If I close a door so that it works in the space it is created for, it cools it way down quickly. It is noisy, but I just used a fan while sleeping after I lowered the room temp.     • My bedroom changed from the hottest room to the coldest room
It's a basic AC, that I picked up for it's small size but high enough output for my bedroom/office. It puts out colder air than my 10,000 BTU Honeywell that is much larger. Noise: I shut if off during work meetings. While I do wish the unit was a bit quieter, the white noise actually helps me sleep better. My apartment has two truck bays next door with 2am and 4am deliveries. Even when it's not hot weather, I run this as a fan at night for this reason. Installation: Straightforward. I like that the kit included some weather stripping to seal the window. Because my window is narrower than the smallest setting for the window adapter strip, I had to cut it to fit into my window, which will be the trickiest part if you're working without the correct power tools (a chop saw is ideal for this part). I drilled a few holes in it with my powerdrill and used pressure to snap off the length I needed to remove. Reliability: I did have a problem that sounds very similar to what some other reviewers had mentioned - where there were cricket sounds, display flickering, and random shutting off. I contacted Whynter support and they directed me to the electrical connection for the display. I'm handy enough to be able to do this myself without much instruction. I disconnected and reconnected the display cable and haven't had problems since. If you're having problems, contact the manufacturer. I got a quick response. ... show more

This is a very powerful little unit. It blows ice cold immediately. I’ve had it running about a week now and have had no issues. Installation was incredibly simple. Only you may need additional weather strip or foam to seal off the window. Also don’t put the sticky backed strip on anything you don’t want it to stay because I had a heck of a time trying to move it to readjust. The remote is very simple to operate and change the settings with. Hand to have in the middle of the night. The sleep setting is great option as well and is more than just a sleep timer. Be sure to read up on that. The unit is for 215 sq ft. I’d say my room is about 300-325 and I could have used a bit of a larger unit probably. But for us, we only need it to cool the main area and that it does well. I have it actually sitting up on an end table and that made a big difference in getting it off the floor. The box is quite heavy so make sure there is available help for getting this up stairs or anything like that. ... show more

    • This AC SAVED MY LIFE!
I swear, I was being BOILED ALIVE in my apartment! It was SWELTERING, and my medication puts me at high risk of heat stroke. This AC cooled down my apartment in less than 10 minutes! We placed it in our living room, facing outwards so that it reaches the dining room, kitchen, and foyer. This bad boy is so efficient, we can feel all the way in the bedroom — sometimes I wake up with my teeth chattering, hahaha. I put a 5-gal bucket with wheels next to our AC with a plastic tube to drain in to. At first, it only needed to be drained twice in one week. As the weather got hotter (and more humid), we've had to drain it a bit more often; about once every day or two. Not bad at all, I HIGLY, HIGHLY recommend this AC! ... show more

    • Hard as heck to clean
To begin with if you have pets or a dusty room you'll be disappointed to know this thing attracts dust like no other , nothing.new you would think, however the bottom half of the thing doesn't have a filter so dust and hair just accumulate behind it which might causing a major fire hazard bot to mention how tedious it is to have to pry the entire thing open once a month to clean it out. Second selecting the constant fan option resets everytime you turn it off so you constantly have to reenable it if you wanted to always have it on which is honestly ridiculous that it doesn't just remember the fact you have it on. Third the front has a small tiny blade to "redirect" air flow left or right which may as well not even be there for how useful it is It's only positive point would be that ir at least works and cools the room enough I guess ... show more

The Whynter Compact AC unit is a very good conditioner for a smaller bedroom. It is quiet enough for undisturbed sleeping, and the room is a very comfortable temperature. The fan is limited to two speeds , and it does not thrust the cold air a great distance. The use of a common house fan ads to this . I do recommend this AC unit , and it is well built. ... show more
