The description says this is a "flannel" blanket, but I think most people would think of it as a lightweight fleece material, very soft and almost plush. My experience with shedding is similar to another reviewer's: I have not noticed any shed from this blanket, as I washed it following the instructions (cold water, low dryer temp). This is used as a second blanket on our bed. It is a light weight blanket as described. Nice pattern and very soft. It fits a queen size bed very well. It is not skimpy as is sometime the case. I would recommend.
