Our active, not overweight 10-year-old male cat had begun puking every night. We had been feeding him major-brand dry cat food (Purina, etc.) in addition to wet food (Nine Lives, Friskies, etc.). Reading up on solutions, we found that grain-free dry cat food was recommended. We found this brand -- more expensive than general supermarket brands, but hey, we love our cat -- and the puking basically went away. This food is so dry it's like kindling. My cats hate it. I have to add some water to it to even get them to eat any of it then they just leave it after a few bites. Terrible.
