I purchased this lock to compare Remote Access/WiFi smart locks. I have a Yale Assure, Schalge Encode and this lock. The Yale is a smooth operating lock with decent battery life but with very poor WiFi connectivity reliability. The Schlage is a good look, smooth operation, and has good Wifi connectivity and reliability but the battery life is about 3 weeks. This Hornbill lock so far has had great battery life, great WiFi connectivity reliability, and decent/smooth operation (the motorized retraction is a bit lax, not retracting the bolt lock always fully, but so far enough to not cause a door interference problem. This smart door lock works as described. I replace my old door lock, and give it a code. You can keep it unlocked or locked from my phone. You can change your pass code. It will automatically lock if you choose it to. It has a long battery life and a back up key. All and all it's a great device. I do everything from my phone, one day stop working after one year, I call customer service and they transfer me to support, I was lucky enough that Nancy take my issue, she fixed the problem, not only that she got in touch with us few times after to made sure that everything still working, ... show more

Updated to say that customer service shipped me a new lock. They are very responsive and helpful. The new lock seems to be working without issue. Assuming there are no issues with the new lock, I do recommend this lock. Being able to give temporary codes is very helpful and I love that if I'm laying in bed and can't remember if I locked the door I can either ask Alexa to do it, or I can look in my phone app. I would have given this 5 stars. It was working great. Love the ease of the app and full integration with Alexa. Love that you can do temporary codes. No issues installing, it replaced a schlage key pad lock. I haven't had any issues until tonight. Got home, entered my code and heard it unlock, but I couldn't open my door! Tried 3 times before I got my manual key out - thankfully I had one on me. Tested it and it's only retracting 3/4 of the way. Today is the first day we've had freezing weather, so not sure if they is affecting it. But WI will get much colder than this. So if it is the weather that's very disappointing. I reset the lock by removing a battery the holding the button and it's still doing it. It fully comes out to lock, but then only retracts 3/4 when using the codes or app. It works just fine manually. Really disappointed and wish I could figure out why it stopped working.     • Lock deadbolt failed. No response from customer service.

Easy to install and use. After about 1 month of use, the deadbolt began to fail to retract. Numerous Emails to customer support have gone unanswered. Phone line for customer support never has a live operator and messages are not returned. I liked the product when it worked. But very poor customer service if it doesn't work. Follow-up: Customer support finally did respond and in numbers (3 different support operators). They gave me a new lock and it is working great. I've had this lock for almost 2 years now and when a neighbor asked about it I figured i might as well write a review- Has the same feature set as much more expensive locks- you can set temporary codes, lock and unlock remotely (if you set up the included gateway), and it has seamless integration on Google home ( I have it set to auto-lock at 11pm every night if it's unlocked). Do be sure to lubricate the lock occasionally (had to do it once) so the key works without friction. The lock cylinder/key design is much more pick resistant than usual locks- so the keys are not easily Copy-able, beware loosing them. I'd also recommend a set of 6 rechargeable AA batteries, as you'll have to cycle them every 6 months to a year depending on usage (normal for smart locks) Overall- I'd buy again. ... show more
