  • Quality piece of equipment, well made, worth the little bit extra on the cost !!!
Size: 7 lbs Capacity Color: Silver
I might still be a novice and in a learning process when it comes to making awesome sausage, but when it comes to quality products, I can spot them a mile away and this is one quality piece of machinery !!! First, the reason I decided to purchase this particular model over a couple of other brands I was looking at was not only that this one came with stainless steel tubes, but that the shipping weight was nearly twice the weight of the other ones that were made for the same amount of meat. That kind of told me that it would probably hold still better on my counter top when using it and not wobble or want to crawl away while in use because it was a good deal heavier than the others. Second, I liked that it has two speeds and that the gears are in an enclosed housing. This was important to me because after doing some research on vertical stuffers, most will require using lubricants ( usually food grade silicone or grease ) after cleaning, and I figured that since the gears were in an enclosed housing, this could dramatically reduce any chances of any lubricants contaminating the meat in the canister that may or may not come off of the gears during the cranking process. Just my own theory, and I know that food grade silicons and the likes are supposedly harmless when ingested in small amounts, but they still contain aerosols and some lubricants are petroleum products. I just thought that this kind of separated it from the pack that I was considering. When I opened the box an unpacked it, it was already assembled and my first thought was this was something that one would find at a professional butcher shop or meat processing plant or some type of commercial operation. My second thought was that I made a wise decision in choosing this piece of equipment and that for the price, I really feel that I got a great deal and had spent my hard earned money wisely !!! Every heavy duty nut and bolt includes a flat washer and split lock washer, the base is heavy and extremely sturdy, the rubber feat are a nice touch and the frame is made of quality heavy gauge steel, the finish is very nice ( hell, I even like the Tennessee Orange color and I'm an LSU fan !!!!!! ) If only they made it in Purple & Gold it would then be the perfect machine !!! The cranking is very smooth and fluent, the speed difference between the two speeds is very noticeable, the plunger and shaft are all high quality metal and once again, I won't have any concerns lubricating the shaft since it passes through the enclosed housing. The plunger seal is a really heavy duty gasket that is easy to remove and clean and is probably the only part of this machine that is not metal besides the grip on the handle !!! The canister, ring nut, and all hardware seem to be made of quality material and are all very well made. Everything breaks apart easily for cleaning and lubricating and when I go on the manufacturers web site, parts and accessories seem real easy to find should I ever need anything. In reality, these are simple machines, not a lot of complexity as to how they operate, but you really do appreciate the design and quality of this particular one. Like I said, I am still in a learning stage when it comes to actually making great sausage and I don't want to take anything away from any of the other brands because I really don't know anything about them and they each had very positive reviews and for all I know, they are also quality machines, But I do know this, one of the other brands I was considering was about $30.00 cheaper than this one, and I can only say that I'm glad I spent the extra 30 bucks and feel it was well worth it !! Got a great Cajun Boudin recipe, and an awesome Cajun Green Onion recipe that I'll be using this weekend & putting some serious meat through it and I can't wait, I know it will be better than the Cabela's Grinder/Stuffer that I have been using !!! Bon Appetit & Laissez Les Bons Temps Rouler !!!!!! ... show more

  • Great product
Size: 7 lbs Capacity Color: Silver
This press works extremely well & it compacts the sausage perfectly into the casings. This press is a bit heavy & still needs to be held/supported while cranking, but that's typical. 1 person can operate this press while holding the casing but is much easier with 2 people. 2 complaints: I'd wish it was a 10lb capacity versus 7lbs b/c most sausage kits are measured out for 10lbs of meat. Also, I personally never found a great way to remove that final bit of meat out of the bottom of the tube without having to push a spoon or something. Besides those 2 "issues" that aren't a big deal, I would highly recommend this product. ... show more

  • Good first foray into stuffing
Size: 7 lbs Capacity Color: Silver
Pros: No clamping needed, easy to use and reload. nice long horns/tubes, no nylon gears Cons: welding, polishing of Stainless Steel looks a bit sloppy. Amazon Prime Day 2015 was my purchase date. I had been searching for a stuffer for a few weeks, but waited until this date to see if there were any great deals. Weston 86-0701-W Manual Vertical Sausage Stuffer, 7-Pound There weren't any great deals. I did see this unit Weston 86-0701-W Manual Vertical Sausage Stuffer, 7-Pound at Amazon for $149.99. I liked the idea of getting something a bit bigger than a 5# model, since most of batches are 5#, I wanted to make sure I was never filling twice. Since then I have had a few 12# batches, oh well ;-) First unit that arrived - The first unit that arrived turned out to be a refurbished one. it had nicks and scratches, but worked fine. I only figured it out when I went to register the product and it had a sticker on the warranty card saying it was a refurbished unit. I have bought things from Amazon before that are clearly noted as returns or refurbs. They carry the same Amazon warranties, so I have had good luck with them. But you are told right up front, that the discounted price is due to its condition. On this particular purchase there was no warning. I used it heavily that weekend and then promptly returned it. I felt slighted and cheated - bait and switch. Second Unit - I then reordered the same unit from Amazon, 10 days later, same price. This one arrived brand spanking new. Full warranty etc. I have used it now 6 times for about 75# of meat.I have made sticks, sausages and even some 1 1/2" summer sausages. The unit works fine. I have tried some one man stuffing, but the wife is a willing participant and it goes quicker with two. Could you use it alone? Yes, but you might want to clamp it down then, it tends to slip just a bit. Cranking is not too hard, but I am a big guy. I think my wife has cranked it a bit, but would not last with 20# in one day. Clean up is rather easy. Negatives - there is an pressure release spring and cap on the plunger/pusher. It is fastened with a slip washer/pin (proper name?) that is a pain to get on and off. It must come on and off for good cleaning, but I risk gauging my fingers each time I take it on or off. The first couple of times we used it, we had one point about 2/3 way down the hpper/bin when cranking got really hard, after a few uses we realized that one of the gear teeth from inside the cabinet had broken a bit off and was stuck in the plunger's teeth. when i removed that, the cranking issue disappeared. However, there are a couple pieces of teeth that I can hear rattling about in the gear box now. Still works fine, but I made sure to get my warranty in on time. (Why no online registration Weston?). Yes, it does leave a big of meat in the bend and horn/stuffing tube. We have tried adding bread to the hopper to push that through, but have ultimately just used the last meat as little patties and fried them up as a reward for the stuffing work. Yes, I would recommend this project. ... show more

  • Worth it!
Size: 7 lbs Capacity Color: Silver
We use this to fill our bags with ground meat. Very easy to use and saves a lot of time not having to wrap instead.
