit.
Size: WE130
I had to mount the kit to a thick board and recess the screw mounts. It works well but will take lots of work to pay for it. It is borderline too expensive. Really got to have a need... Does not do volume work.
