Hello I just want to write a review for this AC unit I have to say I am thoroughly impressed make a long story short we have a double wide it's a few years old and it does have central air and heat we live in Florida our electric bill was constantly running in the $400 range per month and the unit behind the house was probably 15 years old I'm guessing and it was working its tail off to keep the house cool I work outside so when I get home I wanted to be 73° in the house or under so I bought this unit a couple of months ago I wanted to wait to give a good review our house is probably 900sq ft no it's not huge but it's big enough for me and my wife two bedroom two bath this unit keeps our house ice cold all day and night and it shuts off several times during the day so it's way more efficient than our central air we just got our electric bill yesterday it went from $400 a month to $162 this month I would absolutely thoroughly recommend this unit it doesn't have all the bells and whistles like some of the other ones but I don't care about that all I care about is our house being cool if I'm sweating at night I can't sleep... so absolutely is a phenomenal unit it is also fairly quiet inside best bang for the buck ... show more

AC would not work. All instructions followed, conditions for operation are optimal. No issues that would keep the unit from operating correctly. Unit will not run properly. I called Whirlpool for help. They tried to trouble shoot with no success. They told me to contact Amazon for more trouble shooting. 🤔 Amazon could only offer refund options. I need to box up the unit, haul it to an ups store and ship it back. Home pick won’t work because someone needs to be home. I’m done with Amazon. I’ll order my dog food and vitamins but I’ll never purchase a “large” item from them again. Walmart/Costco/Lowes/Menards… YOU HAVE MY BUSINESS!! ... show more

    • Packaging insures Great Performance
I believe one thing that makes this air conditioner as great as it is, is the unique packaging it came in. Electronic equipment and compressors are not designed to be mishandled, dropped, etc and it's a treat to see the way this was packaged. You have your regular outer box done by the manufacturer , typical straps heavy gauge box with inner styrofoam and then, there's this inner box much more durable than the outer! It's so nice to see this very effective machine in absolute perfect condition. Over the years I have had Frigidaire, LG, and GE but this is my first Whirlpool and it does exactly what it advertises. Very cold air, extremely powerful fan on high yet quiet even on high, true Energy Star based upon a watt meter, simple and easy to install, looks good even for a window unit. great remote with very good range and easy to learn controls, quality materials and well designed components. One thing that sets this apart from other window units is that the two vents at the top that dispense the cold air are independent of one another and a feature I like. One vent can be going straight out at a higher angle while the other vent can be going into a totally different direction and lower or higher. And the led control panel that lights up can be turned off with the remote if it bothers you. The installation instructions are excellent yet somewhat confusing in that some reviewers have stated that this has a "slide out box" but this unit doesn't and the 15,000 BTU model and up do have a slide out which makes installation easier for the more heavy units. This one, when finally taken out of all the wonderful packaging, takes approximately 5 minutes to prepare for then two people to place it in a window. Then it provides all types of hardware to properly secure it in a window. It even comes with the insulated fiberboard to place on the two sides as the slide out sides do not offer much as fas as insulation. I do recommend purchasing "closed cell foam" rolls to fill in any gaps and better seal out the weather and perhaps bugs. Amazon has most any type of weatherproof insulation imaginable for your particular unit. After having other air conditioners shipped and see all the damage to the exterior of the units, I wonder what has been damaged on the inside that I can't readily see.And I wonder how much performance I'm losing because of possible inner damage. I truly believe when one is packaged as this one is, then it seems that it will have a longer life and will always perform is it advertises. ... show more

    • Cools 800 sq. feet easy
I hadn't purchased a window A/C unit prior to this so I didn't really know what I was looking for when I perused Amazon. The first thing that they all mention is the size the of area that the A/C unit will cover. There are calculators online that account for ceiling height and area of the rooms. Ultimately, I went with this 12,000 BTU model and chose whirlpool because I was at least familiar with the name. I had been concerned on many of the reviews that the units were arriving damaged or the radiator fins severely bent. That was not the case for mine. It did show up with a very small corner dent but no evidence that the unit had been opened prior. I imagine that it just got a little roughed up in transit since the thing weighs as much as a small car. That's another thing to keep in mind, as you go higher with BTU on these a/c units the weight will increase. Luckily, once it's in place the weight really doesn't matter. Overall, it's a very solid unit that was relatively easy to set up. I don't think that window A/C units ever set up that elegantly though since there is always some finessing with extra foam or duct tape to get a proper seal. The A/C unit isn't quiet but it also isn't a jet engine in the room. Living in the city, I appreciate the white noise at night. ... show more
