This is perfect! I'm using it more as a stepstool in the kitchen, but I'm sure it will get used when I paint the living room. My house has 9ft ceilings; my kitchen cabinets go all the way to the ceiling, and my old two-step stepstool just didn't do the job. Since I got this, I've cleaned the top shelves in all the cabinets for the first time in the 16 years I've lived in this house. I love it. And it's easy to store. I put a couple of hooks in the wall just outside the door into my attached garage. It's easy to move around, doesn't weigh that much, and I have no trouble with it, and I'm 71... another reason the hand rails are great. I feel much more secure on it than I ever did on an ordinary ladder.

STRAIGHT SCOOP ON THESE STEP STOOLS. I bought the Black version (either get the 3 or 4 step - they are basically the same style) because of the bad reviews on steps/rivets breaking on the white version. I thought the color was the only difference but they are also made differently. Look closely at the pictures and you will see that the white version is built using spacers and rivets to hold the steps which have been breaking under minimum use. The black version is built using a rigid bar between the main legs and the step is supported by that bar - NOT Rivets at the front. This make for a much stronger assembly. Also the safety catch on the white step stool is a flimsy piece of plastic and the black step stool uses a solid bar all the way across and the top step snaps onto this bar. The tool platform is an added bonus and folds up out of the way when not in use. OVERALL THE BLACK VERSION IS A MUCH BETTER DESIGN.
